beginners foolish question

Featured Replies

hi, i am very new to the idea of tarot reading, i have just been given an old set in a really nice engraved brass box and have sorted through tham and they are complete except for the Queen of wands 😕 im sure this is a foolish question but can cards be bought singly or does a new deck need to be bought :/? its a really nice old set so would like to keep them if possible.

after you have more posts, add an image of the box, the copyright page of the little booklet that hopefully came with, it might have a date on it, and an image of a few of the cards. That will help us help you, if we can.

Welcome to the forum, we love new members!

Welcome to the community @Higg94 if you want to introduce yourself, you are welcome to start a thread in our introductions section here 🙂

I've moved this thread to the Tarot Decks section where it will get more interest to help you. If you get to 5 posts in the forum, you will be able to post an image or links to the deck, like @AJ-ish/Sharyn said.

You are welcome to describe the cards if someone might know them or get to 5 posts (you can do it in the introduction section, top tip!) and post an image of it for someone to work out what it is.

About the missing card, if we work out what deck it is, you might be able to ask the publisher for that card. But if the deck is out of print, you probably won't get a card that way. We have a thread that if you find out the name of the deck, you can post a request if anyone has a spare in this thread here. It's slow but someone might have a spare. Anyway I think step one is to work out what deck it is and how easy it will be to get the missing card

The box looks custom, but based on the card back (and despite no publishing imprint) this looks to be some copy of the US Games Albano-Waite:

If it is that deck, you could contact them for a replacement card, though you may want to be specific about the size. It's possible their current run isn't the same dimensions.

Added note: if she received it in the 80s, this could well be a copy from the 60s run, because the deck was out of print for many years until maybe the 90s or so. If that's the case this is in fantastic shape, and a real find despite the missing card. 🙂

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFHjgC536is this lady found replacements some years ago, but shows which readily available deck is the same size.

you can always put a watch on ebay for "Albano-Waite replacement card"  Everything in the world comes up eventually 🙂

hi thank you all for your help, that does appear to be the same but its slightly smaller (mine is 121 X 72)

hm, a shame it's not bigger, you could buy a new copy then trim down the card you need. I suppose you could get one anyways, see if the size difference bothers you? Since it's MM and thus not absurdly expensive.

The original one in that size is still oop as far as I know. A shame as the USG one isn't quite right....

well ill keep my eyes peeled for a replacement, tbh it wouldnt bother me too much if it was a mm or 2 smaller. could one card missing mean something haha?
