Baba Studio moving away from tarot

Their decision to leave the world of tarot was made and announced quite some time ago, and they said they would focus on fashion and textiles instead. Their issues with piracy go way back. I ask everyone that we please don’t go off track to start discussing whatever drama has been going on on Facebook or on other platforms. We don’t need to speculate or throw dirt at anyone. This thread is about them leaving the tarot industry and I think it can be a good place for people to process this and to update others on what this means in regards to specific decks etc. Let’s keep it nice!

Ah, yes, I was wondering and thought about this (actually this wasn't really difficult to deduce 😁), or jewelry too maybe, but working with textiles would be more obvious for them since they already began to work with them.

For my part I'm glad that the Fantastic Menagerie Tarot is going to be released, and next the Bohemian Fortune Telling cards that I look forward to! 💜

I’m so happy the fantastic menagerie made the cut as one of their final deck projects. I’m sure those fortune telling cards will be awesome too!

Yes. And sometimes they sell antiques, and offer tours...lots of irons in the fire.

I think piracy is going to get worse. After all, COVID must be putting a huge dent in the mob's usual money-laundering standbys like casinos and call girls. They'll ramp up the pirating. As already mentioned, we'll be losing more artists to this, the major ones. I understand that some authors who used to make a comfortable living are doing very poorly, as well. Music and a lot of other things will be affected too, of course.

And at one time in living memory, it was hard to find a Tarot deck at all. Then the market exploded over the last few decades, it got too big, too fast. Like a bubble that's doomed to pop, it's not sustainable. It's a gold rush mentality. So the market could change in ways we haven't even thought of yet. There may be much to be said for a graceful and timely exit.

Like the movie says, "Things change, Kundun." *snaps fingers*

I think Norman Vincent Peale left some stuff out.

Ah, you mean the burning and melting bit.

There's always the bespoke route. Like Roxanne Flornoy's hand coloured Marseille decks. Expensive, though.

Otherwise, taking inspiration from how artists in other disciplines (authors, musicians, illustrators etc.) have adapted (or are trying to) could be a solution.

As for Baba leaving Tarot, well, maybe it's also partly boredom, needing something new.  That said, I do feel the lady has gotten some unfair stick recently.

I was awaiting with bated breath their “Ireland Through Bohemian Eyes” project, which was to have included a Tarot deck.

Although I see the project was put on hold in 2019, as being too time consuming.😕
