Hmm interesting..

Is it based on book or movie or both.

For liscensing the lord of the rings online could only use the book.

I like the ten of swords, wished see all the emperor, and didn't understand the 7 of cups.

Hmm perhaps it is based on the scene where frodo saw the possible futyre in lord of rings.

I'm guessing the movies, due to the imagery. However when it comes to licensing, well, a lot of fanart style decks aren't explicitly licensed. (By a lot I mean most.) This is why some of them are even coy about it and referred to as 'a deck inspired by a movie' or somesuch.

It’s beautiful. It look a lot like the movie yet due to the medium they probably can squeak buy on the copyright infringement

I doubt the Tolkien Estate approved this, and I think they can be pretty intense about guarding their IP. The artist is taking a big risk.

Someday I'd love to see a deck that incorporates the entire Tolkien legendarium, with the Valar in the Major Arcana, but that will probably have to wait until it enters public domain, if it ever does.

That would be so amazing. Or three decks - First Age, Second Age and Third Age. I'd be up for that as well.

Oh I would LOVE something like that. <sigh> Sadly I feel like the estate would never go for it, so bootleg decks are probably the best we can hope for.

I wish the Lord of the Rings deck had been better. I love Peter Pracownik's dragons, not so keen on his people, and don't think his style was a good match.

I dream of an Alan Lee illustrated deck. Alternatively, a not known as a Tolkien illustrator choice could be Anna-Marie Ferguson, but I may be biased as I love the Llewellyn tarot.

I liked the Roger Garland covers for the History of Middle Earth books, I seem to recall he did a dragon themed tarot deck, so he wouldn't be against tarot...

But, like you say, the estate wouldn't go for it.
