Grace Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Hello All! I'm going to be gifted tarot for my birthday (my husband knows me well) - and have been asked to choose a few from the Il Meneghello publishing house. I've decided to pick two of lesser value and one of higher - the two cheaper ones are Naibi Tarot by Giovanni Vacchetta, and the Minchiate Etruria. The question is now which to choose between the Sola Busca and Visconti Sforza. I'm torn!!!! What would you pick and why?
MuninnMissinHuginn Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 @Grace, I have the Sola Bosca. It is an odd deck and for me it has difficult vibe. I can not use it for regular readings, I have used it for the ISG exchanges and liked it for that. Hope that helps.
Grace Posted June 3, 2022 Author Posted June 3, 2022 Thanks for your input @MuninnMissinHuginn! It's funny how some decks just work more than others. And in my case, they come in and out of favour. For a long time I read almost exclusively with the Hermetic, which isn't one many would consider for reading so much as self reflection and learning. But it just vibed with me so much that it worked splendidly. And then I have other decks which I enjoy looking at, but have 'luke warm' feelings using for readings. It is what it is! It is hard to know what will work till you buy it - annoying for expensive decks!
RunningWild Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 I have the Sola Busca but I don't use it for readings. I bought it with the intention of reading up on the history and the characters displayed in it.
MuninnMissinHuginn Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 @Grace, If you are getting this deck from Lo Scarabeo, I can say it is impossible to riffle shuffle as the cards are quite thick and stiff. I can only set them down on the table and swish them around. Also the LWB is not helpful, in my opinion. As the Major Arcana does not follow the tradition tarot, the book, for me, does not really give much information on the symbolism nor the backgrounds of the people pictured on the cards. I love the art, it is an interesting deck. But….for reading, as you say we all have our own affinities.
Grace Posted June 3, 2022 Author Posted June 3, 2022 Well that is super interesting. More people that don't use the Sola Busca for readings! Something tells me I'll either end up loving it (like I did the Hermetic), or it will be an expensive deck that only gets 'looked at' for studying. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just not sure that is what I want right now - I generally like to USE my decks. Good to know about the Lo Scarabeo Sola Busca deck. If I decide to go with the Visconti Sforza, I would eventually buy the Sola Busca through another publisher and I see the Lo Scarabeo deck everywhere.
