Bodhiseed Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 (edited) Liminal: a crossing over space; in process; transitional period; threshold; movement from one stage to another. The liminal shakes us out of our habitual patterns and invites us to surrender to uncertainty. Transformation only happens when we allow it. "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." ~Sharon Begley 0 - Fool Seen from below, a jester watches a kite swirl and dip, unaware of the step he's about to take off a crumbling cliff. While his dog tries to grab the kite's string and alert him, he's definitely about to take a fall. The Fool is not tied down by fear or preference; he moves in wonder and delight from one moment to the next. It's no wonder others have sewn bells on his clothes to alert them of his coming; he is oblivious to his surroundings other than what has currently caught his attention. He agrees with Joseph Campbell: "If you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you..." Sometimes that track takes you over an uncertain edge, but he's not interested in fail-safe plans. He believes the risks are worth the tumbles. As Campbell stated: "doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be." The little snail falling off the cliff might be a suggestion for patience and prudence, but the Fool knows it's impossible to take a leap in slow motion. "The ground beneath you is shifting, and either you get sucked in by holding on to old ways, or you take a giant step forward by taking some risks and seeing what happens." ~Bonnie Hammer Edited July 5, 2021 by Bodhiseed
Bodhiseed Posted July 5, 2021 Author Posted July 5, 2021 1 – Magus Even among a chaotic whirl of cups, wands, swords, and discs, this magus keeps his focus steady. His right hand holds a rod in the air while his left hand points downward, touching a rod of Asclepius. Below the rod lies a stone tablet. The magus illustrates how the physical world responds to intentional action. He combines his knowledge (stone tablet) with volition, or the intention behind his action. For the magus, his mind is an ally, not a distraction. The crossing lines remind me of mind mapping; he sees his resources (symbols of the four suits), how they relate to each other, and how to combine them to manifest his will. His volition is the force that will drive his actions like the rudder of a ship. Because he touches the rod of Asclepius (healing and renewal), it appears his intentions are wholesome and sincere. “We either live with intention or exist by default.” ~Kristin Armstrong
