AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Don't want to use this as an oracle. Sweets + sideways diamond, dark left Mains + circle w/black top half Drinks + on-point square dark bottom (I think this is cups) Sides + Circle with lower right quarter dark. Majors + 2 overlapping red boxes. How would you identify the suits? all have 4 courts and 10 cards. emailed the artist, no response LWB is hilarious, but no help there.
gregory Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Seems to me we got an answer on AT way back when.... Here's the thread there: https://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=252885 Girl Archer wrote to the artist: I wrote to Josh LaFayette who told me this deck was meant to be for fun, mostly non-divinatory purposes, and that while he did study up on the RWS system, his deck isn't RWS compliant. It is flexible and the suits can be what we want them to be. So I am thinking, Drinks = Cups Sides = Wands Mains = Swords Sweets = Pentacles and then I chipped in: Suits - I stick with cups as drinks - though the two needs a second straw. I LOVE the 5, as I DETEST cola. I like pents as mains. Heavy, earthy, the MEAT of it all. The 5 is priceless - Chinese food does leave you empty and lacking,. I also like sides as swords. I'm fine with the bacon- even with its title. The 3 could even suggest the agony of Delhi Belly.... and the 5 works for me - refried is another thing that does NOT appeal ! the 7 - broccoli - trapped wind ? and the 9 - blanco dip is a nightmare for me, so, fine. So I am left with wands for sweets - and that works too. The upright ace breeding chocolate buttons in its new growth., The 5 with a HOLE PUNCHED through it. The 6 looks very celebratory, and the 10 - with the hefty pan (load) you can use to bop a burglar over the head - what a BURDEN. and Josh signed up to say: tl;dr: the Food Fortunes suits don't match up with the RWS suits, but I'm totally loving everybody making it fit anyway!

Gregory, I like how you see the suits but I also like the Sweets as Swords because of the head trips good vs poor eating can cause and Sides as Wands because a side dish can be nibbles and active finches hop and nibble and remind me of the suit of Wands. ::)
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted June 2, 2018 Author Posted June 2, 2018 thank you Gregory. I should have looked there, but it makes me almost sick to think about AT after mulling it in the back of my mind all day and thoth order vs rws order, I've chosen Drinks = Cups Sides = Swords Mains = Wands Sweets = Coins thanks for the input! Love the cardstock
gregory Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 I am desperately grateful to Solandia for leaving so much of it still up there. I use it frequently.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted June 5, 2018 Author Posted June 5, 2018 a note from Josh yesterday, I'm having fun with the deck -------------------------------- Hi Sharyn, Haha thanks for getting in touch about this! The short answer to your question is that Food Fortunes doesn’t sync up with the traditional/RWS tarot canon. It’s a novelty deck and was made to be a bit of fun for people who had no experience with tarot, but I’ve talked to several tarot readers who say they love to use the deck to sharpen their intuition. HOWEVER! There have been some very compelling arguments for the suits actually matching. I did an interview with Vix at New Age Hipster and we touched on this. You can read that here: http://www.newagehipster.co/blog/2016/4/23/an-interview-with-josh-lafayette-creator-of-the-food-fortunes-deck Let me know if I can answer any other questions. Thank you! —Josh
