Rupicapra
Welcome to the study group for the Mary-El Tarot by Marie White.  This thread is for general discussion of the deck, comments and questions.  If the card you're interested in discussing isn't here yet, please feel free to start a new thread, but please try to avoid duplicate threads.  Enjoy 🙂
Guest libra
Thank you for starting our first thread!  I'm interested to know HOW people use this deck - like for me, I'm not interested in using it for readings for clients, or even in spreads. I really do consider it to be a cornerstone in my tarot practice, and yet I might pull a card from it every couple of months! But that card, it did so deep into my soul, the lessons I'm learning in life and the growth that I'm going through, that I couldn't process the card any faster than that! I generally get like 8 pages of journaling out of a single card right of the get go, then any other pulls I do from other decks for months are really like honing that message, if directing it to a certain area of my life.  I feel like I'm not alone in using this deck in this way, having watched a few videos of reviews and such, it does seem like many others are hit hard by this deck!
Rupicapra
I like to get to know a new deck by doing one of the many daily tarot challenges on Youtube, just to give me a prompt for what to ask - for the Mary-El I'm going to try to follow Lindsay Mack's Underworld daily tarot challenge (how apt). Like you say, I find the cards go very deep, so I'm at this stage really only skimming over the surface with the challenge, just to get used to the images. Most of my other decks are RWS clones of some kind, the imagery is quite easy for me to read. For the Mary-El I feel I do need the guidebook quite a lot.   edit: I somehow put my text behind a spoiler, edited to fix it, no need to be hidden Edited October 4, 2019 by Rupicapra
Rupicapra
1st edition: the cards are sooooo huge and soooooo shiney! How can I keep them nice and shiney without leaving my fingerprints all over the cards???!!! Â is the 2nd edition just as shiney or is it different card stock? I've heard that it's more matte finish, and closer to normal tarot size!  This deck means so much to me that I'm considering splurging on the new edition even though I'm in the midst of shelling out like 16k on Wolfboy's dental work and really ought not be spending on anything else!

Kashi
The second edition is much nicer imo. Lots of people including myself really put off by the hirophant card on the first print and the image was changed on the second print...or was it the high priestess? I forget lol. The second print has no borders and the red colors are slightly toned down. The 3 of swords was also changed from a bird being pierced by swords to a more rws with a heart.
