Thanks for bumping this thread. The Yves Burdel is just stunning, isn’t it?

I haven’t had any disappointments with the decks I own by him.

My two current favourites for reading with are the Noblet and a small Japanese version of the Pierre Madenie (I think she may have been influenced by Conver too)- Mamanmiyuki. I find the smaller size of these two suits me better for reading with.

If Yves ever produced a poker sized deck, I’d be all over it.

I think you should get a TDM and work with it , just to see what happens . Go down a new path . Confront limitations . Let the madness flow .  8)

These are the TDM and related decks I've accumulated :

Ancient Tarots of Bologna
Angel Tarot TDM
Tarot de Marseille (Héron)
Tarot Jacques Vieville
Tarot of Marseilles -vintage Grimaud
Vandenborre Bacchus Tarot

I tried the marselles.. back when there was a marseilles forum run by diana. I even brought a marseilles and tried to study it with the only marseilles book i could find. Christisn hemeticism journey into the tarot a study on 22 majors. I only got to the lovets. It didnt cover the pips.  Though looking at them even in comparision when they were described in the qabalistic  tarot by robert wang..
But if the pips minor was wood cut illustrsted by some new artist mean while keeping the mareilles major motiff that could work..i hope major puts Color on that big white space on top on the majors in each card. The one i had had big white space. I forget the name of it now.. lost it in the 2008 move.
I remeber picking on reviews images for it was colorful clear.. but not new things added like the newest versiom at the time.
the card fall where they will, do not blame me the ghost of tarot present.

Maybe you would do better without that sort of study . You like numerology - maybe the pips would work for you using that . But I imagine with so many other exciting decks to choose from it won't be high on your priority list .

Suddenly missing AT, and googled for Tarot forums. Forgot I was a member here 😂

I was just doing an inventory of all my TdMs and feeling the pull to them all over again. I’m looking at two diff books, Tarot on Earth by Tom Benjamin or the new Caitlin Matthews, Untold Tarot: The Lost Art of Reading Tarot de Marseille. Any recs for one over the other would be appreciated. TIA

Yoav Ben Dov's Open Reading is a very good TdM book. I liked it a lot.

Also, you should treat yourself to the Tarology documentary with Enrique Enriquez.

I haven’t read the Tom Benjamin but the Caitlin Matthews book is very solid. It approaches TdM in a more traditional cartomantic way. I think the way she reads Lenormand has influenced her approach to the Marseille decks.

She talks about a few different approaches though and the book has a lot of depth.

Thanks, I have both. And, if I’m not mistaken I think I have your facsimile repro of the Dusserre Dodal, if I’m remembering your AT name correctly.

I am the very same. I think, however, you may be thinking of the Papus.  I didn't repro Dusserre's but made them by request by a fellow in Spain from scans he sent to me from the original book published in, I think, 1909. The gentleman sent me b/w scans from which I made a b/w deck. Then i received requests to make colorful ones, from Papus fans. So I made them. Later I found some Dusserre images online. I noticed that some of the figures that were unclothed in the b/w images were clothed in the Dusserre color versions. Odd.  In the Papus images that I colored, the naked parts are still flesh colored rather than clothed.  :)

I also did a facsimile repro of the Dodal that's in my TheCartomancer store, if you google it. I can't provide a link because I am not allowed to by this forum.

My newest repro, in case you are interested, is Etteilla's Oracle des Dames. That's a really cool deck. And its original size is bridge size! How cool is that?!
