Today I started getting popup notifications at the bottom of the page whenever someone posts. It's not the end of the world, of course, but it's annoying to be typing something and have a popup come up over it and tell me about something I don't follow, in a thread I never posted in, that I'm not interested in seeing. I really don't even want popups for the things I do follow, I can find them on my notifications list.

I went in my settings to turn it off, but I can't find the option to do that. How do I get rid of these?

just trying it for myself, I shall be back in a minute 🙂

Thank you! That was a quick response. 🙂

This page is the notifications menu here. At the very bottom of the page, there is an option called Push Notifications. This is per browser and each device you use. You can just turn off push notifications at the bottom if they are on, this will turn them off everywhere. I usually have it off. The pop ups will pop up on all your browsers enabled with it and even when you are not on this site directly in the browser. But you can have it on and set the different notifications to reduce the number of them. The choices for each notification type are email / push (if turned on for that browser) and notification list or just notification list (the menu at the top of each page with the globe which gets new notifications). Perhaps something in a setting is now sending you notifications for everything going on.

Try turning off the push ones or reducing the number you get in the settings if you want it on.

If it is not this and something else, please let us know the browser, mobile or desktop, only in one place or multiple places, any info like that would be valuable.

I am not sure why it has started doing that but let's first try that pop up setting at the bottom or reducing them per notification type 🙂

About getting notifications unexpectedly, could it be from anyone you follow (if you follow any people) or could you follow any thread areas of the forum? for example every Lenormand post.  The settings page for content you follow is here. When you first go there, the first page is blank but look down the menu down the left hand side. Important areas to look in:-  Members you follow, topics (threads) you follow and forums (areas) you follow.

I accidentally followed a forum section one time and got loads of threads coming through and finally worked it out 😆

I'm only following one thread, and nobody has posted in it since January of last year. I do follow three members, but they aren't present in the popup threads. Just checked: I don't follow anything else.
Nor did I have push notifications enabled. I just noticed, however, that turning off the email notifications has no effect, so I think something is glitching. Those are already routed to my spam folder, so no problem. I just think there might be an issue since I can't turn them off here.

For the record, I'm on the laptop using the Waterfox browser. The popups were happening when I was replying to a post in the "Cards" thread in the Lenormand section. I haven't seen them anyplace else yet. So maybe there's just an issue with the code for that thread? I hope that's all it is.

I had a look on the forum side and you are not following that thread on the thread page.

I searched google and people are reporting that Waterfox is signing them up to random site notifications. This is slightly beyond the scope of the tech support here but I will say what I found, search for waterfox notifications. It's an ongoing bug I think and came back recently in the G4 version. To stop them, go to preferences => privacy & security => permissions. Have a look in the list under notifications and disable any thetarotforum links. You might even see a link to that topic. Also you can select an option there to block new sites from sending you notifications. The bug is that will randomly turn off again but hopefully they will fix it. Anyway have a delve into the browser notifications, I think that could be the solution.

Thanks.
This place wasn't on the list there, but Tik Tok and the Daily Fail were. (Huh?) So I nuked and blocked that.
