Misterei Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 @fire cat pickles I'm in with Mondnacht Lenormand. But I'll also be following your progress with DFW 😉
Rachelcat Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Hi everyone! Dame Fortune's Wheel is on my list for a deck of the week. But you may have scared me off! Just kidding. I definitely need to get into to see if it's a keeper. In the meantime: This week will be another one of my “merged” (shuffled together) decks, Centenary Special Rider Waite Tarot + Tarot of the New Vision, again taking advantage of the fact that Lo Scarabeo decks are of uniform size. The LS RWS edition was, as you can tell, published for the 100th anniversary of the RWS. It has a lilies back. The New Vision, which I think was later republished (or published in other languages?) as Vice Versa Tarot, consists of illustrations of what is going on from the back or behind RWS scenes. It has a double-ended Ace of Pentacles back.) They both have the annoying five-language title borders (eliminating Pixie’s lovely hand-lettered titles). I see in the little case I keep them together in my elemental dignities cheat sheet, so maybe I’ll use that at some time this week. And we’ll see what I can do with a 156-card deck. In the meantime, wash, return upright, shuffle, and interview! All RWSs except one. Two Kings of Wands side by side. What is your most important characteristic? King of Wands It’s the OG tarot and that makes it easy to take action with. What is your strength? 8 Cups It goes in a different direction and leaves the REALLY conventional behind. Your weakness? 6 Swords More moving away, but it moves away from the conventional more emotionally that intellectually. That is, the NV deck is more intuitive than systematic. What can you teach me? Ace of Pentacles (This is the NV back illustration.) It can teach me about how much it’s a gift that I can have so many decks to choose from. And they all, or the ones that I keep, have value. How can I learn it? NV King of Wands The back of the king’s stone throne has a relief of a loving couple and a lion, so a King of Wands can be either a type of masculinity or a powerful leader. Or both I guess. I can learn to appreciate my collection and my prosperity by realizing I’m in charge of (lion) choosing (lovers) what I want and what I keep. What will be the outcome of our work together? 5 Cups It won’t be emotionally satisfying but I’ll still keep the two decks. Well, that was fun! We’ll see how it goes!
Misterei Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Daily draw with Mondnacht Lenormand. I just got this deck from Germany / Etsy. it's moody and atmospheric, a bit gothic, but not too dark. More like dreamy. I like the classical imagery but with a borderless artsy take. 2 cards I dislike are Ring and Mountain where it's an obvious photo-collage. Hate that. But otherwise it's well-done. No card insets or names. The names aren't needed. The images are traditional and easy to recognise. I miss the card insets. OTOH it's more of a moody artsy deck, so aesthetics trumped insets. I wouldn't use it as a beginner deck. But for and intermediate or advanced I like it. I've posted pix here. The GT has playing card placeholders in case you're wondering. The top cards are Mondnacht. You can view my journal if you care to read the readings.

fire cat pickles Posted May 20, 2024 Author Posted May 20, 2024 Welcome back @Misterei! I will be around as much as time permits this week. I have a lot on my plate. I pulled some cards with no real time to type up a response yet. Welcome back @Rachelcat 🙂 Interesting to shuffle in together two decks. What do you do if you get two of the same cards in one reading?
Madame Squee Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 Thank you for the thread @fire cat pickles 💐 I'm in with... Tarot of a Moon Garden (Borderless) and Mother Mort's Carnival of Souls Oracle Deck I've been wanting to start exploring Mother Mort's Carnival of Souls, but I'm not ready to leave Tarot of a Moon Garden behind -- so I am choosing both. Here's a quick reading to see how they might work together... My concern is, "What do I need to know right now?" Ace of Pentacles and Bone Fairy: My initial thought is that someone is after my money. After sitting with that feeling for a few minutes, trying to imagine any other interpretation, I checked the Mother Mort's LWB. The Bone Fairy card represents "a hunger for something new or a new adventure in your life", as well as "a cage you wish to escape, such as a bad relationship or a job you hate." Hmm... All of that could apply to my propensity to buy a new deck of cards whenever I'm stressed. Well okay, that's actually a really good reading. I'm getting a ton of insight from it. Here, let me just close down the Amazon tabs I opened this morning. I won't need them now... WAIT ONE MINUTE!!! What's this???? Amazon is suggesting that I might want to preorder "The Jolanda Witch Tarot: The Healing Art of Magic Cards"??!!! Seventy-eight cards and 400-page book in English!!! You better bet your sweet bippy I do!!! So, that was a fabulous reading! Obviously, I'm hungering for something new and need a new adventure in my life. Counting down the days to July 9... PS: In my book, the Ace of Pentacles can always represent a tarot reading, as well as a new job, money, or birth. PPS: At least I can relax now, knowing who's after my money. Lol.
Bodhiseed Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 I'm late to the party! Thank you, Fire cat. ❤️ This week I'll be using the Cosmic Tarot, created by Norbert Losche and published by U.S. Games. I'll also be drawing from L'Oeil de Lotus (Eye of the Lotus), created by Colette and Gérard Lougarre and published by Vox Arkhana. Today's cards are the Ten of Wands and Winter: The burden in our minds is always heavier than the burdens on our shoulders. ― Mehmet Murat ildan Intense pain, in some respects, is like an orgasm; it literally sweeps away every thought in the mind except for the physical sensation itself. We've all felt some degree of it, and usually battle it like an enemy, wanting the pain to go away and stop disrupting our busy lives. But these thoughts add to our pain. Rebecca Li defines suffering as an experience of the present moment to which we add vexations (craving, aversion, delusion). We want our health back, hate our infirmity, and believe it will last forever. But perhaps there is another way. The oracle card Winter depicts the season of cold and starkness - a fitting representation for pain (especially with the man using the cane). Yet this season will eventually pass, giving way to spring. Pain too can fluctuate, sometimes ebbing sometimes surging. It will not stay unchanged. Curiosity rather than anger may be a guide to less suffering.

What do you do if you get two of the same cards in one reading? Obviously, that makes the card more important! But also then I would closely read the differences between the two. I don't think I could do two of exactly the same deck. That would be strange. But these are just alike enough AND different enough to make it interesting! I did have two kings of wands in the interview, but the spread positions differentiated them. It would be more of a challenge with no spread position meanings! Maybe I'll try that this week too!
fire cat pickles Posted May 21, 2024 Author Posted May 21, 2024 Welcome back @Madame Squee and @Bodhiseed!

I think Amazon and every corporate/government entity is after our money, our attention, our thoughts, our bodies, our souls ... I'm learning to discern if I'm buying a new deck b/c I genuinely want it ... or if its just for the momentary dopamine rush of finding and acquiring a Thing. I still get it wrong sometimes ... but I also get it right sometimes.

Thank you for asking! 💐 Honestly, I can't remember how/where this idea originated, but I suspect I read it somewhere. Ruminating on it this morning, my first guess was that I found it in the Granny Jones Australian Tarot Book, because she includes a lot of keywords for every card, and some meanings are a bit different than the usual. The images on the cards certainly are. This is what I found for the Ace of Buttons: Prosperity. Wealth. Windfall. New ideas. Opportunities. There are new ideas coming which will be successful and bring you prosperity. There could also be unexpected money, such as windfalls from gambling, lotteries, or even finding money somewhere. There could be improvements in your finances from your work or hobbies This card offers financial security and stability. Next, I checked the LWB for the Motherpeace Tarot and found: Newborn; a gift; beginning a new project. (Interestingly, the Ace of Wands also pictures a newborn baby. However, the LWB description seems quite specific to Wands: The birth of new energy; "I am"; a celebration of life.) Finally, I checked Tarot of the Cloisters. I really enjoy this LWB, because it contains so much helpful information AND succinct meanings -- Ace of Pentacles: Starting on the path. Path towards a financial goal - material attainment. My research is done for tonight. Comparing and contrasting card meanings from deck to deck is always interesting to me, and I'd really like to figure out the source of my quirky belief. However, my mind has started to wander to all of the tarot decks and books that didn't survive the journey with me into the 21st century. I won't let that stop me though. #2. IMHO Capitalists are the source of all pain. Mostly, I stay out of tarot-purchasing trouble by not allowing myself to become aware of new releases. But when I inevitably poke my head out and see something I think I can't live without, I go to the reviews on Youtube. Usually, that's enough to deter me. I can almost always clock a deal-breaker in those videos. And yet, despite every single bothersome thing I saw in Mother Mort's Carnival of Souls, I still wound up ordering it. Oh well. It may still work out.🤞

I read 7 Swords differently than most people. I don't know why. I just do and it just works. If that's how it is for Ace Pents and you ... I understand 😉 13 hours ago, Madame Squee said: ... I can almost always clock a deal-breaker in those videos ... I'm struggling lately. I had my collection complete at 78 decks and a 1-in-1-out rule to keep it there. But I recently got into Lenormands and got sucked into seeing all sorts of decks I want. Or I'm researching historic Tarots and see a historic deck reprint I desire. *sigh*. A certain part of my profession [and hobby] will always involve researching decks. I can't avoid it. But this leads to that dopamine seek-find circuit in the brain and suddenly I'm ordering decks or fighting with myself to NOT order decks b/c my brain has been hi-jacked by dopamine. Ugh! Would I objectively want new Deck X without dopamine in my brain? I have no idea. Edited May 22, 2024 by Misterei

It falls on my birthday, and I've never cared for the usual thief interpretations. So, I finally settled on this embroidery based on something I read somewhere: "Take whatever lessons you can learn from a bad situation and leave the rest behind." Tarot of a Moon Garden gives us this: "Precautions are warranted. New plans require research. A lack of preparedness may thwart otherwise sound ventures. With this in mind, the seeker will achieve success in spite of another's interference." I really like that -- especially the last sentence. Here's a quick reading with the 7 of Swords laid out in the middle of the spread... 17 The Star ~ 5 of Pentacles ~ 7 of Swords ~ 3 of Pentacles ~ 3 of Staffs My take: Although the seeker's plans regarding a new enterprise have fallen into ruin, there is still hope. The cards advise starting over on your own or at least reexamining your partnerships before commencing. PS: Close examination of the 5 and 3 of Pentacles made me realize that the pentacles in both cards are located on the inside of the window, and it is the reader's point of view that has flipped. That difference creates quite an impact on my feelings towards the two scenes: I'm on the outside... I'm on the inside!

Something repeats [like an argument that never gets resolved so the family keeps repeating the same argument]. Or it can be return to finish something. Return to a place / person / job you've done before. It often works with Star. In a romance reading 7 Swords + Star = getting back with your ex. Or in a work spread, going back to your old job or employer. I find it interesting that you got 7 Swords + Star in your most recent reading. Edited May 23, 2024 by Misterei

I have to try it out tomorrow when I'm fresh. I even have a real-life question for the reading. As far as today's spread is concerned, I laid the 7 of Swords down and drew the other four cards to surround it. In retrospect, I could've looked for the 7 of Swords in the deck and used the two cards before and after it, Lenormand-style. That's what I'll do next time. Speaking of Lenormand, I eventually tapered off from collecting them by limiting myself to decks that include the playing card symbol. Then, I just stopped altogether. That worked for one entire year before I found myself acquiring another one when I bought the Siren's Song Lenormand & Kipper Card set -- which I wanted for the Kipper cards.😜 Thank goodness, there aren't many Kipper decks out there, and I really think I'm full up with six! But if I'm honest, a seventh did catch my eye on Etsy recently. Thankfully, if I don't think about it, I will forget about it. In fact, I did -- until just now.

I was more than satisfied with my small collection. But now that I've gotten serious about learning it in-depth ... It's like I want to reward myself with new decks. Since NO ONE in the real world cares that I've just memorized all 36 cards or updated my notes 🤣 Vis a vis the insets. I like decks with them for practicality, but aesthetically speaking, there are a few decks where the design trumps having an inset. And I love my eyecandy!
