Tarot of the Sidhe - Deck Review

By Jewel

I was ambivalent to write a review of this deck after only spending a month working with it, but the Sidhe told me to so here I am. I can only hope to do it justice.   I was there on Aeclectic when Emily began the journey of creating and was sharing it with us, and purchased my copy as soon as it was published by Schiffer in 2011.  Despite my early love for the deck it was not until recently that I felt its call and fell under its spell.  The Tarot of the Sidhe is not only a work of art, but it takes you on a transformative journey and awakening that I have not experienced with any other Tarot deck.  What Ms. Emily Carding has created is not only a great tarot deck but a portal to the Sidhe.  In close to 30 years of working with the Tarot I have never experienced a deck that communicated with me via Clairsentience (through feelings and emotions) until this deck.

I had found the Basic Tarot, by Gudrun Dobratz, a couple of years ago at a used-book store and was intrigued. However, I did not get around to using it till recently.

The deck was published by Swiss publisher AGMüller (blue-box Thoth Tarot among others), but now seems to be out of print. However, one can still find copies around the Internet, including Amazon, Tarot Garden, Ebay and probably others. New, unopened decks are kind of expensive (on Ebay anyway), but I saw many other listings that are still quite reasonable.

The cards are printed on a good quality stock that is very similar to the old AGM Thoth Tarot. In fact the cards are almost the same size (I think), and at 5 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches are fairly large. The backs are done in blues and are not reversible, showing an image of a statue of a cherub. Though this didn't stop me from using reversals in my readings - you just have to ignore the backs as your shuffling and laying out the cards.

The imag...

The Green Witch Tarot - Deck Review
By Jewel

The Green Witch Tarot, by Ann Moura, was published by Llewellyn in 2015.  It is a Pagan deck based on Green Whitchcraft which is focused on physical realm and the Earth in which the witch lives.  As noted in the introduction of the companion book this deck “… is based on a personal relationship with nature, earth magic, the elementals (earth, air, fire, water) and the power of the immanent Goddess and God in their many aspects, and to the faeries, spirits, and entities of earth, otherworld, and underworld.”  The soul of this belief system and reverence of nature is beautifully captured by the artist Kiri Ostergaard Leonard.

The art of this deck is palpable and draws me into the cards as well as into the meaning of the deck.  It makes me want to go into nature and experience its magic with every part of my being.  The colors are as rich and deep as the context.  One of m...
