Birdie Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 I've been working on this deck on and off for years. My work-work keeps getting in the way but I finally have some time to really finish this project. You can see the cards I've painted and complied (with digital mock-up numbers and rounded corners) below. The moon card and heart card are finished but I am re-painting them. After some absence, I've looked at them and I'm not very pleased with how they came out. So, try try again, as they say. Feedback would be appreciated. Do you like the simple borderless design? No titles or card inserts, just numbers? Are the colors ok? I planned on making each card vary slightly in background color, from more muted yellow/brown to more vibrant yellow to green. I wanted that variation to reflect the hand-made nature of the cards. They are all painted in gouache on cold press paper. Also, are they clear? Do you think you could read with these cards? Thank you so much for taking the time to look and give feedback!
reall Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Wow! must say this looks absolutely beautiful! one of best Lenormands I've seen so far!:) Luv background color & vintage art style!:) all cards looks easy to recognize & simple to learn/read so i'm sure Lenormand readers wil appreciate!:) my only remark is from my own *Lenormand creator experience; 1) numbers should be on top/not bottom as tradition is top & most deck do it that way so people who read Lenormand are used to look up for numbers!?:) also some decks put it in corner & it looks really nice!:) i.e Middia Lenormand 2) direction of scythe & key is traditionally bit different(see my Ancient Lenormand for idea:) 3) imo art for tree should be moved bit down so tree wont be cut & we get to see more of tree & less of ground?;) & mountain should be lifted up to give idea about hi perspective?:) btw card size looks bit odd so be sure you are ussing correct card templates?:) best download from gamecrafter page!^^ https://help.thegamecrafter.com/article/39-templates ( those are universal & work with all pod!^^;) will post if I remember anything else!:) just remember key of success is to not give up & finish what you started!XD keep up with great work & feel free to ask me if you need any help with design/publishing etc I'm pro selfpublisher by now!^^ lol
Birdie Posted July 5, 2018 Author Posted July 5, 2018 Thank you reall! That is a lot of really great advice! I will play around with number placement. I think I definitely want it centered but I may move it to the top as you suggested. I don't mind the key or scythe being non-traditionally orientated. I agree with the tree and mountain, and I will certainly consider re-painting them. As far as card size, this is a quick mock up just using pictures from my phone lol. The cards will certainly be more uniform once they are scanned properly, and I'll crop or resize as needed. Thank you so much for your expertise! It is very nice to get feedback from a seasoned card creator! : D
reall Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 ok!^^ happy to help especially to people who appreciate my *pro critic skill! so just ask if you need more of that!XD lol imo it will look great with numbers on top! & you don't need to repaint anything (much!)^^ just be sure to use right card template imo bridge is best as it can easy resize to mini Everyone luv!:)
Birdie Posted July 5, 2018 Author Posted July 5, 2018 Oh, and thank you reall for sending the template links! I have already played around with fitting my images to them in photoshop and they are really helpful! I think my images will work out just fine for the bridge size, which I do plan on using. I remember thinking about sizing as I was painting but that was so long ago I can't be sure XD. A mini size would be really fun : D
HOLMES Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 have you considered kickstarter to get additional funding to get it published.. I was looking at kickstarter and one person had an awesome lenormand and was charging 50 for it. your images are clear ,, that is great,, I know in my one card I thought I was reading clouds for the mountain had clouds above it til I looked up the number and saw it was mountain.. anythought to title besides the number ? I know it looks uncluttered however perhaps it could work. umm i love the broom but i found it confusing besides the whip.. at first glance i thought it was the broom card.. eheh.

Page of Ghosts Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 I'm not super familiar with Lenormand (sometimes I dabble in it) so I can't comment too much on specifics like others in this thread, but the artwork itself is superb <3 It's very clear and obvious what card I'm looking at since you're not going with a too whimsical or "artsy" approach in your composition, but it still looks fun and cute ^-^
Birdie Posted July 6, 2018 Author Posted July 6, 2018 HOLMES: Thanks for your comment! I don't think I want to start a Kickstarter until all the cards are finished. It's more of a personal project that I'll "just so happen" to publish one day lol. 50 sounds so much for a little Lenormand. I was thinking of charging around $20-$30, just as a guess-tamite. The sky gradient above the mountain is not meant to read as "clouds". Hopefully that's not a pervasive issue. reall: Thank you!! Page of Ghosts: Thank you so much! That's exactly the impression I wanted for this deck : D
