Pritam Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 Study of the Osho Zen Tarot Cards issued in 1994: Osho was an unconventional Guru. His ideas were based on a liberal version of Zen Philosophy. Too liberal some say. He nevertheless had a huge fan following. He was literally deported from the US and set up his Ashram in Pune, India - that is where he died and I currently live. He is no more but has many followers from throughout the world. A set of new Tarot cards based on his philosophy were issued in 1994 after he had passed on. The version is gaining in popularity and usage. I am coming on to 85 years of age and have been practicing reading of Tarot cards since the age of twenty. I started with the original Rider Waite (which I still use) and have recently started using the Angel Tarot cards by Doreen Virtue and Radleigh Valentine, as well as the Tarot Illuminati conceived by Erik Dunne. I have studied the Pros and Cons of each of these packs and compared it with the Osho Zen pack. All of them are merits and I would choose the pack to be used, depending on the nature of the querant and his/ her queries. I have also done research on how to best represent the querant. I would like to share my views and solicit views of others from the Tarot Community.
Symph Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 I made a post about this deck, it went in a very different direction than I had expected. When I first got the Osho deck, I knew nothing of this man, I just knew I loved Taoism and I loved the pictures. Once I had posted my thoughts about the deck, people began alerting me to the idea that this man was very controversial, some even told me things about him that sounded terrible and suddenly I became weary of the deck, a whole conversation about whether or not using the deck was ethical ensued, some people said they gave their's away because of Osho's behavior, others said we shouldn't let a person's character affect if we use a deck or not. I personally haven't touched the deck since then, (partially just because I stopped practicing Tarot for a while and now I'm focused on learning RWS, but also because of feeling torn over the deck) I'm glad you brought it back up though, before anyone had told me anything about Osho, I LOVED that deck, I loved the book that came with it, I loved the meanings of the cards, I now find it to be a bit too straight forward for highly intuitive readings, but it's still a beautiful deck. I might just start playing with it again, it definitely has a cool vibe and now that I'm a little more confident in myself I think I can agree that one shouldn't allow knowledge about a person or things you hear about someone stop you from using a deck or anything for that matter that resonates with you. If you like it, you like it, and that's just fine in my opinion.
Pritam Posted February 23, 2020 Author Posted February 23, 2020 I understand where you are coming from. He got some very bad publicity - some of it maybe justified but it was blown out of all proportion by the media. We need to look at the balance sheet. He brought far more good and tolerance with his philosophy. I use him quite a lot - the cards are refreshing and many times bring new insights to the table.

I didn't know enough about the situation to really be coming from a place of knowledge on it, I only had hearsay to go on, but I had this feeling inside like "I'm sorry but such beautiful sentiments and ideas just could not come from a completely polluted well", it's nice to hear someone confirm that this may indeed be the case. 🙂
Arania Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 I have to say I never ever care about the reputation of whoever created a deck. And the Osho Zen is among my fav decks. I haven'tused it much in years though, but then I didn't do much with Tarot for a while.

Pritam Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 On 7th April, I did a 6-card Tarot reading using the Osho Zen Tarot Deck pertaining to the current Coronavirus scenario. The results were as follows: Current Status: 'Aloneness' followed by 'The Dream'; Intermediate upto One year: 'Change' and 'Transformation'; Final Outcome: 'Morality' followed by 'Celebration'. A very interesting draw, I thought. Would like to discuss
GeoLund Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 Hello everyone! I just found and joined this forum today and this is my very first post! After I typed that, I realized I should find the intro thread and properly say hello to the entire group - but I did want to say that I love the Osho Zen Tarot Deck and I don't care what bad things folks may have to say about Osho. He didn't create the deck and the art is amazing. I'm a beginner so it's over my head for now, but I was hoping to connect with others who also like it. Is it possible to message people here without being a paying member? I'd love to chat with Pritam, Arania and Symph. Are any of you still around or active here? I hope so! Geo

Yes it’s possible to message people once you’ve reached 5 posts. But bear in mind that many people feel awkward about having complete strangers contacting them privately. It’s best to get to know people in the threads first. We also have strict rules around anything promotional that might take place through PM. No trying to recruit people for whatever purpose, or to ask for help with readings etc. 🙂
