katrinka Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 This one landed in my mailbox yesterday and it's even better than expected. The first spread I did was a general. Hmmm, I should stop putting off going to the dentist. Tooth is the trigger card. Poppet + Devil, I don't think anyone is throwing at me. (I'd expect to see another woo card with it for that - maybe the Candle, Orbuculum [crystal ball] or the Pentagram.) It's about being manipulated by circumstances (no time, etc.) and my own priorities. Water just reminds me of that hose thing they put in your mouth to suck up the saliva while they're working. Blood! Stick! OW OW OW! Sun & Moon, it will work out OK if I do it within a month. Chalice (wow, that's a Tarot-y one) - cartomantically it's the home. I'll have some time off in December, I'll set it up for then. I won't bore you with a complete breakdown of the corners, inner diamond, diagonals, etc. Just wanted everybody to see this thing, what a clear and easy read it is. Mildred's inner landscape. I need to move to a bigger table for this. I think Mildred had mommy issues. ::) The stock is sturdy. A little stiff, but I think it will soften up with use. It's not linen, but it's slippy. All in all good quality. I can't wait until my booster pack gets here! ;D And it's entirely possible that Mr. Valenza may be attempting to create a tulpa. If it works, and you see Mildred, be nice to her. I hear she likes to burn things.
EmpyreanKnight Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 I just woke up, looked at your thread because I thought the oracle name sounded familiar, stared that girl in the eyes, and decided that I may need my morning coffee after all. Mil-dread won't seem out of place in Childern of the Corn or something. Also: the deck itself looks very interesting, like a dark Lenny of sorts.

Mil-dread won't seem out of place in Childern of the Corn or something. She's one of a kind, our Mildred. ;D Also: the deck itself looks very interesting, like a dark Lenny of sorts. That's a very apt description. The deck fills a hole in the market, I think. We see entirely too much treacle and twee. This one is going to be a huge hit, I'm sure. Flood of poor quality imitations coming in 3...2...
katrinka Posted December 5, 2017 Author Posted December 5, 2017 The extra cards have landed. ;D ;D ;D The whole expanded deck reads quite well - Mildred is, as stated in the second video below, "blunt and nosey", and it's fun. And the stuff that comes with it is a blast - the map, with the burning asylum and graveyard, the noose in the tree and the arrow pointing to the coffin - probably Mildred's, but how do we know? Maybe it's the coffin of the person who haunts Claire. Mildred's magical alphabet to decode - if, indeed, it can be decoded. You can see the cards, puzzle backs, bells, whistles and Mildred ephemera here:
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 OMG I so want this deck, katrinka! I just hope that it will be released in a bigger edition someday. My fingers are already cramping just thinking about its current size lol.
katrinka Posted December 5, 2017 Author Posted December 5, 2017 It could happen - Valenza seems to like putting out multiple versions of his decks. Or - it might not. Because then it wouldn't be a pocket oracle. Maybe a larger version could turn up at Fenwood Asylum? We should ask Mildred. ;D
Flaxen Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 I have just ordered this - love Patrick's work and this looks great to read with. You've done a good job selling this, Katrinka.
Akuanduba Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 I have a feeling that they will release more extra cards. Because of the map that is on the back of Mildred's letter. And also they are releasing more of Mildred's story in their website. They just showed a pic of Mildred's house and more on her parents' story and said that "investigation continues". Maybe more 13 cards? This would make a 80 cards deck. What do you guys think?
Flaxen Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 My copy has arrived! I love this deck - Patrick is a creative genius. It reads very well too. :)
katrinka Posted December 11, 2017 Author Posted December 11, 2017 It tells you more than you asked, lol. Mildred is like Italian Sibilla that way, she's gossipy. ;D There is a guy in my area at work with rotten hygiene. He smells. I'm trying to get him out, I complained to a lot of people and finally emailed HR. I asked if he would be out this week. The cards say no, but his feet will hurt like crazy. So if we have to smell him, at least there's an element of schadenfreude.
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Ummm oh no! Has nobody, not even someone in HR, tried to talk to him about it? Like hasn't his boss sat him down and told him - "Dude, what I'm going to say would hurt you a lot now but it'd benefit you long term if you heed it. It's just that you frankly stink, and your *body part* smells like death. Go fix it!" :P
katrinka Posted December 14, 2017 Author Posted December 14, 2017 I don't know if HR talked to him yet or not. The administration lady and our area supervisor talked to him again and he came in with his hair wet the next day. He still stank, and when his hair dried, it was just as filthy as always. It's playing out exactly as the cards state. He's still there. He did call in yesterday, but that's because the bosses were in to do our evals and hand out our gift cards. There was also a free dinner, your choice of ham, turkey, or tamales. (I gave my ticket away, I'm veg.) But he feared that eval. And he didn't want the bosses to see he hadn't bathed. He feared those things enough to call in and miss a free meal and postpone a $50 gift card for the local supermarket. My boss told me that my area would soon be a one person area, and I'd be doing that. I said "No more John?" very hopefully. ;D He repeated "It will be a one person area." ;D ;D ;D A lot of changes happen when we're away for the holidays. So it might be as soon as January. There is also the fact that I took time off between our days off, there's a block of almost three weeks when everything will be up to him. He will have to do the scrap reports, clean, do the paperwork, keep up the board with the hourly numbers, etc. And he won't. Oh, and my email to HR. And complaints from a lot of other people. Looking at the cards in retrospect, it's all there. That Mildred, she KNEW. ;D Definitely a deck worth getting to know backwards and forwards! The Key hints that he'll be gone, but the other cards hint that it won't be in that time period, and that's exactly how it happened. Foot in this deck is about "footing" - stability and balance - not movement (that would be Boot - people are generally shod if they actually go anywhere.) Here, I think it's literal, as well as his footing there being threatened. It's tormented by the Devil and his Pitchfork. Factory could be the actual job. It also hints at "more and more" foot pain. He says he has plantar fasciitis. Maybe he does. Maybe that's a lie, too - he's morbidly obese, that does a number on feet, but I don't feel sorry for him on that account. He eats three lunches at once and drinks three sodas with them. All he would have to do is cut out the sodas and he'd probably drop 100 pounds without doing anything else. There are other people working there who are almost as big. I'm sure their feet hurt, but they don't use it as an excuse to remove their shoes in the cafeteria, pick their feet, and then make a grab for other peoples' chips with their filthy hands. When I did this spread, I posted it on facebook and a friend remarked that it looked like Hotfoot work. But I'm not saying I did that. If I did, I couldn't talk about it.
EmpyreanKnight Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 This deck is now available in a blue Séance Edition with 76 cards. It also glows under black light. Tempting!

I am extremely late to the party here, but should I read it as a Lenormand or Kipper deck with key words and focus on directions (far/near). or intuitive?
