ReineTdM13 Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Sipa. Arcane Le Soleil What have been your experiences with this card? Does it always show positive meanings as often expected? Or have you noticed that at times it shows more than we can see? As we know it, light can also be blinding, and might as well confuse us. The Sun has recently showed up as the central card during a meditation on a client's relationship. All good, right? Except that this lady had told me that she had been struggling with her marriage for the past year, and that she was already prepared to move out. As I was doing the spread, the first thing that drew my attention was that the hands of the children implied that they were fighting, but codependent (the necklaces that came from The Devil). She reported that everything seemed to be still for the past weeks, but that a few months back they had been fighting because of a female friend of the husband. It was allegedly a long term friendship and they used to hang out by themselves during day hours, everyone knowing about it, but with great distress for the wife. The card was in the position of "what everyone, including the consultant, knows". The card then could imply the other relationship the husband had. She said she wanted to make an "informed decision", that she was reconsidering moving out, because everything seemed to be still. I suggested she seeked emotional help and tried to improve her self-esteem, that the cards should not be responsible for her path. They were just messengers. I wish I had more space to comment on what I have seen of negative about The Sun in other situations and if you like the thread, please share your insights on this card. I'll say other words following.
Misterei Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 (edited) In Vedic Astrology the Sun definitely has a malefic side. Especially in the realm of relationships. It can show someone who's self-centered. Planets revolve around the Sun. The malefic side of Sun people is that they expect everyone and everything to revolve around them. The Sun often appears in this regard when I do a relationship reading and there are negative cards evoking the malefic aspect of the Sun rather than its benefic side. There's a whole lovely Indian mythos about the solar personality ... but a bit too long for a forum post. Edited October 20, 2023 by Misterei

It calls me to take a more close look at Vedic Astrology and I am now interested in that myth of the solar personality. Will look it up. The most common correspondences focus on Western Astrology and forget to embrace the more ancient traditions that have survived until these days. I am already taking a look at your Anastasia link.
fire cat pickles Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Wonderful @Misterei! I love that we have permission with TdM to veer back away from the RWS happy-go-lucky Sun. I think it was Andy who said this Sun can align more so with the Lenormand Sun in that we shouldn't forget that it can also burn and expose as well as nourish. It requires that careful balance. It really is a goldilocks situation. But isn't this what relationships are about? They take work and just the right amount of just about everything.

I read pretty much any deck according to Vedic Astrology ... that's my jam ... so even if I'm using RWS I might read it as a selfish partner in a romance [assuming the other cards support that]. But yes ... I love the freedom and as you say "permission" that comes with using historic decks that pre-date RWS ... MOST of Tarot predates RWS ... yet so many ppl forget that };>

Love the analogy to a goldilocks situation! It kind of invokes the idea of Icarus getting greedy and flying too close to the sun. 23 hours ago, ReineTdM12 said: What have been your experiences with this card? The idea of it blinding us is a great interpretation. In my own experience it all depends on how the card falls as to whether or not it's positive or negative. If it's at the end of a spread of negative cards, then all ends up okay in the end. But if it starts the run of negative cards then all is definitely not okay. It could even be a negative situation we don't see coming if the sun blinds us to it. One interesting take on the TdM Sun card is it could show Romulus and Remus. If that is the case then it could have all sorts of negative/alternative meanings associated to it. Maybe cautioning us about the ego and the quest for glory/attainment. And also the sacrifices we have make to achieve such things?
