Kay Steventon's Spiral Tarot

I absolutely love the Spiral tarot but am wondering if anyone knows if Kay Steventon is still in the community and if the deck can make a comeback without borders and full size?

I would buy it in a minute. I keep it in my travel altar kit trimmed.

Please, I'm calling out to US Games to re-release as a full size borderless deck.

What do you think about this absolutely gorgeous deck?

What a delight to find my favorite deck getting a mention. And this synchronicity is really giving me goosebumps because thismorning, with a life question nagging at me, I took my old friend out of its bag and as I shuffled, noticed the publisher and wondered about contacting them for a larger, borderless (or at least trimabble-sized) deck...

I did do some searching for Kay Steventon some time ago and I think I found evidence of her having a fairly recent art exhibition on Facebook, though I don't know anything further.

I love this deck so much - I do need another copy. I love the painterliness of the art, the brushstrokes and textures showing the artist's hand at work. Kay's drawing skills are solid and the figures are generally well proportioned and well observed, but without stiffness or being preciously 'photorealistic' and I always feel like there are subtle fine art references but without the overtness of a collage deck.  She stays true to the traditional imagery such that I always find it easy to read.

I have Kay's Celestial Tarot as well, but it's largely unused, as I'm not across astrology and generally find it much harder to read. I think the artwork, while lovely, hasn't quite survived being shrunk down to card size as well as the Spiral did. It's perhaps another one that would benefit from a larger borderless edition.

How I wish publishers did print-on-demand!

After posting about the Spiral tarot here, I went to US Games and asked them to consider it. Maybe if enough of us do this they'll do it. 😃

in all my years I've not seen Steventon post on forums, which is true of many artists/authors of decks. Maybe because people can be so mean. If I remember correctly she is Australian and was more heavily involved in astrology than tarot, but I haven't looked her up in a long time. I did trim the purple borders off mine, it was much improved.

I'll do so too. I don't expect much success, but gosh, how wonderful if they did. I know it's a very crowded market these days, and I wonder if they'd be looking for artists who have more active public profiles, youtubers and so on. It's a pity, as honestly, all that stuff can be so toxic for artists, and even if it stays positive, it absorbs so much mental time and effort it can really harm creativity.

I can 100% see why someone who creates a deck might not want to be involved in the 'community' even if they were a keen reader, anyway - like any reader for that matter - for a lot of people it's really not something they want to get into lots of discussions about.

To me the Spiral is really such a beautiful deck, it's truly a classic. Some of the cards are really small masterworks, and it entirely deserves more attention.

It certainly deserved more attention from a proofreader!

I had never heard of this deck so I googled it and look at two of the cards I found.

Not in my deck. Not sure what the deal is there. What is the publication year on that one?

Oh My goodness, you have a very special deck there. LOL

I have a proper 4 of wands.

It's something to look out for if another old deck is purchased.
