Unboxings and First Impressions

Retrospective Tarot arrived. Could not be more chuffed with both the gorgeous, harmoniously-edited, artwork and the silver gilding. The cards came loose so there's no stickiness to it at all, unlike the Fountain tarot.

May take some pictures later if there's interest.

I am so excited!! Look what just arrived...

It is still in its plastic, but most of you will probably be able to see what it is anyway 😀

This is the back, of course. I used printerstudio to print my own copy of the Greenwood tarot, using Chesca Potters free images. I went for a borderless small edition without titles (this is the regular playing card size) and it is deluxe linen cardstock......

I could stare at those backs all day long!! And the cardstock is soooo smooth!!

I did not design or purchase a tuck box for this deck as I want to make my own special purse for it.

Now lets take a look at some of the cards!

Chescas art is just so... breathtaking. And there is so much special power embedded in it. I would almost call it a medicine deck.

😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

I cropped the images a bit and made sure they were centered nicely. But I will say that printerstudio is really easy to work with. As long as you make sure that the files are the right size and have the right resolution then all is good. I also love that they are a printer hub so they will print at your nearest location (which means no custom charges!). My deck came from germany so the shipping wasn't expensive and it didn't take very long to get to me. Thank you @gregory for telling me about that site. I will definitely use it to print my own deck once it is done.

It's absolutely STUNNING.

Thank you! I am so pleased with it and I am extremely happy that I went with the linen cardstock. It shuffles like a dream!!

You did a good job. I've seen other people do it borderless but they've stretched the images which annoys me. Love yours, stunning!

Thank you! I’ve seen that version too and I didn’t like it (the stretched skull on the seven of cups is what really put me off). I did the least amount of tweaking on it and kept the Storyteller backs. The small size helped. That way I didn’t have to alter the proportions very much and the images looks sharper too.

WOW Raggedydoll, your Greenwood is so beautiful!!  May it inspire others here to do the same!

I think I would need the titles on them for my own deck 🧐 but I need to have another look at what that wouldactually look like ....  🙂

Ugh. I got a LS TdM back in the early 2000's, and when I noticed the images were stretched, that ruined it for me. And I really don't understand why they stretched Tarot-sized images for a Tarot!
Stretching is definitely something to be avoided.

Bastetly, if you need titles, you could just find a nice font and add them in with MS Paint. I'd keep them minimal when at all possible - "2S" in a corner rather than "2 of Stones". It will still be much nicer than having a big white title bar, IMHO!

LOOOOL 😂   And I LIKE your suggestions.  Very tasteful, unobtrusive, and better than my own handwriting, that's for sure 😉  Wait, would that be done after the cards were printed up somewhere else?  Or.......??

Nah, you go to mi-shells blog, download the pdf - extract the pictures as separate files and then write on them in an editing program. Just make sure you don’t place the text to close to the edge (you could take a look at the templates that printerstudio and the other card making sites offer where everything is clearly explained).

https://voicewithinthecards.wordpress.com/greenwood-tarot-book/

Here’s the size I worked with:

poker size, option 1 - blank cards

Download the template and make sure your files are the correct size and resolution that they give you three.

Then you go back to the site, choose cardstock, packaging and total amount of cards. When you’re done you simply upload your images and drag them to the empty slots and double check that they look nice.

Basically. It’s so off topic here so I won’t go into detail but we could have a separate thread about printing your own cards if needed. Good luck 😊

Sorry, no pictures of the cards. I don't know when I will get around to opening and using the deck. But at least now the deck is available to me when the time is right 😌

My English Magic tarot set arrived in the post today. It was very cheap from eBay so I was a little bit apprehensive about the quality but yet again I've been pleasantly surprised by an inexpensive deck. I was drawn to the visual impact of it initially but since taking a quick glance at the book I'm even happier to discover that it's the 'imagined' tarot of Sir Isaac Newton and contains a hidden message. This deck is going to be so much fun.

omg i've missed a few posts in this thread, for shame! I love them! @KaiNO you got so many accoutrements to go with that deck i don't blame you for not opening the cards for a bit! @ilweran you posted about that deck somewhere else i think and i found it really intriguing. These pictures are lovely. And @Danvers i own the english magic deck, i think it's such an underrated deck! The colors and design are so engaging and fascinating to me! There was talk somewhere of starting a study thread for it. You should consider it, I'd really enjoy that. And this photo really brings out how dynamic and bright the deck is, well done.

I just got the mother lode of unboxings. I wasn't expecting this package for another week or so, and I was shocked when it showed up today!

As you can see, the Tyldwick box is used, but the cards themselves are sealed. I honestly may just have to stare at these decks for a while before i actually open them. i'm just in shock to even have them, i think.
