Does anyone have any insight into the system of Ana Cortez ? It is radically different from other Playing Card reading systems I hear, but nothing either Pro or Con. There are courses on her website and such but I am looking more for the “between we Reader’s info” rather than the Creator’s. Not looking to high praise or rip the system, just again any insight you may have.

I keep going back to KittenChops' website to look at it and sigh. Today, I saw that the artist is considering bringing back this deck. She asks people who would be interested in buying it to give her feedback, subscribe to her newsletter and give her an idea of how many decks to print. I did so immediately, and if you are interested, maybe you wish to do the same? It's a unique deck, done in watercolours, and it's wonderful to see a deck without AI.

Her Marseilles-based Pipspeak Tarot looks wonderful as well.

Her style reminds me of the children's book illustrations of my childhood, like the Happy Lion.

More associations and memories from my German childhood come up: the Onkel Tobi books my brother used to love,

the lovely, wistful Schornebog's Forest. Memories...

I'm sure you'll have your own associations. This seems to be a great deck to work with your inner child, but it also looks layered, complex and with lots of emotional depth behind the whimsical scenes and smiling faces. It is also a Real Tarot, as far as I can judge from the images: it looks readable, and the cards are true to the tarot archetypes.

There are so many cutesy "artificial" decks floating around right now, so much AI, and so many "copies of copies". I hope KittenChops will get the support she needs, re-print her deck, and even if the shipping kills me, I'll buy it.

Question about Card Meanings/Description Sources

https://www.thetarotforum.com/forums/topic/18089-question-about-card-meaningsdescription-sources/?do=findComment&comment=307038

I think that this is an excellent way to learn Tarot. Many decks are based on this deck; it has become a kind of prototype, especially but not only in the English-speaking world. Obviously, if you work with a deck from another tradition, Bunnings won't be enough.

Even if you stay in the RWS sphere, you'll notice that each artist who re-interprets the RWS has a different take on the cards. The LWB accompanying the deck can show you where the artist came from and what was important to them. This is especially true when the artist who made the cards also wrote the book. However, companies like Lo Scarabeo often produce generic booklets, as mentioned above, which won't help you very much.

However, the cards are always more important than the text that comes with it. As others have said, keeping track of your readings and writing down your own interpretations of the cards is very important. It also allows you to re-visit the cards later and understand them better. You can write a journal - make it as beautiful or as simple as you like. You can also use a digital notebook (Scrivener, Evernote, UpNote, OneNote... there are so many possibilities).

I would always recommend looking at the cards first, how they relate to each other, whether there are recurring symbols, whether there is a connection between them (e.g. figures in adjacent cards looking at each other or turning their backs to each other), whether there is a flow in the reading or blockage. You might wish to consider the elemental or astrological associations as well if you know them. Keep zooming in and out. Look at the whole, then at each card, then at the details in each card, and then at the whole again.

Only when you have written down what you could see, open the book. Otherwise, the written words will drown out your own intuition. Trust your intuition. When your mind is busy with financial problems, a card interpretation that focuses on love issues or symbolism won't help you. But the cards always give an answer, trust them and trust yourself. Your personal answer won't be found in a book anyway.

Tarot is a language, and learning it is like learning a language. When you start, you need a dictionary, and your vocabulary is limited. Once you feel more secure, you may work with a thesaurus that helps you understand the nuances of each word. And like a language learner, you start with words. Only later, you'll be able to make your own sentences. It's a natural process, it's not linear, and it's fun.

Question about Card Meanings/Description Sources

https://www.thetarotforum.com/forums/topic/18089-question-about-card-meaningsdescription-sources/?do=findComment&comment=307028

There are many different descriptions of the possible meanings of each card. There are thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of Tarot books, websites, courses, etc. and each one will have either drastically or slightly different versions. I suggest starting with learning the traditional meanings from a highly respected and trusted teacher, such as Rachel Pollock, The Tarot Lady ( blanking on her name right now), Benebell Wen (I highly recommend her book Holistic Tarot), etc.

Then, incorporate your intuition with the memorized meanings when doing spreads. Additionally, the same card can have 5 different meanings during 5 different readings for 5 different people because the circumstances will be different each time. I definitely recommend keeping a tarot journal and journaling your first impressions, intuitive thoughts, etc. and recording each reading you do for yourself and others. Many people draw a card of the day and study it, meditate on it, etc.

Unboxings and First Impressions

https://www.thetarotforum.com/forums/topic/4232-unboxings-and-first-impressions/?do=findComment&comment=307025

I just got this deck and LOVE IT.

The wheelchair in this card reminds me of hospital policies that require those who are discharged to be wheeled out to the car that picks the patient up. Though they do it mostly to limit liability, the staff also knows the body can be weak and wobbly from a hospital stay. Yet in the Four of Swords, the body is not what is incapacitated but the mind; it is the part of us that desperately needs a break. It's time to take a mental health day - go for a walk, feel the breeze, listen to bird song, and enjoy the flowers making their debut. The Home card suggests a sanctuary that can offer support. As Maya Angelou said, "Home is a refuge not only from the world, but a refuge from my worries, my troubles, my concerns." However, don't let your mind lure you into worrying about what needs to be cleaned or fixed!

Unable to register and sign up

https://www.thetarotforum.com/forums/topic/18140-unable-to-register-and-sign-up/?do=findComment&comment=306977

Hey there!

Work got in the way of tarot, so I’m going to immediate repeat Tarot of the Unexplained this week. How about a new interview, because why not?

What is your most important characteristic? Ace of Ghosts

The deck points to the truth through whimsy.

What is your strength? Fan of Knockers

The deck isn’t an easy read, but if you engage with it actively, it works.

	Your weakness? 9 of Portals

But that emotional connection can be very personal and hard to relate to anyone else.

What can you teach me? La Llorona

Interesting choice for Empress! The deck can teach me about the physical manifestation of out-there ideas.

How can I learn it? 2 Portals

By going with the deck and connecting with it on its own terms.

What will be the outcome of our work together? 10 of Ghosts

Maybe she’s releasing ghosts? Using a cauldron even though her book is about candles?

I will engage with the deck, but will eventually let it go.

Like getting beginners to use it as soon as they had a basic learning of the cards and there used to be beginners posting on forums and tarot communities stuck on it. It's not a beginners level exercise, it's a much better idea to start with smaller spreads. It takes time and effort to work on it, It was a very rigid idea that this was "the traditional spread" and you use it or all readings. Since 2010, tarot has changed and opened up. There has been a bit of a backlash to the spread since around the 2010's with a lot of younger readers ignoring it entirely. It's interesting to watch it play out, but it became deeply unfashionable. Many tarot folk find it quite heavy and I think that's a great description of it.

I was one of those people, I remember the tradition of it in my early tarot studying and I really turned against it. However if you never use it, it's worth reading with it every so often, it has good positions and if you always use it, you should try other spreads and freestyle readings. Shake it up a bit. The thing about the Celtic Cross is that it's an in-depth spread for a complex situation or question. A lot of people use it for a daily reading or general reading and it doesn't fit that too well. So I am of the belief that every spread or no spread has it's place! You just have to use it in the right reading 🙂 .
