The Metaphorical Tarot

I rather fear that might be a bit busy round the edge of your images and detract from them ? Just a thought. I'd much rather see a plain border so that I can focus on the images. (There is also the issue of the printing; so often the very edges of borders are lost in the cut anyway, and with a fancy border that would look very much more noticeable. )

You could always test print a couple of cards yourself to see how you like it. If you feel that it ends up looking too busy you could do something like a black border with a thin gold line closest to the artwork. Or black border with titles in gold. I think that could look match the back design really well. But I am sure you have already tested it and know what you like!

So I've been doing all of the sewing by hand, no machine. But now my hands are sore and achey so I need to figure out my mom's sewing machine (we lost her last April 1st). It sure would be faster! Need to redo the border I made, it was just a mess, ugh.

Actually I did the border thing with experimental images and I did like it, I printed out the back but nothing else yet. Good suggestions, and I'd love metallic gold to be used! When I have a completed image I'll print it out and see how it looks. I have to order gold leaf (24k) to make the crown, scepter and shield. Be back soon!

Here's an experiment, her scepter. I have no glue here except for the hot glue gun and I really need superglue. Just wanted to see how it looks, gonna redo it when I have some. There will be 10 of these for the Wands cards and I'm calling the suit Scepters. This is the border I need to replace haha.

I have leather coming for her shoes. I have to have my packages addressed to my address in the country. When I've been gone from my apartment at home everything has been stolen off of my porch. I'm staying in the country because of covid so it'll have to be this address for a while anyway but yeah I have a porch pirate and several things have had to be replaced including the leather. Who knows what this person is doing with my craft supplies etc. Been costing the vendors money!

I have stuff I need back home that I can't get there for it until the 2nd so I don't know how much I can do to show here. I also get my money on the 1st and I'll be buying stuff after that. Be back soon!

OK so my gold leaf came! Excited! Also my expensive tailor shears and the tights to make hose. I want to work on the Empress' crown but I've had an infected finger for like 3 weeks and it's bandaged up. Taking antibiotics for it and when I can take the bandage off I'll make the crown. Waiting for what I'm replacing that border on the dalmatic with too. I should be able to post a new pic by the end of the week.

OK so it's been awhile! I've been working almost the whole time. I have her crown gilded and ready to paint with the enamel but I don't have my fine brush with me, getting it Sunday probably. Then the gemstones. I've also been working on her dalmatic and I don't have enough ribbon so I'll have to order more. I'll be back when I have photos.

I look forward to those pictures and I hope your infected finger has improved !

Thanks so much! Yeah my finger has healed. I didn't order enough of the ribbon for her mantle and had to order more. I also went home for stuff and managed to leave the bag with my art supplies behind! We're going back next week so it'll be a little while before I can work. I'll show what I have so far in a bit.

OK I've been gone because the crown I made got stolen by a kitty and got lost. Blah. I had to order supplies before I can make another one, I'm using actual metallic fimo so the little patches I miss with the gold leaf won't show, haha. Most gets covered but there might be tiny patches. Anyway I need that and a fine brush to paint with. Left plenty of stuff behind last time I went back to my place. Ugh. So when I have something to post I'll be back.

It turns out I had my brushes, haha. Anyway the crown is done and dusted (or leafed) and the scepter is done too. Still have to make shield, hose and shoes and finish the dalmatic. Maybe by the weekend? Hopefully! Be back soon!

So it's been a while since I posted and I apologize. I got socked with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) on top of treated clinical depression and am still recovering. I haven't been able to work and not sure how long it'll be. Between those things and the state of the world I'm having a hard time. But I'm going to try to work this week. I will be back!

Hi! I've been having major problems with where I've been living. I haven't been able to work for a while. Things are settling down however and I just wanted to note that I'll be back when I have a completed card to show. I'll get on that and be back soon!

Oh my goodness it's been a while since I was last here! I know I said I'd have a completed card next post, but I'm very close, just have to make the Empress' shield and throne, not very difficult, and then I'll be able to get the image completed! I'm excited!

First time i saw this thread ..

The name for me doesnt match the deck if it was to be sold..

More of the doll life tarot. Or something like that.

Will the other courts change hair colour?

Are you looking at kick starter to help out with the expensive costs?

I just stopped by to say that The Tower is well under way and may be the first card! OK so I just like the word Metaphorical, haha. It has to do with the whole deck, not just the "doll" aspect. At any rate I have no luck with things like Kickstarter, tried a GoFundMe for a dental problem and got almost nothing. (Going for a grant for that.) So yep I even have a black-haired head for the Queen of Coins, I'll end up with way more heads than bodies, haha. Give the images a chance, not even there quite yet...

An idea about The Tower, I have to retrieve the background from my place where I left it! I'm just trying to show the smoke and then how it'll be arranged, more or less. No figures yet, but coming!

Hmm be too tragic to set it on fire for the card..some sort of ventilation with colour paper and light eh?

Some dolls hanging on for dear life. ?

I too fall in love with names and ideas, it is your deck so sure *smiles*

Looking forward to finisjed tower to see how it turns out

Hehe! Yes tiny sculptures to be done. There's an interesting story to my little tower. I went to Swain School of Design in New Bedford, MA (now the art dept. of U-Mass Dartmouth). At the time the school was moving into an old building that at one time had been a cotton mill, I was working on the renovations. This was on the floor, an old cog made of wood, and I said to myself hey that looks like a tower! Now I had been studying the deck since the age of 12, so yeah that was in the back of my mind already, haha (just fyi, it was the 80's, hahaha!). Some time ago (when, not exactly sure) I gessoed it. Then a while later (relatively recently I believe, when I really had a solid idea) I drew on the door, windows and arrow loops. As it is a cog, it is of course hollow, and if you look at the bottom there you can see the tiny tile holding the Japanese incense! I have some backflow incense I can tuck into the top for an even more dramatic effect (thinking of combining the 2 kinds). Ok so also I got a beautiful $10 piece of handmade paper with metallic accents at my other place where I left it, looks like a stormy sky, need to retrieve it before I can finish that one. Always something! Also, breaking a bit with tradition and the gold backgrounds since the history is a bit iffy, haha.

Ok my real reason for visiting today was to start a new thread for my other deck, which I am dusting off and figuring out how to make it work! I'll describe the whys and wherefores in my new thread, do look! Hehe. I had close to an entire deck done when I ran into resolution problems which is what I'm monkeying with now. So on to post the first of THOSE cards! Today I'll try to work on my Empress here, do at least the shield!
