Raggydoll
As promised, these are the cardboard boxes that I've done so far. I watched Culifaens Youtube video ( ) and tried her method, but I decided that there were some things that I wanted to do differently. (She has a technique were she takes the paper that is on the outside of the box and folds it over the edges of the box and then stick it inside (behind) the paper that is on the inside of the box. (So hard to explain, but if you watch her video you'll know what I'm talking about). I felt that her way of doing it would take much longer and also produce more fragile edges (when you insert your cards you inevitable rub against the glued edge). So I decided to take a look at my other pre-made boxes (the mass produced ones and the indie ones). And they all had another technique that actually looked much neater to me (they simply let the outside paper overlap the inside paper slightly. So that's what I decided to do. And it turned out really well. I used a bone folder to press down every edge and to make all the folds more neat. I also used a heavy duty paper cutter to cut out the cardboard pieces. And I used acid free cardboard, paper and glue. The cardboard i used was marked 620g (about 1 mm thickness) and it gives a very nice and sturdy box. I decorated my boxes with extra cards, but since one of them (tarot of the four elements) did not come with any extra cards, then I went ahead and scanned and printed an image on water resistant photo paper. I think it looks really great!

Raggydoll
I am totally hooked now. Next up are some of my trimmed decks, and my Sakki Sakki as well.. I decided to go with black boxes initially to hold down costs (buying lots of fancy paper can really add up, and I wasn’t even sure if box making would be something that I would actually like to continue with. So I might branch out eventually, but black boxes look so good and it’s very practical too.. (the black paper is actually a thin cardboard (130g) to make the boxes even sturdier.) Flaxen
They look amazing, Raggydoll[/member]! Boxes make them a bit easier to store/transport too.
jema
The boxes looks just amazing! I have a few decks living in really poorly made bags, like those silk ones from LoS that I really hate. Also bags, unless you had the same deck in the same bag for years, they get mixed up and it can take me an hour to find the deck I want. I have a few nice bags i croched myself and quite a few of Sulis bags that are great. But now I wanna make boxes!

Yes and it makes for a much easier storage as well (and smaller boxes = room for more decks!! ;D)

Jewel
Raggydoll, your boxes are beautiful! I have thought about making some tarot bags, but I don't have a sewing machine and I really prefer the bags with lining. I might try one by hand to see how it comes out. I am use to sewing on a small scale (doll clothes, and actually made a lined Christmas tree skirt) by hand so it might come out OK. Just trying to figure out how to do the double draw string. Bookworm
I really like these boxes too. I hate sewing, so bags are out, but maybe I could make a box.

faerybraids
Raggydoll[/member] Nice! Those boxes look great. :D Jewel[/member] I hope I'm thinking right about what you're mentioning... (Where you pull loops of strings on both sides of the bag, right? Not just the one loop on the one side?) Usually you would feed one length of string through the draw band, tie it off, and then feed another length of string through from the opposite end and tie it off, so one tied loop's on one side and the other's on the other. (Does that make sense?)

Raggydoll
My Sakki-Sakki tarot came without a box so I wanted to make something nice for it to live in. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. This deck makes me smile, and I feel the same way about the box. (I did not have any extra cards that I felt would be good for decorating the box, so I simply scanned one of the cards and then added Monickas lovely logo on top of it). Raggydoll
Oh, thank you EmpyreanKnight! I have just started planning and making decorations for my next box project: The Jolanda Tarot (a.k.a. Swedish Witch tarot). This is a vintage version with Swedish titles. I really prefer the Swedish one over the English version, mainly because it has these really subtle grey borders while the English version has very distinct purple borders. I wanted to make a picture to put on the box that would resemble one of the actual cards, but give it a little more bling. So I scanned one of the cards (this is the High Priestess, for those of you who do not speak Swedish 8)) and cropped it to remove the borders. And then I printed it on photo paper and glued it onto a piece of silver metallic paper. I used a corner to make it look more like a real card. I am liking how it is going so far! Albadawn
Here is the box I made for my Nova tarot You have just answered a very old question for me! I have this deck and I can never remember what it's called, because it's not written on the box it came in. Seeing this makes me want to whip it out and use it again, it's delightfully quirky and fun. ;D

It really sells itself short with its packaging and low price. It is easy to overlook or dismiss it as being trivial, but I think there is a lot more to it.
