RavenOfSummer Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 In general I haven't been a historical deck person, but I've kind of fallen in love with the Cary-Yale Visconti Tarot, so it might become my first. Wondering if anyone has this 2017 edition of it, and what are your thoughts if so? https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0880790385/
EmpyreanKnight Posted November 11, 2017 Posted November 11, 2017 I'm very interested about the US Games Cary-Yale too, as it has been in my wishlist for so long. Once I get into my historical decks phase I shall surely get it, but for now I'm curious about feedback from those who actually own it too. All I know is that it has 8 extra cards (since it has male and female pages and knights, so it's like an extra page and knight for each suit) so it has a total of 86 cards. Only 67 cards survived AFAIK, so some of the cards are recreations. It also has a decent LWB that is bigger than most, and it has helpful meanings that would make the deck ready for divinatory use. Upon comparison, Il Meneghello's Visconti di Modrone (their version of the Cary-Yale) is more visually and texturally stunning. It really should be the version to get, except for two things. The first is that it is around 2-3 times the USG version's price, tho its indubitably superior quality excuses this, really. The second is that it only features the original 67 cards, so it is quite incomplete. For many, that would mean that it's not going to be very useful for practical use, and isn't that what the Tarot should be about? Collectors would definitely grab this tho. For now, I personally lean towards the USG C-Y.
