nord_drache Posted July 13, 2021 Posted July 13, 2021 Here is one of my posts . . . Quote Deck Accoutrements Don't know if this is a rehash of a past thread - or new. I think other people's ideas may be of interests to novice readers such as me. Currently my deck is housed in a fake-book shaped box - quite gothic/formal looking. There is resides wrapped in a headscarf - it was my mom's who passed 8 years ago - and I also layout my spread upon it. Also in it are a number of crystals. Hope its of interest to all. Jim Nothing has really changed here and the balance of my decks reside in a drawer and I keep another of mom's headscarves near for the spread to be laid out on. . . Jim
Nisaba Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 I moved house six months ago and I have been quite remiss: both my library and my collection of decks - my two most prized possessions - are still mostly boxed from the move. <blushes hotly> However, in better times, the books are shelved and bring their own magic to a room, while the decks are sorted in (approximately) theme-order, and collected in those themes in large or small wicker baskets scattered through the house, the theory being that if I want a particular deck I'll find it quickly, because I'll know which basket to go ferretting in. But not having unpacked properly ... just yesterday I mentioned one of my lovely gems, the Russian Snake Tarot (so good!) on FB and a friend asked for pictures, and I KNEW that it would be a search of hours'n'hours if I wanted to take a snap of my own favourite cards from the deck. So I found an online publicity-shot. Somebody! Please shoot the Procrastination Fairy. Bury her foetid bones a long way from here.
euripides Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 My current decks are in a couple of those faux-book-boxes, one just as-is, the other in a drawstring bag. These are perfect for decks, I think. At one point I'd kept a little bag of precious things in beside one of them, or I might tuck a bundle of herbs or a sprig of rosemary in the box, but generally I keep things simple. The rest are in a plastic storage box - as it happens, on the floor beside my desk because I was sorting cupboards. I need another bookcase. But I find it's better if I'm not swamped with choice, and I just use a couple of favorites most of the time.
Sar Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 My collections are with me in a book case in my kitchen.
Nisaba Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 Some of my decks are in original packaging, many are wrapped in tie-dyed silk, some are in pouches. If anyone remembers Eden Seeker from AT, she makes wonderful wallet-style pouches. Then, they are bunched together in shallow wicker baskets, of which I have many. I have a reading kit in a wheelie bag: spreadcloth, old-fashioned hourglass, pendulum, bits'n'bobs, and five decks. When I pack it I make sure I have a RW clone, a Marseille, a Visconti, The Grail and a modern deck.

Fabric cloth, candles, business cards, light source, pouch for cash w/ change, Kleenex, and several decks (always my querent Thoth and a fitting RWS styled more modern pack at the least). bastetly Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 This may or may not be helpful. I'm in kind of a mood so I'll share: I bought clear plastic photo suitacases w individual slots w lock cases in ea one, from Michael's, on sale, that hold some of my tarot decks, sans the tuckboxes. (I keep those, but somewhere else in case I decide to sell one later.) Inside is a list of my other decks, study notes I've handwritten, and acid-free paper in between. I think the suit-cases are acid-free photo quality if memory serves. It us. does not. I think I will add my name and phone # to it.... Reason being, they lock (sort of) shut, and have a handle, so I can fly out of here in case of you name it, I live in California. They're near the front door.

You will have to show us a picture of those photo suitcases! I am trying to picture what it looks like ! I understand why you put it together. A couple of years ago, a large apartment building very close to us caught fire and burnt down. I remember standing in the window, watching the nightmare take place. Many people didn't even have time to put on shoes, but others had been able to grab the essentials. No one got injured though, thankfully. But the event really stuck with me. Some time after that, I went ahead and bought a fire proof safety cabinet. Its the kind that you can leave when you evacuate and then come back to empty when its safe to go back. In it I put extra hard drives where I did backups of all our family photos/videos, and I also put some heirlooms (mostly just sentimental value) in there, and important documents. Aside from those more common things, I also put a few decks there. I have a couple of decks that have become like my 'safe havens' over the years and nowadays most of them are OOP. I bought a spare copy of each while they were in print and it is those few spare copies that reside in that safe. Other than that, I don't do extra decks, I only have one copy of each other deck in my collection. I have been reading cards for so long that I know that it is highly unlikely that I would suddenly lose this interest. That's is why it makes sense for me to do this. So In case of an emergency, I won't bother thinking about that stuff and just leave it at home. I understand that it is different for you since you may have to fly from home. In that case, what you have planned sounds smart. I also have one smaller fire safe that is transportable - like a small suitcase. So in case we had a fire in the woods near us I could certainly load that and put it next to the door, just in case. Lets hope none of us have to use any of these things.

I also separate my tuck boxes in case of sale / trade.

Here's one, but I don't have the rainbow thingy https://www.michaels.com/rainbow-photo-and-craft-keeper-by-simply-tidy/10468242.html and https://www.michaels.com/mint-photo-and-craft-keeper-by-simply-tidy/10660233.html These are both overpriced imho, so be sure to use their coupon or wait for a sale. I hope you have something like a Michael's Craft Store in your area. They send mailers out and that's where the best deals are found. I got mine at half off I believe. Good Luck!

I put a couple of links below to show what they basically look like Raggydoll. I think I shall look into the safety cabinet idea. I can't fit everything into the small fire safe suitcase I also have for cash, id's, my pearls lol, an OOp deck, etc. Would work in earthquakes too, I imagine! I still can't figure out how to get cats outside dur an emergency. They tend to hide under things.... That brought tears to my eyes.

That brought tears to my eyes. I'd block access to hidden areas they can get under where you can't reach them. They can still have privacy in an open cat carrier or a box. And when you’re away, confine them to areas near entrances so firefighters can quickly and easily locate them. Carriers, harnesses, and leashes should be kept near entrances as well. Grab this, too, if you haven't already. It's free. https://secure.aspca.org/take-action/order-your-pet-safety-pack And if worse comes to worst and your home is burning, NAG. YELL. One of those firefighters has to be a cat person. Those suitcases look super helpful. The rainbow one is nice, but I'm a sucker for mint green. Maybe because it's so hot here and mint is such a cooling color. 💖

A friend suggested getting a broom and herding them down the hall into a room... The carriers by the front door is a lot of trouble to go to when I have errands lol. We are talking about 7 in the house dur the day.... HOWEVER, I appreciate the suggestion. And I WILL figure out a way to manage this somehow bc IT JUST MAKES SENSE to a point. Yep, I'll do better! FIRES <<shudders>> Grab this, too, if you haven't already. It's free. https://secure.aspca.org/take-action/order-your-pet-safety-pack Done 🙂 did put up one sticker a bit ago, but more is better. And I got the keychain tag ❤️ And if worse comes to worst and your home is burning, NAG. YELL. One of those firefighters has to be a cat person. Thanks for being a good pet buddy, katrinka. Really tidy way to look em over as well. Yes the rainbow nah. Mine are clear w no color, and they are durable! Edited August 19, 2021 by bastetly

Morwenna Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 My decks are mostly in a few wooden chests, and more recently I've acquired some decorative cardboard storage boxes from my friend's estate, I think they were originally designed for DVDs or something. There are still quite a few decks in a duffel bag though. All are in their original boxes, except for a few whose boxes disintegrated over time (and they're bagged with their decks) and a couple I acquired used without boxes, and one whose set-box I threw away before I knew any better; the other sets are in a bookshelf. So far. They may end up in one of those chests or decorative boxes; right now the bedroom is a mess. But I don't have any other accoutrements, like reading cloths; I used to just put out a tablecloth when I was reading for renfaires. But over the years I have acquired squares of fabric large enough for the card table, in prints and coordinating solids, which I'm going to make into reversible table covers one of these days in my copious spare time... I have no real excuses now that I'm retired and widowed!
Guest Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 I keep mine in their original packaging in some boxes. Spartan and utilitarian, but they do the job. However, I am thinking of purchasing (or commissioning?) some wooden boxes and cloths to at least make my decks du jour comfy.
