Favorite tarot decks

Hi all! I’m new to tarot and new to this community. I’ve started out with the RWS deck. I was wondering what some of your favorite decks are and why? I’m a big visual person. Once I start to feel more comfortable with the cards, I want to get another deck that I visually connect with.

thank you!! 💓

My go to for a good while was Stephanie Pui-Mun Law's Shadowscapes deck (gorgeous!) and I do keep coming back to it. More recently, I've been using Chris-Anne's Light Seer's Tarot a fair bit, as well as a couple of other decks with different foci (the Wildwood, and the Herb-Crafters Tarot, for different reasons.)

One thing I've found is I'm fairly flexible about art style, but picky about the colours used (the classic RWS yellow is just really hard on my eyes somehow, for example). Deeply saturated colours tend to really draw my eye.

Same here. You'd probably like the old University Books RWS (bright turquoises rather than screaming yellows) and the Albano Waite (very saturated, but again, the yellows don't assault the eye.) The Centennial is also bearable, if a bit ho-hum.

Thoth is nice. The gold box minis and the old greenies are my two favorites.

TdM - Yves does the best ones. https://www.tarot-de-marseille-heritage.com/english/index.html

There are a lot of others I like: the Perrin, the Knapp Hall, anything from Baba...

ditto, and with the new card stock that they use, the FM deck is going to be gorgeous 😍

I didn't like the art style of RWS either. Until recently when I purchased a test print revamp deck from one of our member here, she is still working on it but from the test print it looks really promising. Here is a video review of the deck so you can take a look

Hello, I am new to this forum too. My favourite deck is a classic choice, the Marseille tarot because there's a lot o symbology in it.

Another tarot i like is the Robin Wood Tarot.

Hello everyone.

Oh thank you for saying this! Yes the yellows do bother me a bit. The primary colors are a little harsh, I love deeper tones like purples and royal blues, magentas, pinks. I'll take a look at all these decks that have been suggested so far. Thank you all!

I like what they did with the roses & lilies backs.
That's one of @reall's! I have her Pam's Vintage, the old smaller poker size one she used to sell. I like the size. And it's LINEN. 💘
I need another RWS like I need a hole in the head. But if she did this small and in linen, I might not be able to resist...

Oh is that reall's?  PRETTY colors!  I noticed they do look a bit slippery/shiny though.  I also have her Pam's Vintage in the bridge-size IIRC.  And I really love the linen finish.  Quite a subdued color palette as well which I prefer for the SmithRiderWaite.

Okay, so my favourite Tarot deck lies in the future! Isn't it appropriated for a Tarot? 🙂

It will be the Fantastic Menagerie Tarot, I have Great expectations for this one.

Otherwise, I find the mini Morgan Greer in a tin cool; of course other decks are cool too, but these past years my interest in Tarot decks drop a bit and I have been more drawn towards little decks. I still love Tarot decks thougth, but need a "Ah Ah moment" somehow, this sort of thing.

Glad I'm not alone on that one! Looking at the other RWS, it's always amazing to me what a difference the colour makes in the feel of the deck - thanks for the recs.

Favorite tarot decks?

A thread like this shows up quite regularly on the old forums like AT and also now here.

For me it is always interesting to see, what newer readers and newer forum members like and work well with.

For me, having grown up with Tarot on my mother's side of the family the answer has remained the same over the years:

The Greenwood Tarot, the Ironwing, the Tarot of the Origins, and because it is a family tradition going back to my gran who read with it in the late 19-hundreds and through WWII, the Soprafino Tarot.

Tarot of the Origins is being re-released as The Primordial Tarot.  And I have pre-ordered it.

@Mi-Shell  For what kind of readings does it work best for you?

My favorite are Sweet Twilight and Ghost & Spirit Tarot (Lisa Hunt). Sweet Twilight because the images are gorgeous and I’m a fan of surrealism. Also it’s a deck I had since high school so I’m sentimental about it.

Ghost & Spirit Tarot has a funny reason. I’m a fan of Lisa artwork, but this deck just didn’t cut it. I actually dislike it, but it was a Christmas gift from my cousin. Believe me I wanted to give it away, but decided to challenge myself. I bought a 3 ring binder and ended up studying the deck. Next thing I know I began to love it and it was my to go deck. Due to circumstances I sold majority of my decks including this one. Biggest mistake of my life. Irony is I still have that 3 ring binder with all my notes.

@bastetly:I do personal readings with it, I did a Full Moon Circle one here on the forum a few month ago...

I also found out, that men like it!

I do face to face readings and men appreciate the rustic raw characters better than the images in my other decks.

@Cora!

Welcome to the forum!

You should try and get another copy of the deck!

And... iffff you feel like it, we would all love, if you open a thread in the deck study forum and post your thoughts and findings that you wrote into your binder! ♥

Thank you for the welcome ❤️

I do plan in getting another deck, but later on in the future. It’s that I been eyeing a few deck which I plan to get my hands soon. More like when I finally pay off my bills 😂

At Aeclectic tarot forum, I did opened up a study group for that deck under the name Lil Red. But I didn’t had much time to post since I was at school. Also, I admit that it wasn’t top of my priority. Now I wouldn’t mind. Maybe in the future. Moreover I do plan in buying the deck soon.

Aside that, I need to check if the forum has Tarot of the Little Prince. I love the artwork and it’s such a pretty deck 😍

I have a few favourites. The deck I use the most is the Deck of the Bastard. I also like the Rabbit tarot, the Everyday Witch, and the Daniloff is quite cool but I find it hard to read. I have some new decks coming in the mail which I have high hopes for.
