Together, we will look beneath the surface to ensure your mindset, strategies, and resources are beautifully aligned for the months ahead:  This month's suggested spread is "The Master Lens, The Tool, and The Soil" spread by KaiNO: This spread requires a dual-layered interpretation. While the individual card imagery holds the primary answers, you must use the elemental nature of the suit to justify your conclusions.If used for a specific theme, view it as a project roadmap. If used for a general reading, view it as a snapshot of your current life phase, everyday execution style, and foundational energy. Deck Preparation & SetupBefore casting the layout, you must divide your Tarot deck into three distinct, elementally balanced piles. This specific separation forces a dynamic tension between high-level archetypes, mental/active strategies, and emotional/physical resources.  Pile 1: The Master Lense (Major Arcana)Contents: Gather all 22 Major Arcana cards.Purpose: This pile holds the deep spiritual lessons, karmic forces, and overarching mindsets. Pile 2: The Tool (Wands & Swords / Fire & Air)Contents: Gather all Minor Arcana cards from the suits of Wands and Swords (including their respective Court cards).Purpose: This pile represents active movement. As the wheel of the year turns, we find ourselves approaching the Solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, or the shortest in the Southern Hemisphere. During this time we celebrate and reflect on the sun's power and journey, as well as the journey of our own lives.   The Sacred Days of Midsummer reading is a tarot (or oracle) spread to reflect on that journey. This is a 12 day reading, beginning on June 14, with one card drawn for each day to help us walk a sacred path around this powerful time. It can be paired with the Sacred Days of Yule reading in December, for those wishing to anchor the two poles of the year.    Below you will find the 12 spread positions, for the 12 days starting June 14 and ending June 25. Welcome to February (on a very wet January 31st....)  Usual caveats - this is a tarot circle; no oracle decks. No cl;arifiers, no jumpers, no shadow cards. No prior knowledge, no learned alignments, book meanings, chakras, astrology etc. Just look at the PICTURE. Please do not chip in to each other’s threads. These exercises are between the assigned partners only.  And lastly, please post a feedback that does justice to the reading. Even if the reading doesn’t resonate, be kind and refrain from one liner feedback.   We shall focus on the small things that can make a big difference.   You will need a question, or at least a focus.   You will all read the same card, but twice. I will tell you what that card is when I pair you up. You must say which deck you plan to use when you sign up.   When you start your thread, find the designated card in your deck. Then, in your thread, post the image of that card. You will then have two versions of the same card to read.   Looking at both those cards - where are the similarities and differences. What stands out as something that is different or the same in the two cards - what can you see that might suggest a different approach to things; that might suggest small changes that could have a positive effect; what small things might make things go pearshaped ? I thought it was interesting that in the newly released seasons of Orange is the new Black and GLOW, that the main characters in each show have an episode where they get a tarot reading.

(For those who do not know of Ethony, she is a very accomplished professional tarot reader and Youtuber who is also running the Tarot Readers Academy.)    I would very much like to hear what everyone here thinks about this and what your experiences are (it doesn't matter if you've never worked professionally, your thoughts and opinions are just as welcome no matter your circumstances). This video does not contain anything particularly controversial so I am not expecting a wild debate of some sort, just some nourishing discussions :)  Anyways, here are some short notes from her video: (but please watch the whole thing or read her blog post to get a more complete understanding of what she is saying).  5 signs that you are not ready to go pro:  1. You can't deliver hard news. She mentions that people rarely go to tarot readers when things are going great in their life and that hard topics is quite common, in her opinion. That people often come when they are at crossroads in their lives and when they need healing. She also says that you will most probably have to tell people things they do not want to hear and that might crush their hopes about something (like their hopes for a romantic relationship). She also gives some tips on how to practice and prepare yourself for performing tough readings and delivering hard news. She also thinks it is important to think about what types of readings you will take on (like - will you predict physical deaths or talk about serious health issues).   2. You are scared to talk about money. She says that you need to be okay to talk about money, about your rates and so on.   3. You find yourself judging your clients. She says that at one point you are going to hear anything and everything as a tarot reader, and that some of these things will trigger you. Maybe a person is doing something you would never do or have different political views than you. So you would have to be able to put your own personal biases and judgments aside.   4. You have to look up the card meanings in books. Im just gonna quote her on this: "Imagine going to see a doctor and seeing them pull out a book or jumping on WebMD to look for the symptoms you’ve described. Or, turning up to see a lawyer and they don’t know the basics of law. You would not be very happy. Tarot readers are no different. I hear feedback from lots of people that readers in paid readings have brought out books to look things up or have copied and pasted things from websites in email readings. It’s unprofessional. I have a mountain of Tarot books that I still love to read but never while giving a Tarot reading since I went pro. If you are still looking in books or online for the meaning of the cards DURING a session, you still have your training wheels on and it’s time to study more and go pro later."   5. You have no real track record. People need to know that you are trustworthy. And she gives the following tips: "Give lots of free readings. Be reliable. Do what you say you are doing to do when you say you are going to do it. Ask for feedback. Look for ways to improve. Keep learning."  So - what do you guys think? This thread can be seen as an extension of the lovely Creative Tarot Circle that @stephanelli has put together for us.   Here we will however not limit ourselves to things that are tarot related or tarot inspired. Any creative project is welcome and pictures are particularly encouraged 😀.    Think of this thread as a huge  kitchen table where we can hang out, work on our projects and chatter about creative stuff. 1. What's the difference between Lenormand and other divination systems? There are a few key differences. Lenormand cards are read in a much more literal way than other systems. Each card has a number of set meanings, which do not change based on the question being asked. Cards are always read in combinations with each other, not individually as one would do in a tarot or other oracle card reading. The order of the cards can also change the interpretation. It is advised to think of reading a 'string' of Lenormand cards as a sentence, with each card being a word or short phrase within that sentence. Answers from the Lenormand are generally more direct and to the point than other systems. Most importantly: simply using a Lenormand deck isn't reading Lenormand - a Lenormand reading follows the Lenormand method.   2. How should I learn the Lenormand card meanings? First and foremost, choose one set of interpretations, and stick to it until you are very fluent with those interpretations, before trying to learn any others. More is not better when starting out with Lenormand, and over-complicating things often causes a lot of confusion and frustration. Learn the card meanings first individually, and then start playing and practising with pairs of cards, followed by triplets. This will give you a good starting foundation.   3. Which set of interpretations should I learn, and where can I learn them? These are often referred to elsewhere as "traditions" or "schools" associated with a geographic region. EG "French school", "German school", etc. This terminology is somewhat misleading, since sets of interpretations can be traced to individual authors, none of whom are representative of their entire country.  It is strongly recommended to choose ONE set of interpretations when first starting out with Lenormand, and stick with this for some time. The top recommended sources for beginners (written in English) are: 'Lenormand Thirty-Six Cards: An Introduction to the Petit Lenormand' by Andy Boroveshengra 'The Essential Lenormand' by Rana George Hexe Claire's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXpxAm1MRsk-2JkiAnz60hJXqPUgc04d7 The Treppner Lenormand course (now available for free): https://www.spirisfeed.com/lana-download/lenormand-course/   There are many, many other sources of information about Lenormand available, however the resources above are tried, tested and recommended by many readers. Again - stick to one source to begin with.   4. Why are there tiny pictures of playing cards superimposed on some Lenormand decks? Lenormand divination developed from fortune-telling using a Piquet deck - a standard playing card deck with 2's-5's removed, which leaves a total of 36 cards. The card inserts shown on many Lenormand decks correspond with this deck. As well as providing information from the suit (see question 5), they can also help to identify further 'people' cards - i.e. the Jacks, Queens, and Kings.   5. Is there any significance to the suits of the playing cards? Yes! However, these are not interpreted in the same way as they are in popular playing-card cartomancy. This is because they are based on the historic German playing card suits. Very briefly, the suits can be understood as follows (historic German in brackets): Clubs (Acorns)  = Hardship and difficulties Diamonds (Bells) = Risk, changeable luck, gains and losses Hearts = Love, home life, and the paternal line Spades (Leaves) = Growth, happiness, youth, and the maternal line   6. Which Lenormand decks are recommended for beginners? Reproductions of older decks which are ideal for beginners are: Dondorf Brepol's (Carta Mundi) Piatnik Blue Owl Newer decks which are ideal for beginners are: Rana George Lenormand The Maybe Lenormand Green Glyphs Lenormand   The newer decks listed all contain additional cards which can be added to/substituted in the deck, for example additional Lady/Gentleman cards to accommodate readings for same-sex couples. That being said, the standard 36-card deck can also be used by choosing alternative cards (for example, using the Rider to represent another Gentleman).   It's recommended to choose a deck which is poker-sized or smaller, to help keep things manageable once you start laying out the Grand Tableau.   7. Why has someone said my interpretation is "wrong"? It is important to understand that Lenormand has a much tighter set of accepted interpretations for each card, when compared with other systems of divination. Lenormand does not have correspondences with other traditions such as astrology, Qabalah, numerology, etc. (as often seen with tarot decks in particular) - it is a complete system in its own right. There are variations between "sets" of accepted interpretations (see questions 2 & 3), so it is good practise to always state which "set" is being discussed/referred to, preferably by citing your source wherever possible. This will often clear up any miscommunication. After ensuring everyone is on the same page, it should always be kept in mind that some Lenormand readers are considerably more experienced and practised within the system than others. If another reader is advising that an interpretation is "wrong", and gives an explanation of why this is the case, this should be taken as a learning opportunity and not a personal attack. Likewise, if you are offering this type of critique, be mindful that newbies will make many mistakes in their interpretations to begin with. TT&M is first and foremost a learning forum, and we expect and encourage openness and civility on all sides.       With many thanks to @katrinka for her contribution to this FAQ.

Happy New Year !       May it be less fraught than the last one.   And so to business.   In case I need to say it all again - this is a TAROT group; no oracles allowed. No “previous knowledge” stuff; no “cups are feelings, the Empress is pregnant” (which she ISN’T ANYWAY). No “this card aligns with Virgo”.  No “tens are completion”. ABSOLUTELY no extra cards for clarification. Just look at the pictures.   This will be a two day reading. With one card. No question / focus needed, but you can have one if you like.   Pull a single card. Describe  it in the greatest possible detail. How does it feel, smell, sound. What can you see. What can’t you see ?   This card represents 2020 to your sitter. So - what were the issues, the highs, the lows ?   Turn the card face down, and leave it for 24 hours.   Turn it over again and read again - this time representing 2021. What changed ? what emphasis looks different, sounds different, whatever ?   So what can your partner learn from this - anything need doing after 2020; anything particular to watch for ?   OK ? Any questions ? Don’t be afraid to ask. I have become aware recently of how symetrical, left to right, all the minor arcana cards are in this deck. This is nagging at me. Is this incidental?
Does this say something.
 Ps. The symetry seems at odds as well with card meanings, as ofton as not;
for example the 7 of cups, but not the 4 of wands.

I looked through this forum to see if I could find a topic like this but didn't see one. I just thought it might be fun to share what decks we're reaching for lately. What do you keep returning to and why? What deck is drawing your attention right now? Do you think there's a reason?
 
I've been drawn to the This Might Hurt tarot pretty steadily since I received it (last fall) and that's still true now. But I could see how recent events might cause people to reach for something new or familiar or just change things up! So I'm curious. 🙂

I remember on Aeclectic we had a thread where people could post photos of birds, flowers, trees, etc. that they saw on walks in their neighborhood. Perhaps we could start a new one? Before the storm cells came through last Sunday, it had gotten very dry here. I found this fellow trying to drink the dribbles from my sprinkler (first picture taken through a screen):     The rain has caused many flowers to start blooming, like these purple coneflowers:

I have been working directly with quite a few tarot deck makers to organize this event and we are incredibly excited to announce it! Initially it was meant to be an event just for a Tarot Discord server I admin, but because the prize support for this challenge became SO good, I wanted to make it available to other Tarot communities too so these indie deck makers can hopefully get the exposure I think they deserve.
