I was looking for a lenormand and other tarot decks to start growing a collection, when I saw a preorder for this!

I also found that the author has created a Garbage Pail Kids tarot to be release in 2022! Fun!!

What decks do you think you will use again and again??

good point. I guess I should reassess my intentions and only invest in ones that I know I’ll use. But I am loving the art work. I am a Disney fan. But I’d prefer to save up for a baba deck first I guess. Oh I suppose I’ll just focus on a lenormand first. I definitely need one of them for this forum. And an oracle deck.

oh gosh so many of them. I really like the Alice deck because, again, Disney. I get sad every time I look at their website because so many great ones are OOP. eBay prices are astronomical. Nice collector items, I am sure.

US Games has an Alice in Wonderland deck too. Absolutely marvelous thing that comes in a tin.

While we're on the subject Llewellyn has the excellent Tarot in Wonderland, which I'd highly recommend.  

Anyways, my thoughts on the OP: I've actually been thinking of getting that deck for a friend who's really into Disney villains.  TBH, I think you should get it if you really want it, because life is too short to refrain from doing what makes you happy...so long as what makes you happy isn't illegal or putting other people at risk of course.  I own a few novelty decks myself, and I'm sure I'll end up with more in the future.  If you end up connecting with that deck then so much the better, and it's great when you really enjoy using a deck.  You can definitely get some excellent readings even out of non-traditional decks.

I took a look at that one. Not a deck for me maybe but I love the tin and the cards look like full of imagination.

As with many of these IP-made decks, I'm always leery of how they've paired imagery. Here I feel like High Priestess and Magician are excellent, but the Star seems somewhat nonsensical. Tower is good, Three of Coins is a little ????. 

 

I'll wait for a fuller review, I think, before buying. Unlike a lot of the more recent Disney decks, this doesn't appear to be full pips (note the 10 of Wands). But I can't get over the Magic Mirror as the Star. Weird choice.

A problem with choosing a specific IP as a theme for a deck is that every card has to be represented via images pertaining to that IP.  It can be done effectively in some cases, but it definitely requires creativity and outside of the box thinking as it's easy for the theme to overpower the intended meanings of the cards as a result of trying to make a card fit something to do with the IP.  Moreover, if the deck is a licensed product, it quite likely exists first and foremost for the sake of being a novelty item, and therefore probably isn't created by an expert who is first and foremost invested in carrying over the card meanings. 

 

I'm guessing this particular deck ran into another common issue, which is finding relevant subjects for each and every card.  If this were just Disney in general, there are multiple options I could think of that would be perfect for The Star.  But, as this deck is centered around the villains, The Star needs to be represented by something to do with a villain.  I can kind of see the line of thinking here, but I don't think the Magic Mirror would have been my choice for The Star either.

i believe they gave her the High priestess. You can see some of the cards on Amazon.

The Baba Alice deck has nothing to do with Disney and everything to do with the original books 🙂.  It is my favorite deck of all time, reads like a Wonderland dream.  I would say if/when you get this deck that you also purchase the companion book to get the very most out of this deck. 

 

If you love Wonderland, I would recommend the Tarot Wonderland by Barbara Moore.  I purchased it right before I lucked into the Alice Tarot and I do like it.

 

As for the Disney Villains deck, I have been eyeballing it for a while now (as well as the upcoming Alice in Wonderland Deck also by Disney coming out in Nov. 2021) but I will admit that I am feeling these are probably going to be more like novelty decks and not decks I will read with.  I will confess, I like making Disney character doll clothes for my Ever After High dolls and want the decks for purposes of making doll clothes 🤣.  Here are a couple of pics of Ever After High dolls I made a Wite Rabbit outfit for and an Alice outfit 😆

@Onibaba just for my own fun.  Doll photography is just a side hobby for me and I like making the clothes, setting the scenes and taking pics.  One day I might make myself a calendar out of them.  I use Monster High and Ever After High dolls.  Here is my only Villain so far (done in 2014 for a friendly doll photo competition)

 

So as you can see the two Disney Tarot decks could be very inspiring for me! 🤣  I suppose I could do one card readings ... "Which doll Disney Character should I make next and photograph?"  I have already done Cinderella, Fairy Godmother, Alice, White Rabbit, Esmeralda, Ariel, and Belle with Ever After High Dolls, and Cruella with the below Monster High Doll.
