Ur-Lenormand : Game of Hope Deck

Recommended Posts

I’ve just bought a reprint copy of this classic game/deck.

I notice the instructions state (presumably translated from the original German) :

’2nd improved edition’.

I’m wondering how the first edition differed and if the first edition instructions have ever been translated/made available?

I never purchased the Ur Lenormand since I'm told it's oversized. My Spiel der Hoffung decks, both the regular and the mini, are from Lauren's shop.
So I have no idea what the first set of instructions in the Ur were like. But here is a translation (not a great one, but enough to get the gist) of the instructions that came with the original Spiel der Hoffnung.

Many thanks!

Yes, this sheet is identical to the set of instructions in the Ur-Lenormand and also identify the deck as ’2nd improved edition’.

Take the Introduction (the not-translated part) with a big grain of salt, especially the bit that says "Tarot Professionals recently paid for a high quality photograph to be taken of the deck and made available on the British Museum website." You can rest assured that those images were online before Tarot Professionals knew they existed. 😉

Agreed!

Digging a little deeper, it would appear that the translated section of text which appears in all the recently reproduced Game of Hope/Primal Lenormand decks is based on the German instruction pamphlet which accompanies that deck stored at the British Museum.

That deck is presumably a ’2nd improved edition’ of the game.

A first edition deck may not have survived.
