Today I received the Asherah, which has been in progress for many years. It's influenced by the Thoth, but has kept some Golden Dawn attributes (like Judgement as card 20 instead of Aeon). Does its own thing in places too - like female Hermit and Chariotess. I like her description of Empress and Emperor as solar feminine and masculine, Priestess and Hierophant as lunar feminine and masculine.

Came quickly from Game Crafter. Nice stock for me; it's thin and whippy, but feels durable and... I guess supple is the word. The not-so-white lwb that comes with it has good info. The deck is the large size from GC, and isn't cheap. Cheaper poker size due out at the end of the year, but I like this art in the larger size.

(I've mainly stuck with my favorite, the Tabula Mundi since it was released. Asherah is tempting me to read it alongside the TM for comparison this week.)

Wow, what a pretty deck! It's going on my wishlist too. I really like the artstyle - I'm not always that into computer art for decks (at least I think this one is computer art!) as I think it can look too "slick" and shiny for my tastes - but this is something I can get appreciate for sure  :)

ETA: nevermind, it IS traditional artwork and paintings, I had a look on the artists site.

Just a follow up to say I'm still loving the Asherah. It's one of the reasons I started the Comparative Tarot study group here this week, because this deck makes me reflect on the very deliberate choices the artist made. Laying it side by side with Golden Dawn, RWS, and Thoth, you can see that it's in the same tradition but a hybrid, familiar but not completely true to any one deck. The artist's respect for nature is central, as well as the inspiration provided by Dion Fortune's Mystical Qabalah.

If you read with RWS and/or Thoth, and you're willing to have the deck offer up a few differences while still being readable out of the box, I highly recommend it. To me it's beautiful and though provoking, whether I end up agreeing with all of her choices or not.

This deck is all sorts of beautiful. And you're right, Rose Lalonde, it seems like a refreshing interpretation of the GD trio. My wishlist is becoming crowded.

The deck creator is deciding whether to pull the Asherah from Gamecrafter (due to concerns about the quality of their latest samples). Either way she plans to release the deck on Makeplayingcards and Printerstudio soon as a second edition. Details on her facebook...

(I ordered the day it was released, so I don't know about the most recent printings and am happy with the deck I got, but I plan to get the upcoming poker size too, so will be keeping an eye out for that.)
