In the Book of Thoth, Crowley is specific in that the word "Worry" used is the old sense in that it is an old verb meaning "to strangle:" "[See Skeat, Etymological Dictionary. The idea is of strangling, as dogs worry sheep." It has nothing to with the emotion of fretting over something: https://archive.org/details/etymologicaldict00skeauoft/page/718/mode/2up -

Here are the core cards of this decan, my birth decan and anniversary decan for my tarot calendar - I started in 2017. Here are my Hierophants: And here are my Five of Pentacles: The Empress is there because I made the transition and the pictures on Friday. My deck group: Inner Child-affine decks. And here is the whole thing: Over in my journal, I thought about the connection between Taurus, Venus and the Hierophant - the overlaps, the inner inconsistencies. Venus/Aphrodite is a free spirit, sensuous and anti-dogma. Hierophant is about tradition, respect and adhering to your roots. Taurus has both sides. We're in Gvurah, the sephirah associated with Mars, so we're in a bit of a planetary mishmash. Mercury rules the decan, Venus the zodiac sign, and Mars the sephirah. They don't work together too smoothly. I also have the feeling that Gvurah in the world of Assiyah is not the best fit. We're in a fixed sign, an Earth sign, so this is a pretty static mise-en-scene. But Mars wants to move decisively, and Mercury wants to move quickly. But their energies are bound by all this fixed Earthiness. All this energy turns into a difficult inner state of wanting to do something without really knowing what and how. Maybe that's how the Worry aspect develops. In the classical RWS image, there is worry, and there is care for each other. In German, the word Sorge means both worry and care. And the light radiating from the stained glass windows is such a sign of hope. We have to wait until our insight comes, and we can find a way to let our energy work. Interestingly, it's the lunar-solar powerhouse of the next decan that will allow us to step from worry/care to actual care for others and ourselves. Intuition, not intellect, will help us from this rut. The Tarot of the Divine uses the image of the Little Match Girl from Andersen's sad, sad fairy tale. We can hope that the window is not opaque - that there is someone on the other side who can SEE the girl and help her. I so want a good outcome for the girl. And for everybody else. -

Thanks for sharing! This arrangement reveals a lot, even in the good old Thoth! I just replicated it but swapped the V and I positions. Interestingly, I chose a different Magician than usual. The one I used before feels too mercurial to me—in the sense that this is the main vibe he gives off: jolly curiosity. The other one brings in some manic focus. They don't just have the tools floating around them for potential use—they actually grab them in no time. Movement is less physical/spatial and more energetic. I also like that there is more ambiguity when it comes to the Magician's sex. The sex isn't muddled but covered. Nobody’s business. The 5 of Pentacles looks like a construction site to me. Are those yellow-orange/violet nozzles filling funnels? Is the construction of the basement behind? That surely would be reason to worry! The lower pentacle needs more support. An engineer is needed to bring the matter under control. Or was it the engineer’s fault to begin with? The engineering spirit. Whether it's an IKEA shelf or an airport, materialising an idea inevitably reveals its flaws—the predetermined breaking point, or Sollbruchstelle, the elemental rift. What’s left is a yearning for perfection. How can the Hierophant satisfy this longing? By being the screen onto which we project our beliefs? There is always something hollow about the Hierophant for me. The cherubim masks reflect this back to me. Here is a façade, a system—fill it with whatever you like and stick to it. Design your own heaven on earth. Become free by losing yourself in routine. -

Oh, I wasn't actually referring to the season! I started a new project in March, and I feel its progression is in alignment with the decans' energies. I would feel the same way if the leaves turned red and fell from the trees. -

Added Tabula Mundi's 5 of Disks and two related majors. I love the way that in TM, you see the Magus DJ's sound board paired with the Hierophant's pillars, elephants, and key together on the 5. And illustrated in a way that shows how they come together to form the keyword 'Worry' in the Thoth. 'Material Trouble' in the GD. The whole deck is like that, and having it as my main reading deck for years, caused me to memorize the planetary decan rulers without really trying. -

Beautiful card. Collage tends to be hit or miss with me, and your Emperor is definitely a hit. The content too. The meaning behind the penguin fathers makes it well rounded too. I’m not really a fan of Emperors (and Hierophants) that only show negative aspects. Anyway thanks for sharing your art! -

I like that. Can’t do it myself without flipping to the opposite side of the tarot Decan wheel for autumn since I’m in the southern hemisphere. I’m glad the 3rd Decan was an improvement over how the 2nd felt. 😀 -

Yes, below the Abyss. And well said for the rest. Using the metaphors Crowley does, the energy of Chokmah in the womb of Binah gives birth to Chessed. Birth being Completion while also just the beginning of the material journey to Malkuth. (If we want to get into this stuff in more depth than the astrology/Jupiter, we should start a thread in chat (or a journal) for the non-Decan info.) -

Hi everyone! Longtime forum lurker here but I'm also doing this 2025 decan walk so I figured this would be a great time to jump in and say hi! I was doing a search for decan start and end dates for this year and came across a pdf with the exact dates on a calendar but I can't post a link for some reason. Looks like today the sun is moving into Taurus at 12:56 pm PDT (according to my WeMoon calendar 😁) so we definitely know that today is the first date of Taurus I! I can't attach a file or image either so idk how to share the calendar I found with y'all 😔 Ok so I bought a subscription to the forum for support and voila! the ability to attach files appeared! Let me know what y'all think! You can download the free Moon Calender here -

03: Aries 3 from April 11 - April 19 (4 of Scepters) Venus is in her detriment in Aries, meaning that she can't reach full potential in this sign. And the Fours indicate the establishment of effort, only a beginning. Both masculine and the feminine are needed to culminate anything of significance. Venus' full power may be stunted unless she can bring her full support. What we have left is brute force. In the Book of Thoth, Crowley says that this card the "bears in itself the seeds of disorder" due to lack of female energy. What we have remaining is "completion and limitation." This highlights the masculine (completion) and feminine (limitation) dichotomy. Crowley points out that Venus in Aries manifests "without tact and gentleness;" Smith and Alsop see this Venusian inequality as "lust," in other words, the inability for Venus to balance Aries' power. -

I started my tarot calendar in Taurus 2017, eight years ago!. I didn't only take pictures but also started a Powerpoint presentation, just for myself, to have a good overview. It's just for myself, and I enjoy walking back in time. It also helps me see which deck groups have appeared in which zodiac signs already, so it's useful. I also make comparisons of all kinds - it's a real study tool. So here are some of my Imperial musings. I went back in time to look at the Emperors. (Yes, I could have gone back to the individual pictures, but using the PowerPoint is easier...it's all in one place there). So in 2017, there was no Aries board; I started in my birth decan, the 1st decan of Taurus. But for all the years after that, I have looked at different Emperors. always remembering that this is a difficult card for many tarot creators. Of course, it's always possible to use the RWS formula: a formidable older man, sitting rigidly on a throne, surrounded by the insignia of worldly power. Another possibility is a historical depiction - like Lösche did in the Cosmic Tarot. He chose to use Charlemagne's golden portrait, and knowing that the artist grew up in Aachen, the place where Charlemagne ruled (and where I grew up, too), gives even more significance to this choice. In Aachen, Charlemagne is absolutely everywhere. Sitting in one of Aachen's ancient pubs, the Golden Swan, you see Charlemagne's statue from the window. It's the closest you can get to medieval Imperial glory, I guess. It's part of my childhood, and I get nostalgic when I look at the pictures... The Tyldwick Tarot used a famous bust of the wise Emperor Marcus Aurelius to show another side of the Emperor - he is a philosopher and tries to do good in this world. Medieval emperors like Charlemagne saw themselves as following in the footsteps of Rome, so we're going back in time. There is of course, going back further, the ideal that Roman Emperors tried to emulate is Zeus/Iupiter, the benevolent but unpredictable source of power in the heavens. This is where the Tarot of the Holy Light is going. Or you can look for alternative ways of presenting male power. The Ostara Tarot and the Children of Litha Tarot show the physical power that lies at the root of male supremacy. You can take the Emperor to task for patriarchy. There is something frightening about male dominance based on physical power and the will to use it. The ambivalence of the Emperor stems probably not only from the fact that he is One who has Power, and we are Many who don't have Power, but whoever grew up with an authoritarian father knows how that feels. I see the pairing of Aries/Emperor as an expression of this ambivalence. It's not fixed Leo, the king of animals, who is associated with the Emperor (although in the Cosmic Tarot, this is the constellation chosen for the Emperor). it's the ram, Aries, powerful enough but not as awe-inspiring as the mighty lion. Here is my own Emperor. There are three versions of medieval Emperors - a stained-glass window, the top of Charlemagne's head, and the imho gorgeous equestrian statue from Bamberg, torn from a very old book about German art. There's also Jupiter and three old playing cards for the decans. But actually, for me the most important image is the penguin, because he's a good and caring father. I don't want to live in a world where the Emperor protects the Empire against us, the people, especially those of us who need protection. My vote goes to the Emperor who protects the people in his Empire. Well, there haven't been too many historical examples of that kind of Emperor. So all power to the penguin.
