AlbaTross Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Hi, I recently received my Kickstarter for Yokai Yochi Tarot, which came with two decks instead of one. I opened one, and left another in its plastic. I was thinking of giving one to a friend for Christmas, but then I saw this: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1124806711/new-yokai-yochi-tarot-by-buboplague?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_ca_en_ca_a-home_and_living-spirituality_and_religion-divination_tools-tarot&utm_custom1=_k_CjwKCAiA4veMBhAMEiwAU4XRr3-UQL4p_Rot1m-QP1h7TLEpN5hQO3f-DIENJYtKLf9O4BidjjFiiBoC5qEQAvD_BwE_k_&utm_content=go_318297285_49904056482_230593203799_pla-308022796295_c__1124806711enca_102855400&utm_custom2=318297285 Is that really what my spare deck is worth now? That would pay for Christmas and then some. Of course, I'm not going to just sell something at huge markup if that's not the actual value, but that's a huge inflation in a short amount of time if it is worth that. I don't have much experience, but my friend has things on his list I could get him instead if I just sell this sealed deck. I don't have experience with selling Tarot decks, but I suppose that's a milestone I'm overdue to cross. Thoughts?
katrinka Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 List it for a similar price and see if it sells. If it doesn't, you still have the deck. If it does, woohoo!
gregory Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 I just looked at that seller. MAYBE your deck is worth that much - but that seller has - for instance - Lo Scarabeo's Elemental up there for more than Amazon sells it for; also the Château Avenières for four times what I paid for mine two years ago, and the 5th edition Jonasa Jaus for £119 - Jonasa is still selling it for 35 euros. She has some good stuff - but the prices ar on the high side. Good luck; list it and see what you get !
gregory Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 (edited) OH CRAP - and look how MANY decks of each are in people's baskets.... - and they are in Taiwan.... I become suspicious now.... Edited November 24, 2021 by gregory

I become suspicious now.... I don't think how many are in people's Etsy baskets is related to how many are for sale. At the link Albadawn gave there is only 1 copy available, and 3 people have it in their basket. If one of them buys it, it will say item unavailable on the previous sales page. I've bought a single item of jewelry for sale that was in others' Etsy baskets, and as soon as I bought it, it was gone. (That said, the seller MAY have multiple copies. Hard to tell. That's because on Etsy sellers will often list one of something to add urgency with the "only one available message," and then after it sells, they'll come back and add another single copy of it for sale that also says "only one available.")
DanielJUK Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 I'm very sceptical of the etsy baskets thing, I think it's to pressure you to buy it. It's common a lot on holiday selling websites and some product sites. "there are only 3 left, act fast!". I'm not sure that many people really have a deck in their baskets and it's just an algorithm about visitors to a page but who knows.
Niobium Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 Yeah, near as I can tell, the 'Only X left, but it's in X+10 peoples' baskets!' is something of a trick on Etsy's part. This shop looks legit, but as to the price, the real answer is 'it's worth what you can get for it'. Finding a buyer who can and will pay $300-$500 is the real issue. (And will they be willing to pay for shipping, and...) This isn't to discourage you so much as warn that selling the decks for large amounts of money isn't without its risks/stress. Either way, congratulations on the windfall!

I mean, I technically got this spare deck for free, since I paid for one deck and got two. I could possibly think of it as getting two identical decks for $35 (probably USD), but I only have the need for one. I was considering giving it to my friend as a gift, but I'll pursue this avenue as I wouldn't say no to a ridiculous amount of cash either. At $35 in value, it's worth being able to check that friend off my list for Christmas gifts. However, if that value is legit in the triple digits, I'm better off just selling it and buying a different gift. 4 minutes ago, Niobium said: Yeah, near as I can tell, the 'Only X left, but it's in X+10 peoples' baskets!' is something of a trick on Etsy's part. Either way, congratulations on the windfall! Thanks, I wasn't expecting to have a windfall, but anything I can get for this deck is certainly worth it. If it doesn't sell at such a ridiculous price (I'm not sure if the link is showing pricing according to region, or if it just shows Canadian pricing like it does for me), I can just lower it. Even $70 USD would cover what I paid for both decks, thus meaning I break even and am up one great deck (I guess I should make a post in the unboxing). Anything beyond that is extra. The price you see in that link is just crazy! At the very least it's probably worth putting the deck out there to see what I can get for it. I can lower it quite a bit and still gain what can be considered a windfall.

AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 if you didn't pay for it consider sending it back to the seller? if you give it to your friend and they sell it will you be miffed?

One of the backing options is a set of two decks. I'm sure it was paid for. 34 minutes ago, AJ-ish/Sharyn said: if you give it to your friend and they sell it will you be miffed? That's a good point. By my lights, if I give something to someone, it's theirs to do as they please with. But some people don't feel that way. There's scene in an old Leave It To Beaver episode where Wally is talking about his letterman's jacket. He tells Beaver, "When your parents pay that much for a jacket, it's never really yours." 🤣
PathWalker Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 Someone is seeking this deck via the trading section of this forum - if you are a subscriber you can get in touch with them there.

Really? Sweet! I'm not a subscriber, but I should look into that. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I'm willing to negotiate on price (I don't actually need $600CAD). It seems I'm in a price war on Etsy. I listed my deck a couple days ago, and decided to undercut the other seller by $17CAD. Well, no wonder no one is interested in my listing, as the other listing has coincidentally been updated to be $3 less than mine. Well, I took $10 off of my price, and am now offering it for $7 less than they are. In all seriousness though, if someone is interested on this site I would definitely be willing to get in touch with them. This "bidding war" on Etsy is more a source of amusement for me than anything.

So please don’t solicit sales through PM or through this thread, because that would violate forum rules. Just wanted to clarify that! Good luck 🙂
gregory Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 I see that actually AlbaTross is now a subscriber, so I assume they took that on board.

Yes, I decided to give being a subscriber a try. I have since responded to the post in question in the trading section, and hopefully that person will get back to me. I would first and foremost like this deck to go to someone who really wants it. I don't need a ridiculous mark-up on it. My Etsy posting is purely in response to that other one. I'm also skeptical that people are actually buying decks at that price. All the positive reviews on that other posting seem to be of other decks that seller has sold. If nothing else, my "competition" seems to be bringing the price down for everyone. However, I would be surprised if my deck actually sells as things currently stand. 9 hours ago, Raggydoll said: If you want to do trades or sales on this forum, it needs to be done in the subscribers area. If that user wants the deck, I'm willing to discuss it. I'll make sure to keep it confined to the trading section.
