Do you throw out tarot deck boxes?

Those look great!

Thank you 🙂 they are easy and quick to make, but it does take an effort – so I think twice before buying more decks.

I'm way late coming to this topic. I don't keep the tuck boxes but the larger ones with the magnetic closure strip I always keep because they're too sturdy and useful not to. It would be a shame to throw them out.

I used one of them quite a few years ago to cover with suede and beadwork as a jewelry box I gave as a Christmas present. Another of them I've used to store all the LWB's  from various decks. The one that the Everyday Enchantment came in isn't designated for a use yet but I expect I'll find a use for it one of these days.

The rest of my decks are in tins or in plastic containers I got at Walmart. Or in fabric bags I already had. I've also crocheted some bags and I've made some boxes of beaded and stiffened felt. Right now the only one still in its original box, besides the mini Pagan Cats I have, is the Casanova I just got but when the tuck box starts showing wear, I'll make a box for it from beaded felt or else put it into a bag.

I keep the boxes, always. As a collector, there's useful information on the boxes -- ISBNs, publishers and publication dates, and the like. Also, I have far too many decks to be bothered with making or finding custom bags for everything.

Though...over the years I have tossed a few of those overly-big Llewellyn boxes that came with deck/book sets. I don't know if Llewellyn still uses those for packaging or not, as it has been a little while since I've bought any of their decks.

Keeping boxes is a good idea if by chance you decide to sell a deck.  Ones I use a lot are stored in something else, but I keep a bin to hold any empty tuckboxes, spare bags, plastic cases bc ya never know when the winds may change and it's time to find them new homes.  It happens!

I generally keep decks in the box in which they came.  But I'm about halfway done turning those big useless Llewellyn set boxes that contain the even more useless plain white box into deck-specific boxes. I can post pics if anyone is interested. I've made boxes for decks I received whose boxes weren't going to last. If I've received a deck that didn't come with a box, I've either made a box for it or put it in a drawstring bag.

Attached are samples of big bulky Llewellyn outer boxes that I've converted into deck-specific boxes. The Rumi Tarot and Tarot of the Vampyres are shown. I think I've done about 15 boxes total and have another 12-15 boxes left to do.

I've also worked out a way to convert those useless one-size-doesn't-fit-all white boxes into sizes that work for specific decks.

I keep all the cards in their original boxes. The few whose boxes have disintegrated are in little bags along with the shards of their boxes! 🙂 I did throw out one box from a set long ago, but I never did that again. I also acquired a couple used decks without boxes. But those are the exceptions.

I keep the cards in their original boxes until they fall apart (but even then I might tape them up). I've tossed out a few of those big, flimsy ones and regretted it later.

In my case, that's good in theory, buuuuuut -
After some years and a few moves, I was finding flattened tuckboxes in junk drawers, panty drawers, being used as bookmarks...you get the picture.

So I tossed most of them. Buh-bye. Not the old Baba tuckboxes, or the white Thoth box or anything like that. But if I decided to sell my far-from-first-edition Albano Waite or similar, I'm sure pairing it with a nice bag would garner more interest than that damn tuckbox!

Huh.  Not bad reasoning.  I actually need the large bin my tuckboxes are stored in.  And my garage needs a break!  Most of my decks, the normal-sized ones, I placed into a sectioned plastic photos suitcase w some non-acid paper on top.  I think I'll go through that bin and see what we can do about making it available to me again.  Bags take up no space....  HAHA I found a PILE of cloths I had bought at Hancock Fabrics before they closed.  I was on a mission to have a matching spread cloth for every one of my decks back in 2008.  WTF??

They are very pretty.  Now I have an incredible collection of ALTAR cloths, or a new fashion mask-making business 😅  Glad you pulled my quote up.  Timing=Everything🍸cheers!
