Bodhiseed Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 From Place's newsletter: I have been working on a new Tarot deck that is my interpretation of the traditional French Tarot of Marseilles. I am focusing on the figures on the cards and redrawing them in my style. From the beginning of my involvement with the Tarot I have been guided by my insight that the traditional Tarot trumps may be correlated with the stages of the Alchemical Magnum Opus, and this deck will also include alchemical symbols on each trump card that relate each one to a stage in the Great Work or Opus. But I have also stated from the beginning that the connection between the Tarot and alchemy was not intentional. The relationship happens because both alchemy and the Tarot are based on Hermetic philosophy. They have a common philosophical source. So I have decided that this deck will illustrate both the Tarot’s and alchemy’s connection with their Hermetic source. I am including a quote on each trump from the original 1st to 3rd century Hermetic texts, known collectively as the Hermetica. It is amazing for me to see how well the Hermetic quotes describe what is symbolized by each card. Here is the updated Fou and the Bateleur cards.
