v_quixotic Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 I’ve just noticed that the Queen of this suit is actually labelled ‘Reyne de Baston’ which I think makes her Queen of the fight. I can’t imagine this is a misprint given Dr Ben-Dov’s care in recreating the Conver deck, so I’m wondering what the significance is?
DanielJUK Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Hi @v_quixotic I've moved your thread into the forum's TdM section as it fits better there as a specific enquiry about the Reyne 🙂
gregory Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 His book doesn't mention it, so I don''t think it has any real significance. As is stated in this old AT thread: https://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=57494 Quote In modern-day French, bâton is spelled with a circumflex over the "a". The circumflex replaces an "s". Thus bâton corresponds to baston. When words with accents are written in all-caps, the accents are often dropped: BATON, instead of BÂTON. There's another deck where the Valet ends up as Baston http://www.tarot-de-marseille-millennium.com/english/tarot_edition_millennium_2020.html And here are several more: https://tarotmysterium.com/compare_cards.php?card_num=34¤t_deck_id=Pierpont-Morgan Bergamo&spread_cards=

Я не могу представить, что это опечатка, учитывая заботу доктора Бен-Дова о воссоздании колоды Conver, поэтому мне интересно, в чем ее значение? https://wikidiff.com/baston/baton

katrinka Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 The link was fine. It was the text in the quote. We have a lot of members whose first language is not english, who might be using translation software of some kind, but I've never seen it come up in a quote so it's odd. The original Conver was the same way. This is an accurate reproduction by Yves Reynaud. So the one to ask would be Conver himself, and, well...
gregory Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 (edited) YOUR post was fine; it was the quote - and as you (may ) see your quote of me has done the same: Look: As Katrinka says. Translation software doesn't do that - I use it myself at times ! Edited November 22, 2021 by gregory
gregory Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Actually - @katrinka - would you try quoting both Raido and me (separately) - within this thread, as I just asked LittleFang to take a look...

Guest Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 I checked my four TdM decks and found this "nuance" only in the Conver deck (the queen is «bastone», all the others are «batons»). Interesting.... (but personally I have never focused my attention on this before ....)
katrinka Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 While I have nothing against the Russian people (we've had bad leaders, too, you can't blame the whole country) I really don't like quotes mysteriously popping up in Russian. In light of the things that have gone on in recent years, it's uncomfortable. https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-launches-massive-ongoing-wave-of-cyber-attacks-against-us-nyt-2021-10#:~:text=According to the report%2C the, linked to Russia's intelligence services.

gregory Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 (edited) OK this is very weird.... So it's not just me ! Thanks. 14 minutes ago, katrinka said: If that's the case, it's worse. And it doesn't happen when I quote katrinka.... What about... 18 minutes ago, Raido said: But I'm not from Russia )) OK - ONLY when Raido quotes other people... and only in this thread: - it didn't happen elsewhere... I don't believe it's a Russian hack of any kind, given that. But still very strange. Edited November 22, 2021 by gregory
katrinka Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 1 minute ago, gregory said: OK - ONLY when Raido quotes other people... Yes. And I don't see anything in the settings to change the language of the board or anything like that. So nothing's been enabled by mistake.
gregory Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Why just this thread ? (and we have to talk about it here even though it is , as this seems to be the only thread affected.)
gregory Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 OK - but this is the only thread which seems to be affected... And I feel sure that the bastons thing is totally insignificant and relates at MOST to heraldry, and in CBD's case to the fact that he was sort of reproducing Conver, who did it way back when...

gregory Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Exactly - I linked that one earlier, and also this: https://tarotmysterium.com/compare_cards.php?card_num=34¤t_deck_id=Pierpont-Morgan Bergamo&spread_cards= and the Heritage Marseille, as well;.
