Yes it can be used for any spread. If you want to do a Grand Tableau smaller cards are better because of space needed. I hear you with regards to eye sight. Lenormand uses ‘simple’ symbols, eg an Anchor is an anchor, it does not need a lot of other stuff on the cards. Therefore small cards work well if you choose one with little distracting stuff. See advice above from katrinka. In your case then I would for sure do not take one with verses, but inserts are really helpful.

I don't know the nature or severity of anyone's eye issues, it's different for everybody. But as a rule, the cleaner the image, the more they stand out. These cards are smaller than average - not minis, but smaller than bridge sized. Still, the images have a kind of starkness that makes them easy for most people to see. It's a great deck. 🙂 https://smile.amazon.com/Altes-Lenormand/dp/3868267727

It's been (and continues to be 😭😄) a steep learning curve for me and sticking to one good deck has helped. I hope you'll share more about your journey with the cards. I was in that same position, too, and yes, I totally agree! Ditto on having playing card insets. The Maybe Lenormand looks very nice! I have a preference for more scenic Lenormand decks--e.g. I like to have many stars in my Stars card, preferably in a landscape--but that's just a preference. Great to hear others have had good experiences with the Maybe. I'll keep that in mind myself. 🙂 Bought it! Thanks.

For a split second I thought it was a joke. I am going with the Grand Tableau (have no idea why this is suddenly bold).
Quinn64 Posted January 30, 2022 Author Posted January 30, 2022 Thanks everyone. This has been a big decision for me. I want to invest time into learning this so the book and cards I use are an important choice, one all of you really helped me with. I am bowled over by the friendliness to a stranger you have shown me. I have bought the "Andy" book and the "Tableau" cards. I feel I have the best combo with these to gets started on the right foot. Thank you 🙂
joy Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Great choice, I am glad we could help. Looking forward to your journey, feel free to ask questions, hope to see you around on your Lenormand journey.
Quinn64 Posted January 30, 2022 Author Posted January 30, 2022 Thank you Joy, I plan on making a pest of myself 🙂
Chariot Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 This is to add to my earlier comment yesterday, regarding the Golden Reverie Expanded Lenormand, by Ciro Marchetti. In case anybody wonders, there are 10 extra cards in this deck, which supplement the usual 36 Lenormand cards. These extra cards can simply be left out of the deck, when shuffling, but they are there if the reader wants to include them. I find them useful to use. There is an extra Man and an extra Woman, which can be helpful in certain readings, where the single card is used as the Significator, but another person of the same gender may be prominent in the reading. The other eight extra cards are: Owls - an extra Birds card, but this one signifies wise, informative conversation or advice, not chitter chatter social 'conversation.' The reading I did two days ago contained both cards ...and both were appropriate in that reading Time - This one means that timing or time will affect the matter in some important way Bridge - This signifies connections and/or compromises Dice - This one signifies a deliberate chance or gamble—as opposed to the Clover, which signifies luck that's unlooked-for Mask - This signifies a false face used to conceal trouble or other weakness. This is done to protect the wearer, not to manipulate or exploit others Well - The matter is deep, and may need lots of excavation to uncover Compass - Points towards a destination, warns against lack of planning or following diversions Maze - Signifies trial and error, starting over, twists and turns Magnifying Glass - Signifies details, and a need to scrutinise them carefully
Quinn64 Posted January 30, 2022 Author Posted January 30, 2022 Thanks. I was on the fence about buying this deck because it is so pretty. Now that I know there are useful extra cards I will certainly get it.

I bout that deck just because it is so pretty, and now I won't get confused when I see 10 unfamiliar cards. As I am just beginning, I need as much clarity as possible. So thanks.

Just want to mention that there is nothing wrong with extra cards per se. The Rana has a few extras, too, and they can be fun to experiment with sometimes. But for beginners, it's best to leave them out. They can easily become a crutch. All the things mentioned can be discerned from the original 36. The Clover has a carpe diem quality, you really don't need a Time card. The Snake is twisty things. The Fox is falseness. And so forth - literally everything can be picked out of the cards, or some combination of cards. But if your learning process includes extra cards, you won't develop that ability. And there are enough people cards in the deck that an extra Gent and Lady don't really serve any purpose. I use mine for bookmarks. 😉

Quinn64 Posted February 6, 2022 Author Posted February 6, 2022 Thanks Katrinka. I will not be using the extra cards. I wont be using that deck for a while either. I am sticking to the Grand Tableau until I get comfortable reading these cards.
Barleywine Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 (edited) My first Lenormand deck was the Gilded Reverie but I no longer use it. (I also bought the ebook version of the LWB written by Andy B.) Those I turn to most are the Old Style Lenormand, the Grand Tableau Lenormand and the Heloise Lenormand by Lynne Boyle, with its wonderful stained-glass imagery. I also have a Piatnik and a Blue Owl that see some use. The large-format decks I own, like the Golden and Laura Tuan's, I might use for "house" cards in the event I choose to use houses with a GT (not a frequent occurrence these days since I created a "GT board" with the houses on it). For me, houses tend to be "information overload" so I only consider them when something jumps right out at me. Edited January 15, 2024 by Barleywine
