Lemon Tart Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Hello TT&M! I was just recommended to your group, I have heard amazing things about it! I was doing a class on Facebook about Lenormand, but the group I was in changed, and I have since been looking for a place to put my posts! I was directed here! <3 Thank you very much for having me! My goal is to help newcomers to Lenormand have a place to start learning, and a nice environment to ask questions! So for today I am posting some general questions I have received in the past, and hopefully giving people a good idea as to what Lenormand is all about! [shadow=red, left]What is Lenormand?[/shadow] Lenormand is a divination system, much like Tarot. It contains 36 different cards, most containing a playing card insert in the picture. These cards have names, from Rider to Cross, and typically have a simple picture of what the card is. Lenormand, while not quite as old as Tarot, has been around since the 1800s. [shadow=red, left]So you read them just like Tarot?[/shadow] Incorrect! Lenormand is also a card divination system like Tarot, but that is pretty much where its similarities end. Cards are read in pairs, you never read a card all by itself. Even a daily draw would consist of 2-3 cards. The meanings of the cards are also pretty strict compared to Tarot. Unlike Tarot, where you can read the image intuitively, to get a different answer than the traditional meaning may imply, Lenormand has set meanings. You don't take the image into account at all! Only the word on the card is really read in a reading. Also, reversed cards are not a thing in Lenormand. [shadow=red, left]Lenormand has cards like the Tower, Moon, Sun, do they have the same meanings as their Tarot counterparts?[/shadow] They do not! For instance, the Moon in Tarot can represent secrets, and the unknown. In Lenormand, the Moon is more a card about recognition, and popularity. If you can, please try to separate what you have learned from studying tarot from lenormand. If you try to read Lennies like you would Tarot, you could wind up VERY confused. [shadow=red, left]So what is the Playing Card insert for?[/shadow] Good question! Back when this deck was first being made, it was based off an old deck of cards that was meant to be a "One sized fits all deck" It was made for a game, and had playing card inserts added in so it could be used as a traditional playing card deck, as well as a divination deck. The Card inserts stuck, and are now referenced in most decks. Some people use them who have studied reading with playing cards, but most now just use them to identify cards with a court card on them (as they can represent people) Or use the red and black cards for yes/no questions. [shadow=red, left]So why would I want to Learn Lenormand?[/shadow] Lenormand is a fantastic and fun way of divination. Mastering this system is a great way to get quick, but very detailed information. A lot of people say that Lennies are a "down and dirty" way to get answers. While Tarot is good for emotional readings, Lenormand is good for the more day to day answers. This is also a great deck for decision making, and for yes/no answers! You can also COMBINE them with your Tarot/Oracle cards, to get even more detail on a situation. Also, the decks are usually pretty small, making them super portable, easy to carry in your pocket or purse! :D [shadow=red, left]OMG This sounds AMAZEBALLZ. How can I get started?!?![/shadow] My favorite place to start is cafelenormand.com They have a list of meanings, spreads, and recommended decks to get you started! I am also personally a fan of Rana Georges Essential Lenormand. It is a great book with everything you need to get started reading! ♠️♥️♦️♣️ Please feel free to ask any questions here, and I will be happy to answer them, or direct you to a place that does have the answers! Let's talk Lennie! I love my Lenormand cards!
Em Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Hi Lemon Tart. Thank you so much for joining Tarot, Tea and Me! It is great to have you here! :-* And also I think I found the right person :P I was a member of another tarot forum which is about to close. I had several Lenormand readings done there and I am surprised how accurate they were. I don't own a deck but hoping to buy one soon and learn them. I find the vibe of Lenormand is more positive than tarot cards (e.g. 10 of swords, 3 of swords, 9 of swords etc...). Love to learn it! I do have a question already :D, which deck should I buy as a beginner? I mean for tarot readers, their first deck should be RW based, since most learning materials are RW based too. How about Lenormand? Edit: I checked the price on Amazon, it seems Lenormand cards are more affordable than Tarot cards :o

Edit: I checked the price on Amazon, it seems Lenormand cards are more affordable than Tarot cards :o Thank you so much! I am glad to be here! One thing I LOVE about Lenormand is that the meanings are very strict, unlike Tarot, where you can be a bit more intuitive and flexible with your interpretations. Because of this, any deck will work! As long as you can tell that the Fox card is the Fox, the Birds are Birds... ect. It will work! I personally prefer decks with the card number listed on it. I don't work with card inserts as much, but it is nice to have for some additional information! :) If you want some specific recommendations, Cafe Lenormand has some GREAT referrals! http://www.cafelenormand.com/best-beginner-lenormand-deck/ I love Lenormand so much! I do use it more than Tarot, but I love combining Tarot and Lenormand together! :)
Em Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Wow! Thank you so so so much the info! OK, I purchased my first deck which was recommended on the web site :D https://www.amazon.co.uk/Under-Roses-Lenormand-Kendra-Hurteau/dp/1572817607 It only cost £9 includes delivery! Because I will be away next week, I hope the deck will arrive after I come back from the trip! So happy to have you here. I always wanted to learn Lenormand but don't know where to start with, but since you are here... 8)
Lemon Tart Posted July 13, 2017 Author Posted July 13, 2017 You are welcome! I was planning on doing maybe a daily post here, going over each card and how to read them, then maybe doing some example readings to help get some practice! Do you think that would be okay to do here? :) Under the Roses is a great Lenormand deck! I love that it gives you an extra man, woman, and child card, so you can change the race, or swap out genders for a homosexual couple! Sadly my decks don't have that feature :(
Em Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Of course, Lemon! Please. This is what this section of the forum for, share knowledge, discuss or talk about anything to do with Lenormand. it would help me to learn the cards too.
Lemon Tart Posted July 13, 2017 Author Posted July 13, 2017 You got it! I will be making my posts here then! I am glad that I can post them again! I was so worried I wouldn't find a place to post them! :(
Em Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 You got it! I will be making my posts here then! I am glad that I can post them again! I was so worried I wouldn't find a place to post them! :( You said you were doing a class on Facebook. I wonder if your students know where you are as well? It might be a good idea if they can continue with their classes here too.
Lemon Tart Posted July 13, 2017 Author Posted July 13, 2017 Yes, I have directed them here! Hopefully they will join in on the discussion! :D
Em Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Great to have fellow students joining me :P Thanks again, Lemon. Looking forward studying Lenormand (well, when my deck arrived).
Pixna Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 Thank you so much for starting this thread, Lemon Tart! I am new to Lenormand (but not to Tarot or card reading) and am very excited about learning it. A couple of quick questions for starters: * Can the playing card references essentially be ignored other than maybe using them for yes/no questions (as you mentioned)? I find them a bit confusing and don't really know how to put them to good use other than yes/no questions. * Do the cards' numbers mean anything in Lenormand? Is there a reason they are arranged in that particular numbered order?
