Panda Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 I've just started an exercise, going through each card, writing down what they could mean. I wondered if Rider could represent a police officer. I confess this is due to the image on the card reminding me of the recent mounted police involved in protests here in Australia, which is tarotising somewhat. If not the Rider, who would you use to represent a police officer?
Sadewa Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Primarily the Rider is about messages and messengers. Police officers, in my opinion, primarily do not serve to inform. Personally, I would use combos like Bear+Rod (powerful/official person with corrective measures) to represent a police officer.

Makes a lot of sense. Thanks Sadewa.
DanielJUK Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 I wondered about Bear + Tower, official from an institution and the person with power.
fire cat pickles Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Interesting. While we're on the subject... What about a firefighter? 😉
Decan Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 The Rider is good news that comes, but when a police officer comes it's not generally good news... In a society police is the legal force.

This is a good way of looking at it. It's also dependent on the situation. Police can show up as Clouds, because they're trouble. Think of them roughing up peaceful protestors, and the literal clouds of tear gas. Scythe might be there, too, to indicate danger, as well as Coffin and/or Cross. A police roadblock might include Mountains, which can be both an obstacle and a powerful enemy. While we, the readers, need to remain neutral, we need to keep in mind that cards can be subjective. If you hear gunfire in your neighborhood, police presence is often wanted. But for someone like Philando Castile or Sandra Bland, police are danger and death. Edited September 24, 2021 by katrinka
Decan Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 In many decks there is always the card of "the man in uniform", so policeman, soldier, firefighter and so on; with Lenormand we haven't that card.
katrinka Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 In a way, that's what I love about Lenormand - it isn't cut-and-dried. If you're reading for a woman whose husband is "jumping the fence", the other woman will generally show up in a negative light. But if your reading for the other woman, the wife will often show up as the b1tch. I think the cards are actually easier to read because they don't have rigid cards that always indicate "cop", "side chick", etc. You get to play it by ear.
WizardintheWoods Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 Excellent point @katrinka, it is very dependent on the situation as to how, example we are discussing at the moment, a policeman would be described. I know in a way that this “fluid”way of Lenormand can frustrate people, it did for me until the lightbulb went on so to speak. I will say this is why books without lengthy lists of combinations and such appeal to me more, but that happened after said lightbulb went on 🤣.
Panda Posted September 25, 2021 Author Posted September 25, 2021 Thanks everyone for your replies and insights. I realise that I neglected to think of combinations by expecting just one card to represent a police officer. Thinking too much like a Tarot reader. I see now that other cards and the situation regarding a particular officer come into play.

selena Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 (edited) Like others, I read the Bear + Rod as a policeman (person (bear) with the ability to reprimand (rod)). For a fire fighter, probably the Bear + Scythe or Rod + Sun. For me, the Bear + Tower talks more about a person (bear) who is older or at distance (tower). It can sometimes be a community elder, too. I see the Garden rather than the Tower as an institution. But that’s just me. Edited October 11, 2021 by selena Correction of Typo

Bear + Tower to me would be something along the lines of a prison guard (a person of strength who works in an institution).
