Tarotphelia Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 I tried the marselles.. back when there was a marseilles forum run by diana. I even brought a marseilles and tried to study it with the only marseilles book i could find. Christisn hemeticism journey into the tarot a study on 22 majors. Maybe you would do better without that sort of study . You like numerology - maybe the pips would work for you using that . But I imagine with so many other exciting decks to choose from it won't be high on your priority list .
Madrigal Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 Suddenly missing AT, and googled for Tarot forums. Forgot I was a member here 😂 I was just doing an inventory of all my TdMs and feeling the pull to them all over again. I’m looking at two diff books, Tarot on Earth by Tom Benjamin or the new Caitlin Matthews, Untold Tarot: The Lost Art of Reading Tarot de Marseille. Any recs for one over the other would be appreciated. TIA
tag Jorrit Posted October 14, 2018 Posted October 14, 2018 Yoav Ben Dov's Open Reading is a very good TdM book. I liked it a lot. Also, you should treat yourself to the Tarology documentary with Enrique Enriquez.

I think the way she reads Lenormand has influenced her approach to the Marseille decks. She talks about a few different approaches though and the book has a lot of depth. And, if I’m not mistaken I think I have your facsimile repro of the Dusserre Dodal, if I’m remembering your AT name correctly.

I didn't repro Dusserre's but made them by request by a fellow in Spain from scans he sent to me from the original book published in, I think, 1909. The gentleman sent me b/w scans from which I made a b/w deck. Then i received requests to make colorful ones, from Papus fans. So I made them. Later I found some Dusserre images online. I noticed that some of the figures that were unclothed in the b/w images were clothed in the Dusserre color versions. Odd. In the Papus images that I colored, the naked parts are still flesh colored rather than clothed. :) I also did a facsimile repro of the Dodal that's in my TheCartomancer store, if you google it. I can't provide a link because I am not allowed to by this forum. My newest repro, in case you are interested, is Etteilla's Oracle des Dames. That's a really cool deck. And its original size is bridge size! How cool is that?!

In the meantime a few pics.
tag Jorrit Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Yes, they are photogenic, aren't they? ;) And your artful arrangements for the photos are quite beautiful.

Tanawylfen Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 I'm a TdM lover and prefer pip decks in general because I find they allow the majors to stand out more in a spread. My first ever deck was the Fournier Marseille and I still love it to this day, even though I've acquired other decks since. I remember writing little keywords on the minors when I was just learning and then treated myself to a new copy when I felt I knew them enough. I now have a few marseille-themed decks and hope to acquire more. The last one I bought was the Mary Packard deck which I adore (the cards are HUGE butt I've just had to learn a new way of shuffling!) I also have the Spanish Tarot which is one of my all time faves, along with the Angel Marseille (though the minors in that deck diverge from the tradition somewhat.) My wish is for someone to publish the Jean-Baptiste Madinie (hint, hint Yves!) because I love the colour palette so much! (would make a wonderful winter deck IMO!) Another I'm keen to get a hold of is the Bounty Publishing Marseille (just labelled "The Tarot Deck") which I think is a Conver repro and which I think I'd trim the borders off. I also like the look of the Dusserre. I love the Heron too for the muted colours, and the Tarot Classic version of the Burdel for the psychedelic palette! Non-Marseille but related decks I own are the Vendeborre and the Epinal. Other similar decks I'd like to own are the Oswald Wirth, Dame Fortune's Wheel, Golden Visconti (also by Mary Packard) and the Ancient Italian by Lo Scarabeo (LOVE the Star and the Moon cards in that deck!) though I'm trying to stop my collection getting too big lol!
Guest D76 Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Me ! My everyday Tarot deck is TdM. Usually - Claude Burdel. But favourite is Francois Chosson.
