HOLMES Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 1 hour ago, timtoldrum said: I have not watched the video; however, “chaining” is complicated by the fact that people use the term for two separate things. When I use the term chains and chaining it refers to cards between two important cards. For example, say you have the Gentleman + Letter + Flowers + Park + Heart + Lady. Here the Letter, the Flowers, the Park and the Heart cards are chained by the Gentlemen and the Lady cards. The chain describes what goes on between the two cards. You can uses chains with any key cards. For example, if you had a job interview look for cards between the Significator and the Moon (you) and between the Moon and the Fox (other candidates). If you were looking to make extra money look for cards between the Fishes and the Significator or the Boat (commerce). Around 2011/12, Mary K Greer began using the term chain of houses. Over time, it became abbreviated to chaining and chains. The technique Mary was referring to is house hopping and is actually an alternative to counting. This was too good to leave buried in another thread. So others can easily find it. I thought personally it was just a gt techique due to the house hopping/chain of houses. I didn't know there was a big difference!!.
Guest Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 (edited) The house hopping technique is limited to the grand tableau. How it works is that one must choose a card of interest, such as the Ring for a relationship, and find out what house it is in. The GT below is the one that will be used on my site. Here, the Ring is in the house of the Moon. You would then find the Moon, which is in the house of the Fox. You then look for the Fox. The Fox is in the house of the Stars, which is in the house of the Birch Rod: and so on. The cartomante would carry on until she came back to the Ring. Unlike actual counting, you can end up with any number of cards. I would always recommend actual counting over house hopping. But Mary and Rana find it useful — so it must have something. However, the popularity of house hopping stems from the current over reliance on houses. Like mirroring or counting, houses should be used with discrimination. Each one (counting, houses, intersection points, knighting, and so on) has a particular use. In any GT one would not ever need to use more than techniques. Otherwise you end up in a mess. Chaining (as I refer to it), can be used in smaller spreads. In the GT here, the Paths and the Park are chained by the Lady and the Gentleman. Perhaps we need a General GT thread where each reader can talk about their techniques and use? . Edited April 7, 2021 by Guest Typo & Clarity
