What Would You Consider To Be a Really Good And Meaningful Question To Ask The Tarot?

I would also love to ask the tarot what my purpose is and what I am destined to do for the world.  ^_^ 🙂

I don't really know if this counts as a question, but my favorite approach for personal readings is to come with an open mindset and simply say: "I'm here. I'm listening. So, tell/show me."

I also go with the 'what do I need to know right now' approach (or 'what do I need to know about .......')

The openness gives the cards a chance to tell the story however they feel you need to hear it!

What can we best do to make humans wake up to the damage they are doing and start to work together, before it's too late ?

For me, it's 'What do I need to know about...' , 'What can I do...' or How can I best help myself / others...etc...where the sitter takes an active roll. I think that the question(s) can easily be applied to any scenario whether it's a reading that is conducted on a personal level, or a much grander scale.

I pretty much only read for myself and I always ask the cards to please tell me something important and meaningful that I need to know today.  Or else I ask if the guy I met last weekend is thinking about me and if he's going to call.

No, just kidding.  I use my Magic 8 Ball for that.

Still kidding - I don't meet guys and if I did I would just wait and see.

Seconding this. I find I usually get the most important information I need this way as opposed to doing set spreads.

I haven’t found the perfect questions yet. It’s a part of reading cards I’m not currently any good at. Oftentimes, I just sit there for a long time, struggling with how to pose a question. All I know is, that most questions I’ve encountered are laced with assumptions, and I guess what I’m trying to find in every situation, is something that perfectly pinpoints the issue, while at the same time presumes nothing...

Even common questions like ”What do I need to know today,” takes away the option of not needing to know anything for today, which is of course also a possibility!

I guess I haven’t found my perfect model yet, so it’s something for the future.

Wow, @Nordica De Spell, this never occurred to me, and you are right.

My question has always been

and I'm rethinking that after reading your intriguing observation.

What do you think of asking the cards simply to tell me something important and meaningful.  Surely it is fact, not assumption, that there is always something important and meaningful to learn?  Unless, of course, one has achieved Enlightenment, in which case presumably one no longer uses Tarot.

Well, I agree in that there might not always be anything important or special we need to know on a given day, but I also view the tarot as being perfectly capable of communicating those type of messages too. I don’t believe we can ever force the cards to tell us something we aren’t supposed to know. Does this mean that we never get told things that might hurt us? No. Instead I think it means that we needed to hear something, despite that it would hurt or disappoint us. So I think your signature question is still perfectly valid and constructive, Grandma!

(Sorry for going off topic but it was just such an interesting discussion. One that we should perhaps continue elsewhere? ☺️)

I don't think this is at all off topic, @Raggydoll - it's a logical extension of the idea of formulating a good question, and it's the type of natural digression that usually leads back to the original discussion.  I vote for leaving it here.  Of course, you are the Moderator and I am your Grandma and you are all grown up now and I trust you to make the right decision.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I might not want the cards to give me distressing information.  If that's what I need to know, that's what I trust them to tell me.   I'm just answering @Nordica De Spell's observation that on a particular day there may be nothing that we need to know relating to that day, by wondering if we could still ask the cards what is important in general without inserting assumptions into the reading.  For a silly example, I might not have to take a math test today but it would still be helpful to review my multiplication tables for general  purposes, in case I lose my calculator or need to show off to my grandchildren.  (Not you, sweetie - you know I know my basic arithmetic.)

I didn’t actually think that. I believe it was my own thought process that came across that way. I was sort of typing out loud 😅

You are right. I don’t like questions based on assumptions either.

Well, I’d think that if you sit down and specifically want to use that time for talking about something meaningful or important with the cards, that that would be fine! 🙂

I'm always afraid that I'm operating in a personal blind spot. So I ask, "What do I need to see about myself that I'm not seeing?"

The question I most often ask the Tarot, whether for myself or for someone else is "what does the Universe need me to know?"  It just seems to fit with every situation when I'm given a question to answer (almost).  It's also good as a stand alone when you're not sure what to ask.

Questions about the future, most certanly, you won't get quite a lot by asking personal feelings or the like,so questions about what will happen in the future, however tarot only deals within a certain timeframe, but one should try to make the questions worldly and see the long term of events,

Dangerous - that assumes that it will ever be.... I would never ask a question which presumes something will happen.
