Penthasilia Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 I have the Vachetta and love it- the card stock is amazing for riffle shuffling and it is a beauty. I also have the Soprafino- beautiful, but not the same card stock. For those who have other decks from them- any of the other decks with similar card stock to the Vachetta? I am pondering the Besacon but don't want to get another (I have a couple copies) unless it is the sublime stock. Also curious on the small Visconti. I am such a sucker for card stock- for all the decks I own there are still only a handful I enjoy shuffling, and hence using.

I just went through my meager collection of Il Meneghellos. and I'll list them here. Besides the Soprafino and the Vachetta, there are: La Corte Dei Tarocchi - I adore this one. But alas, like the Soprafino, it's stiff. I've had it for years and used it quite a bit - this stock does not soften up with use. Sibilla Originale 1890 - Not a Tarot, obviously. I mention it here because it does riffle - but for some reason, they chose glossy stock. It reminds me of polaroids. I wish they'd do a non-glossy edition. Tarocco Neoclassico - Lovely, but another stiffie. Mitelli Gioco di Carte del Passa Tempo - Also not a Tarot, and stiff. But interesting. And I have a tiny, almost postage stamp sized Minchiate from them someplace . Not an easy shuffle. BUT - if you can track down the Tarocco di Marsiglia (actually a Swiss "Marseilles"), it has the flexibility of the Vachetta, and it's very lightly plastified. It shuffles like a dream. That's the thing with IM, you never know what kind of stock you're going to get. I'm sure others here have tons more decks and could tell you more. ************************ ETA: If you're just looking for a workhorse Bensancon that riffles well, Patrick still has these:https://deviantmooninc.com/products/the-resurrected-kirchnerbesancon-tarot-1850 Edited August 12, 2020 by katrinka
Penthasilia Posted August 13, 2020 Author Posted August 13, 2020 Thanks @katrinka I had the marsiglia and didn't like the lamination- though agreed it was easy to shuffle. I also tried asking Christina and didn't really get a straight answer so tried putting it in the way of emphasizing the card stock again so shall see. The Vachetta is such a dream to shuffle, that may be it. I probably shouldn't be greedy!

I know what you mean about the Vachetta, it is beautiful card stock in every way!! The Besacon is stiff but still that lovely papery stock, similar to the Neoclassico. I don't know about the Visconti. The only Meneghello deck I have that compares to the Vachetta is the OOP Tarocco di Bologna, bendy and buttery but hard to find 😞. Have I just sent you on a new hunt? 😉

And yes- but a slow hunt. 😄
53rdspirit Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 I took out my Il Meneghello Besancon and Soprafino and they are of the same rather stiff cardstock. I would not dream of riffle shuffling either one (but I don;t riffle anyway) and they both have those square corners, too.
kudos91 Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 I have the feeling they don't use playing card stock, just ...normal thick carton for most of their decks. It is actually not really a surprise if you consider they are actually more artist than tarot user so they might consider their deck more as art print ...
