For many years I loved my crystals, I have many, crystal balls, raw crystal, rock crystal etc. I was a true advocate of their magickal earthy qualities. That is until I found out about how they came to be in our possession. The whole process of how they are found and extracted from our mother earth, the mother I love so dearly and the one I wished to protect the most with my crystals. I saw how she was raped for her treasures, because you see the crystal trade and the mining companies that are responsible for this…↓ go pretty much hand in hand! Since I found this out I haven’t bought one single crystal, nor will I ever advocate the sale of or influence the buying of ANYTHING with a crystal in it. This includes all prefabricated wands and any other magickal item. Incidentally, whilst I’m on the subject of wands, here is mine ↓ I call her Stick, she was, handpicked by me, she is of the Willow (a tree held most sacred by the Druids for their magickal and life giving properties, in the Druid Ogham they are the true King of trees). You see in our belief system in the North of England, in particular, Yorkshire, we believe that the true magick a wand holds is in the ritual of the cut. This can NEVER be purchased with any form of manmade monetary units of currency. I’m not even sure where this “fashion” for crystal tipped wands came from, (probably the USA as a marketing ploy (Sorry to all our American friends I intend no racism here)) Stick was cut only after I had made peace with her mother tree. I first asked her mother if I could cut from her the small branch which I had chosen to be my wand. I tied a yellow ribbon around the place I was to make the cut and dressed it with earth taken from the base of the tree. I then gave offering to the tree in the form of an orange and a circle of rice placed at the base and sprinkled around the base of the tree. I also offered her some composting leaves that I had gathered from the surrounding woodlands floor. I started this ritual on the first New Moon of the spring equinox and I left the mother like that until the first Full Moon. Under the light of that first Full Moon of the Spring Equinox I made the cut, I took stick wrapped her up in a silk scarf. Gave thanks to her mother, I plastered her wound with dirt and I sprinkled ash from my fire, water from the stream, and more leaves from the surrounding woods around her base and as there was a slight breeze in the air this was an offering of all four elements given back to the tree, Earth, Fire, Water and Air. I took stick home and there I left her hanging until the Summer Solstice and on the night of the solstice I created her and decorated her. There the ritual had completed and her magick was imbued within her forever. So please, we are the protectors of this planet and I for one do not want to play any hand in her destruction. If you love our mother as I do, then please, forget about the crystal. For it brings about nothing but DESTRUCTION! Aeon
