Good morning! I am new here and signed up to ask a specific question!

I am new to tarot, and really enjoy its ability to allow for self-reflection in particular. I'm just bumbling through the readings, but they do tend to shine a light and I have been very taken aback by some of the eerily on-point cards coming up!

To my question - this morning I did a simple 3-card reading, and while I was pulling the cards and during the reading itself I got the unmistakable scent of incense wafting through the room. I hadn't lit anything, and this was so strong that I ended up running around the house and garden trying to source it. I could only smell it in the room but it was powerful enough to make me wonder if that is some sort of signal of anything more than my brain playing tricks!

Thank you for any insight.

Hello and welcome 🙂

Do you keep incense in the house at all? If yes, was it your own incense that you could smell or a different one? I like to have a stick in the holder unlit, I can sometimes smell it quite strongly. No idea why that happens sometimes, weather maybe? Also, I'm female and my own sense of smell-sensitivity changes during a cycle. Sounds odd, but there are days that I'm much more sensitive. Smells can travel surprisingly fast and far! When I lived with my mum in a 4th floor flat I could tell when the postie had been because I could smell his aftershave from the letterboxes outside on the groundfloor wafting all the way up into her kitchen window.

Else... is there such a thing as clair-smelling???

Thanks for the welcome!

Great point - I walked over to have a good smell of the incense I DO have! It was certainly different, mine is quite sweet and this smell was much more woody. I do have incense (unlit) in my room though, so perhaps something to do with that. It was just so potent that it feels like it was more than that, although perhaps a more keen sense of smell due to cycles might be an interesting thing to think about!

A relative who was in my home recently remarked on a powerful smell of incense. No-one else could detect it. I hadn't been using any for a while, though when I passed him my burner, he said it was the same (nag champa, what else !) Maybe it's a residual smell from ages ago

I would also point out - don't have a fit - that there is such a thing as olfactory hallucination - particularly common before a stroke, though that's usually - for some reason - the smell of toast.

Funnily enough there is, clairalience.

A friend of mine will smell a particular brand of tobacco whenever her deceased grandfather is around.

Do you associate that particular type of incense with anyone deceased @hgwells? If you do that could be their way of letting you know they're around...

Mundane explanation could just be that there is fabric in the room that's holding the scent and just chose to release it then - and scents can change over time.
