HOLMES Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 (edited) I was lying looking at potential decks to buy, maybe that one or this book. Then I saw this!! No mention of it on her site, llewlyn or amazon us. So breaking news? So i am all for a new lenormand.. maybe wished for differnt motiff besides steampunk https://www.amazon.ca/Steampunk-Lenormand/dp/0738770809/ref=cm_wl_huc_item Appears not to be any inserts Edited April 1, 2021 by HOLMES
gregory Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 It's from Lo Scarabeo. (Llewellyn distributes their stuff in North America.) If Barbara is involved it should be sound. A few more cards shown here.
Guest Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 It is nice artwork. But it is not for me. The Sun card doesn’t even show the Sun. That completely changes it’s meaning. Lightbulbs and the Sun are not the same.
HOLMES Posted April 1, 2021 Author Posted April 1, 2021 Must have to do something with electricity in the steampunk genre i would gather. Then i suppose for it to replace the sun. There have to be sun at all. Unless these steampunkers live in darkness like vaults due to bad external conditions. Have to assume Barbara releasing a nice book with it to explain it. Still unless really know Lenormand system, be hard to see as sun at first read, least for this beginnet
Guest Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 (edited) Beginner or otherwise, it has drastically changed the card’s signification. It is not the Sun card, and therefore, cannot be read as the Sun card. Even in the Petit Lenormand, no card means something else other than itself. The sun provides the vital conditions for success. That is because the sun itself itself is necessary for food energy (photosynthesis), warmth, light and the precipitation needed for life. That is where the Sun card’s significations (vitality, conditions for success, energy) come from. In addition to its core meanings, the Sun signifies the morning, summer and one year/your birthday (timing). None of those can be seen in a lightbulb. Edited April 1, 2021 by Guest

I wasn't even going to comment, just let it sink into oblivion. But there's activity here, so I have to step in and say this looks really bad. The only way you can even tell it's supposed to be the Sun is the number. Same with the Stars - gears don't say the same things stars do. I do read the Sun as electricity sometimes - if the Scythe is with it. Alone, it doesn't say that. As for the book, LS has a history of hiring random people to write books to go with their Lenormand decks. (Remember Laura Tuan?) I've only seen Barbara Moore's name in association with Tarot products, she doesn't really seem to be into Lenormand. So the book probably has issues. Authors don't make a lot of money and people take what work they can get, I guess. Hopefully her book is better than Tuan's, but that's a really low bar.
gregory Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 I'll ask Barbara about it. It's not like her to write on something she knows nothing about though.
Guest Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 I’ve read a couple of Barbara Moore’s texts and was impressed. If this is LS, I cannot imagine it will be a long book but something rather concise. It is not for me. I am not saying nobody should by it, but this idea that the images mean nothing at all has gone too far.

That's not a bad idea. Ask her about her sources, if you don't mind. 1 hour ago, timtoldrum said: I’ve read a couple of Barbara Moore’s texts and was impressed. That's just it. She seems to have a decent enough rep. Why is she involved with a deck like this? Is she not aware of the issues, or does she just not care? 1 hour ago, timtoldrum said: I am not saying nobody should by it, but this idea that the images mean nothing at all has gone too far. First they wanted to add a lot of detail and read off the pictures, now it's this. Completely changing the images and using meanings meant for the standard image, more often than not. I'm not sure what's so difficult about "The Sun is an image of the sun." 😑 Edited April 1, 2021 by katrinka
