I found these items while packing. They were tucked away in my drawer. A consignment store find several years ago when I was first delving into learning to read tarot. The book is dated 1948, but the author begins by saying she started using this technique in 1935 and the playing board included is dated 1938. The pack of astrology cards are undated, published by Zolar. Both are well loved.

Anyone familiar with either of these?

I searched the forum for both and couldn't find any previous mentions of them!

They look like such fun though, what a find in your packing 🙂❤️

I found this, there is a Zolar 's Astrological Tarot, released 1982 -

Yours looks much earlier though

Thank you, @DanielJUK, for your efforts and for the link. My cards are astrology only. I’ll post a picture a little bit later today. I am so curious about them now. 😊🧐

I am now puzzled; I certainly once had a Gong Hee Fot Choy, but it isn't in my catalogue any more...

What a cool find! I have Zolar's Astrological Tarot; it reuses some of the graphics from the fortune telling cards.

Edited to add a couple pics of Zolar. His real name was Bruce King. He published loads of astrology books and other occult titles. Also murder mysteries!

Here is an image of the Zolar Astrology cards. There are a total of 32 cards: 12 green cards representing each of the 12 Astrological Houses and a Favorable (red) and Unfavorable (black) card for ten planets.

The instructions are very focused on definite meanings and approaches.

@Laura Borealis, This is very interesting. Thank you for all the details. He seems to have lead a very interesting  life. I did a little bit of research and he seems to have been quite ambitious along with discovering his calling.

The Encyclopedia of Ancient and Forbidden Knowledge calls for some of my attention, @gregory. Thank you for the link. I am not feeling any interest in the tarot deck. The Gong Hee Fot Choy book calls for playing cards and I sadly gave away a perfect Asian deck that I now wish I had kept for this game, but alas, not meant to be. Thankfully, playing cards are easy to obtain. This will be fun to try.

Katrinka gave us some info about Zolar and the tarot meanings from the Encyclopedia some years ago....

I know it's available public domain online these days but hope to pick up a copy of the encyclopedia sometime in my life. It looks like a fun old book

I found it by chance in a used bookshop, for $2 but I think it's easy to find. You have a message, Dan....

I did, or do, have that Gong Hee Fot Choy book; my mother picked it up somewhere (was it given to her? I don't remember) and she gave it to me; this was back in the '70s or '80s. I did find it interesting; the most interesting though was that some of the meanings assigned to the individual cards matched what she remembered of her own mother's reading method. I don't know where that book is now, more's the pity, because I really want to study it.

I never had any Zolar cards, though. I certainly knew of him; his name was everywhere back in the day.

This feels special and I hope the book re-appears for you. I am looking forward to reading it once we are settled into the house.
