GreatDane Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 I admit it. This thread is about living vicariously through you, Lenormand Reader/Collector! X/ For now, I am very happy with my small collection of Lenormands (see profile for list). BUT....I would LOVE to hear about any in your collections, favorites, decks (ESPECIALLY NEW ONES) on your wish list. Indulge a Crone and share?
Asher Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 BUT....I would LOVE to hear about any in your collections, favorites, decks (ESPECIALLY NEW ONES) on your wish list. Indulge a Crone and share? Hi Great Dane! Have just pared down my Lenormand collection to about 85 or so. The only new one I have is Rana George's deck. She has been a teacher, mentor and friend to me during my Lenormand journey and her deck is just stunning! My favorites are undoubtedly my historical reproductions. Reading with them is like going back in time to where it all began. I have several versions of the Game of Hope, quite a few Dondorfs, some Wust decks, a Daveluy (the one Caitlin Matthews made available) and, thanks again to Caitlin, a Zauberkarten deck (a 46 card Lenormand cousin). Does Pixie's Lenormand belong here? I think so! Along with the Lenormand de Marseille, Blue Owl, White Owl, and some miscellaneous Wahrsagen-Karten decks. The closest I have to a real antique deck is 2 copies of the Carerras Lenormands from around 1926. As far as modern decks go, some of my favorites include Alone's Vision, Burning Serpent, Far Sight Lenormand (Australian deck with matching Tarot deck), Malpertuis Lenormand, Ryder's Lenormand (created by Rana George's son Ryder), and a couple of decks by Paris deBono. Newer decks (they come out every time you turn around) do very little for me. So, my collection is, by and large complete!
GreatDane Posted January 18, 2019 Author Posted January 18, 2019 HI ASHER! Oh thanks for sharing! I am happy with the about 9 Lenormands I have. BUT that doesn't mean I don't love to look or hear about other decks X/ LOVE the Chow pic :)
Madame Squee Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Hi Great Dane X/ It's so nice to be here with you! Thank you for the thread. My newest acquisition is the deck of "Lenormand Oracle Cards" by Alexandre Musruck, published by Red Feather. It features poker-size cards with smooth golden edges, muted sepia-tone and pastel background colors (except for the Moon and Stars which are set in moody blue skies). The cards have a playing card insert, number, and no borders. There are no titles, either. However, the symbols are quite clear, except for the Book, which shows an open book of music on a stand. That threw me off at first. The people in the inserts appear to be 18th century French courtiers. The symbols themselves don't appear inconsistent with that era, but I'm definitely not an expert. My only quarrel with the symbols is that a couple of them appear a bit blurry to me on close inspection. There is an extra Gentleman, Lady and Child card. The cards shuffle really well, and the finish is matte. The deck is packaged in a hard 2-piece box that was an absolute bear to get open. I finally accomplished the task with a butter knife, and afterward, I pulled on the sides of the top lid gently until it stretched sufficiently to keep it from sticking again. All in all, I'd give this production 4.5 stars, especially considering the price of it. Now to my favorite: the STS Lenormand, directed and published by Sylvie Steinbach, art produced by Tarot Lyn. You gave me the poker-size color edition, which I carry with me everywhere, and I can never thank you enough for it. In fact, I loved it so much that I had to buy the bridge-size set of black and white cards and color cards. There are no playing card inserts, titles or borders. There is a number and a playing card notation. The symbols are clear and delicious. The STS is absolutely perfect in my eyes! xoxo PS: I have more decks to write about, but it's wayyyyy past my bedtime! ;D
GreatDane Posted January 25, 2019 Author Posted January 25, 2019 LOVELY TO SEE YOU, MADAME SQUEEEE! THANKS for posting. You know how much I love Lenormand decks <3 X/
Flaxen Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 My favourite is the Dondorf - I have a few variations of this one and it’s always the one I reach for. So much so, that I’m going to clear out most of my other Lenormands.
GreatDane Posted January 25, 2019 Author Posted January 25, 2019 Really love all my small collection, but today, this weekend, I think I will pull out Mysteries of the Old Castle. Feels fitting for cold winter days and nights.

reall Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 And you know which deck I turn to a lot, Reall X/ :) One of my go tos. you did a grand job! Ha ha! Thank You! Always Happy to hear that!^^ lol
Czenzi Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 I like the old school decks generally. My collection is very small. So far I have two reproduction Dondorf decks, the Blue Owl deck and the Red Owl deck. I also have Ana Cortez’s cards, which are more for cartomancy, and a couple of other Doreen Virtue oracle decks and some Rider Waite-style tarot decks.
DownUnderNZer Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 I am fussy about decks these days and with the Lenormand they have to check all the boxes for me. Not busy and large enough images as well as numbers. Titles or words have to be decent in size as well and not too far off the original ones. Eg Paths/Crossroads. Alas, however, I always seem to fall back on my beloved Blue Owl as it is a faithful companion and easy on the eyes. Never leads me astray and is my right hand man through thick and thin. There is a beautiful one I have seen recently, but therw are too many people cards in it like a Kipper deck and the Man and Woman are not facing anywhere really. So, I will not get it although I think the artwork is truly outstanding. DND X/
bookshop Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 I scoured the internet far and wide for a Lenormand deck that really spoke to me, and I LOVE the one I eventually settled on! It's the Alternate Realities Lenormand, and it seems to be tragically underrated! It's so gorgeous! i think it's only available on the artist's website at this point: https://jae-larson-designs.myshopify.com/products/alternate-realities-lenormand-card-deck I love it so much. You can see it in the wild on instagram, a little: https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/alternaterealitieslenormand/
Sentire Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 (edited) It has been a while I see since anybody posted something here. Sinds I started learning about lenormand last year, the biggest thing I've learned is that it comes with THE biggest addiction in buying cards. I started out with the expanded lenormand by Ciro Marchetti, because it was mandatory in the classes I took, but along the way I found other decks that I could not resist bying! I love older looking decks, but also the pretty colorful ones. (like the jamie saywer or the sparkly lenormand deck) I recently bought a personal (used) deck from Björn Meuris. It is his Geûens-Willaert deck. But there is one pretty deck I would love to own ( I almost hate myself for saying it, because it sounds so selfish!!) and that is the Magisches Lenormand. I haven't been able to find it online, but that is totally okay, one must have dreams right? ☺️ Does anybody know about Lenormand decks that are coming? Edited August 26, 2021 by Sentire
katrinka Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 I've accumulated a lot of these over the years and they're generally very good, they're what I use most: http://gameofhopelenormand.bigcartel.com/ This is a new favorite. It's a reproduction of an old version of the Piatnik, and it's lovely: https://www.loscarabeo.com/en/products/grand-tableau-lenormand-oracle-card I guess you can tell that I favor historical reproductions. 😁 There are a few newer decks I like, but most of them tend to get everything all wrong.

Does the reading go wrong, or do the images not correspond with the original meanings? 😃
katrinka Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 The images are often a complete departure from ANY accepted meanings. Case in point, this thing: This (in addition to the obvious racial stereotype): And from the same deck: Seriously, what IS this? I don't mind an occasional wonky one, if it's done intelligently: with humor and irony, or as something experimental but thought-out. But these are the work of people who aren't even trying.

My printer discontinued bridge size cards.

It sounds to me like daughter needs to find a new printer. This is the site Lauren currently runs. Bridge size appears to still be available there, but I'd ask first just to be sure: https://thecartomancer.bigcartel.com/category/lenormand-cards

Yeah I mean it can not be that hard to print smaller? Especially if you do more than 9 cards a table will be full full full 😝
Guest Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 That is strange. I thought they used Drive Thru Cards.
katrinka Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 I'm not sure who they use. But I heard back. What she said, in a nutshell, is that they don't sell a lot of cards and they only make a tiny profit on a deck. When you do volume you get cheaper printing per deck, but the demand isn't there right now. I'd suggested her daughter find another printer and she said a second one cost twice as much and the a third cost triple, so it isn't worth it. There were other issues as well like finishes, boxes, etc. but that's the main thrust of it. I still think they're worth purchasing. The extra space appears to be in the borders where it can be trimmed. I know it can suck feeling compelled to do work on a brand new deck, but it's still better than stretched images. Right now there's no good alternative, we can't expect people to operate at a loss. And I'd much rather have this Rider with a little extra border than that backwards one wearing a Mary Quant knockoff and riding a wooden horse, lol.

Right nobody wants to work at a loss, that is fully understandable! Have to think about that trimming can only be done with a cutting machine which I do not have..... Where I am loads of things are limited or frigging expensive.

It is disappointing — however, poker-size on quality card-stock is far better than bridge on poor quality card and bad printing. The Brepol definitely came from the same place: Drive Thru Cards. You can get the Pam-A facsimile from them: https://www.drivethrucards.com/product/316815/The-1909-Art-Restoration-Deck-Tarot-Cards Edited August 28, 2021 by Guest
