Any TdM lovers here?

hello all,

Just wondering if anyone here uses the TdM? Ive grown fond of the TdM but am just learning to read with them...anyone else? What decks/books do you recommend?

Raises hand.

I have several decks, especially love and use the Noblet, Robledo and Conver Ben Doav.

As for books, scroll down at this link. I think David, Enriquez, and O'Neil are essentials. Jodorowsky is controversial with some, as his deck added some things not in the Tdm. But still a ton of good stuff in his book.

I have a nice little historical collection, my favorites are Robledo and Conver Ben Doav. I also love my Soprafino which is almost a TdM but not quite.

For books I mainly refer to "The Open Reading" and the AT historical forum. I saved the threads for reference but I hope they will still be searchable after shutdown.

something about chosson is just so moving. the rawness in lines and the bleeding color conjures the feeling of perfection for me.

I SO agree!! I dont have the Chosson, but tend to prefer the "messy" reproductions over the cleaned up ones...

I do want to learn to be more comfortable with reading with the TdM

Yves' 2012 Pierre Madenie is my favorite and Flornoy's Noblet my second.

I was active on the (soon to disappear) Eye-Rhymes study group readings thread on AT  - based on Enriquez. It was a lot of fun and a good learning experience with some great people.

(I've been very into Thoth/Thoth-inspired decks for a while, but I still love my TdMs just as much and read them for myself. I just stopped exchanging with them, because reading them from a Thoth perspective isn't the mainstream, and I was afraid my reading partner would be dissatisfied.)

My favs as well...then my Dodal (the Dusserre)

I am looking forward to Pablo Robeldo's edition of the Dodal coming later this year I believe....

I'm just learning too. I have a Noblet, the wacky colour Fournier a Lo Scarabeo Ancient Tarot of Marseille, a couple of Conver (including a giant plastic one) and a Grimaud that I don't care for. I am using Yoav Ben Dov's Open Reading book, and it's brilliant, but am still finding pips a challenge. I'd love to get to grips with the TdM and I hope the CBD goes back on sale someday...

I heard The Hermit's Lamp had something in the works.

Almost all of my decks are either RWS or Thoth-based. I did buy one which fits in with the historical-style decks. I guess it isn't exactly a TdM, though it uses non-scenic pip cards; Renaissance Tarot by Williams. I've been thinking about diving into that end of the pool soon ...

That is wonderful to hear!! I inadvertently ended up harassing Ben-Dov's son not long after his passing, via a query to the old site. The son was very very generous in responding back... it sounds like settling Ben-Dov's estate had to happen before they could sell the old stock...

These days I'm loving my Noblet (Flornoy) and working through Jean Michel-David's fabulous book.

ETA I was disappointed with the most recent version of the Robledo TdM - felt too mass produced... anyone have a sense of what his Dodal will be like?

I placed an order for the CBD tarot literally 3 hours before the sad news broke on AT that YBD had passed away. I received a refund about three weeks later. I'd been contemplating getting it for weeks and finally decided to go for it :(

You're inspiring me to get my Flornoy Noblet out now, I've not used it much. Does the book help a lot?

I loved the new Robledo. Especially it being affordable.

I used almost only TdMs for a year now and don't really miss other decks. My fave is by far the Flornoy Dodal and then comes the Robledo. I love mort of them though except for some reason I just HATE the Grimaud. It is ugly! *shivers*

I do have a few books but haven't really studied any, I just go with the 'tell what you see' approach. It is amazing how much you can get from tiny details on the pips. I guess a solid grounding in tarot helps too :-p

Best way to remove the 'fear' or at least anxiety to use a TdM is to just dive in head first. Notebook and pencil and pull 3 cards a day and write away like you got paid by word.

Then read back and scratch out words until you are left with just a short sentence.

and ok, if i am gonna recommend a book it is Camelia Elias book.pure <3

Im curious, what did you find disappointing re: the recent Robledo Tdm? I dont have it, but was thinking of getting his Dodal

LOL, I find the Grimaud super ugly as well!!! What do you like about Camelia Elias book?

i do have the more recent Robledo TdM in the lidded box. It has the distressed look, and i LOVE it!

Just as buttery soft and gorgeous as the earlier editions, IMHO.  i don't think it has a mass produced feeling to it at all. i also have his Dodal, but one of

the earlier numbered editions. i LOVE Pablo's work.

I agree with the disappointment around the 2016 Robledo - it certainly felt mass produced to me. The card stock chipped easily - the card stock doesn't match up to that of the Flornoy decks or Yves Reynaud's historical decks. Also, if you live in the UK or Europe then the Robledo is not cheap to acquire either.

To those who like the 2016 Robledo I apologise but this deck gets a big fail from me.

My current favourite decks are the Flornoy Dodal and Noblet; the 2016 Pierre Madenie by Yves Reynaud; the Claude Burdel 1751 also by Reynaud; and the super coloured  8) Fournier TdM and Spanish Tarot.

Re: The 2016 Robledo TdM, admittedly, i haven't shuffled it much at this point....but i have had earlier

numbered editions, and i really don't see that much difference in the cardstock.

And it isn't that cheap to acquire here in the USA, either. It was USD Fifty plus once the shipping was paid.

i must be getting less picky in my old age. :P Although, i FEEL like i am much less patient and MORE picky.

i DO have the LE numbered Robledo Dodal, though...

i will take it out and try to compare the cardstock. xox

Hi Charlotte! My personal favorite Yves Reynaud deck is the Madenie! i don't have it anymore, but i really would like to replace the one i needed to sell quite a while back.

i also VERY much want  Both Flornoy decks--especially the Noblet, and preferably the 2007 edition.

and yes...i used to have those, too...but due to a $ necessary major deck purge, they had to be sold.

But i am hopeful that i will be able to replace them fairly soon. xox

If I had to choose between the Madenie and the Burdel, I'd go for the Madenie. In fact I did; I bought  a backup copy (No. 1499 out of 1500!). That's not to take anything away from the Burdel - it's a superb deck, love the brighter colours. However, the expressions on the Madenie are amazingly clear and the level of skill in the execution of the art is amongst the best I've ever seen in a historical tarot. I also plan to get Yves' Conver facsimile when it is released later this month - that may or may not become my favourite 'Yves' deck.

Oh that's a shame you had to do that MoonGypsy! I hope you get to replace them soon!

The Madenie is the one I was drawn to :)

I have a few Conver decks already and though Yves' version looks fabulous, I do feel really drawn to the Madenie. Hmmmmm!
