The Fluffy Bunny Tarot, an experiment with ai creation

Recommended Posts

The tarot is an established system of images.

I wished to see whether an AI image generating program would produce meaningful results from the card names.

Wether or not the produced images would comply with the established meanings and iconography of the tarot in an artistic and meaningful way.

I used the WOMBO DREAM app, free from the playstore.

I made the cards using only a typed prompt and a chosen preset style.

The prompt format was always the theme (fluffy bunny) and the card name.

eg. fluffy bunny, the fool

fluffy bunny, the magician

and so on.

I would be open to any comments, both on the method I used and the cards themselves.

You’ll be posting images here, right? That’s the point of this area, not to direct people to blogs. Looking forward to seeing what your deck looks like 🙂

Its not a blog. Its just somewhere to put the images.

Thank you for sharing your pictures here @Fluffy_Bunny.  I have removed the link to your blogspot site as that is considered self-promotional.

You are welcome to continue posting your pictures in this thread though, just no links in this area.

Thank you.

The blog isn't anything except storage.

There is nothing for sale and nothing to promote, and there never will be.

I thought that other tarot users might be interested in the experiment.

In my opinion it shows that ai does have some understanding of standard iconography, enough to quickly produce an image that adequately fulfills the requirements.

Some are better than others, but in all cases it generated a useable image from nothing but the theme name and the card name.

If anyone likes any of the pictures they should just right click and save.

The resolution here is how they came out of the generation process.

They are what they are.

This software has been discussed before, and so has AI art. You could do a search and you might find some relevant discussions!

Personally, AI art is not for me. I’m a traditional artist and I would define art as anything that’s done with artistic intent. But if I’m not the one doing the art, then does that mean that the program is the artist? Not sure, all I know is that it would rob me of the experience of creating art. Selecting keywords is not art, at least not for me. I don’t think it’s ‘wrong’, just not very interesting. Art is something I couldn’t live without. It’s a way for me to explore different topics and it’s also a form of therapy 🙂

As for the images. The style is one that I’m sure would appeal to some people. It’s not really my cup of tea. I find some of the images workable but others do not really cut it for me. They either miss the mark or are unclear in their intent. But the title is very suitable, and it’s generous of you to share it freely with the world!

This is really interesting, thank you for sharing. Symbolically speaking, some of them turned out great, others would get the job done, a few are just vague and a couple are pretty darn odd. I wonder how the AI arrived at the lovers' image. That one's a headscratcher.

Thanks for your reply!

The lovers was a huge problem.

A lot of attempts failed. I think there is some NSFW filter to stop people making furry porn

The card I used in the end seemed to speak of a oneness, a joining that is inherent in the card.

But no, that was one that didn't work well.

I loved the chariot and the hermit.

So cute

I don't feel that I am any kind of author of this. It took me a day. The ai did it, not me. And the legalities are vague.

I can use them for personal uses, but i don't think I could sell them.

So, anyone who likes can have.

It was an exploration of the mind of ai through the pre existing structure of the tarot.

I will look for other threads on this subject. See what others have made and how they feel about it.

Hey @Fluffy_Bunny thanks for sharing. Can you please explain the legalities a bit more? We can not have any pictures on this forum that might have a copyright issue.

I looked this up on their website:

"Users own all artworks created by users with assistance of the Service, including all related copyrights and other intellectual property rights (if applicable). Users must, as individuals or in a group, contribute creative expression in conjunction with use of the Service, such as in creating or selecting prompts or user inputs to use with the tools offered by the Service. Users acknowledge that artworks generated without creative expression from the user may not be eligible for copyright protection.

Regardless of the creativity of users, WOMBO cannot guarantee the uniqueness, originality, or quality, or the availability or extent of copyright protection for any artwork created by users with assistance of the Service.

You hereby grant WOMBO a worldwide, non-exclusive , non-sublicensable, royalty-free license to copy, reproduce, and display artworks you create using the Service for promotional purposes on the Service."

So as far as I can tell @Fluffy_Bunny owns the copyright to the images but Wombo has a license to do whatever they fancy with them too.

Computer generated art is a legal grey area. It has not been decided yet who owns it.

However, the app I use, WOMBO DREAM, allow personal use, but not commercial.

So it is fine for me to show the art here, and to share it with people, so long as I credit the app that created it.

I will try and find the bit in the TOC on the app and post it up

Thank you!

This is what wombo say in the reddit thread dedicated to showing the art produced by the app.

Q) Where can I use my Dreams? Do I own them? A) You are free to use your Dreams for personal applications for example Album covers. However, if you want to use them in a commercial setting please email us at copyright@wombo.ai. We are working hard to create a straightforward answer to this following all laws/regulations. (This should be in the coming week(s))

However I will be happy to remove the images.

To me they seemed a fun thing to do while playing with my new app. But it seemed to provoke a somewhat combative and hostile response, as though this work is in some way contentious, or my intention was being aggressively challenged.

An uncomfortable and unwelcoming experience.

If it is better that I take these down, I am happy to do so.

It was never my intention to cause problems. Only to show the tarot community the strange, and tarot like images I had got a free art app to make for me.

Well. I am unable to remove the pictures, as I have missed the edit window.

It is therefore up to the mods to either leave them up or take them down.

I am sorry I tried to get back into the tarot community with this project. It was a mistake. It seems to have caused controversy and hostility where none was intended.

A long time ago I was a regular poster on AT.

It was nice to see familiar faces around from the old days.

If anyone remembers me, I was Lillie.

*Wave*

Sorry to have been such a bother to you all today.

I shall make my bows and leave.

Hey Fluffy! Don't worry about it.  While I'm iffy on AI in Tarot (as an artist myself), I do not mind seeing and discussing it!  I appreciate that you posted the copyright information, and it is fine to continue with it here.  It's a good discussion on how AI can generate cards. 🙂

I am so glad you shared this, @Fluffy_Bunnyit was really mesmerizing to look at the images. Actually, it's the first time I see an AI generated deck, it never crossed my mind. What a great idea, i really dig it!

Just like @Scarlet Woodland, The Lovers card stood out the most to me too! It does looks like an interpretation of something like union as you mentioned,  @Fluffy_Bunny The Sun card is very interesting in the same way.

Was there any specific input directing the AI to generate a rather small, cold light floating orb? As opposed to something closer to a huge, fiery astral body.
