VGimlet Posted December 29, 2017 Author Posted December 29, 2017 New decks for the New Year. Hoping for a very positive 2018 for all! I'll be using the Trick or Tarot deck for my first deck of 2018. I love Halloween, and this is a cute and kind of quirky deck - I wouldn't mind if 2018 followed the same path - quirky is okay with me. 8)
Page of Ghosts Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 I hope 2018 will be good to us all too! Hmm... what do I feel like using to usher in the new year? Maybe the Sasuraibito only? Or pair it up with the Goddess Tarot? For now I'll sign up with both, maybe I'll change my mind later this weekend. Page of Ghosts - Sasuraibito Tarot & The Goddess Tarot
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 For the New Year, I'm going to be using this trifecta: EmpyreanKnight - Smith-Waite Centennial + Thoth + Renaissance
jema Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 I picked out like 58 decks (good with a few extra) put them in the random list maker and now I am sorted for all 2018 :-D First out is 1001 nights tarot I might add an oracle to it - we will see.
Bodhiseed Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 I'm in with the Osho Zen Tarot paired with the A’HA Oracle. Thanks VG! Hope all the DoWers have a Happy New Year!
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 jema, I had that deck out twice, but decided to go with my big Greenie Thoth to ring in the new year. We've spent the afternoon in our 5th wheel while we bug bombed the house. It just doesn't get any better or more exciting than that :) All the best of the new year to all of you, thank you VG
Trogon Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 I'm hoping that with the New Year, some of the mundane stresses in my life will be easing a bit. The refinance of the house should be done in the next couple of days, which means we can get a newer car before the old one completely dies. This will hopefully mean that I can stop sinking money into trying to fix the old one. Anyway, I'll be ending 2017, and starting 2018 with a deck I've not used before; The Basic Tarot. Trogon - The Basic Tarot
Trogon Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 With the New Year, I figured I'd start off with a deck I haven't used yet. I had picked up the Basic Tarot a year or so back and never did work with it. I had found it at a used-book store, but it is in excellent condition. The deck is published by AG Müller and the card titles are in German and English, with the German titles of the Majors also appearing in differing fonts in the border. The cards are large; 140mm X 94mm (5 1/2 in X 3 3/4 in), which is, I think, about the same size as my large AGM Thoth deck. It is a Thoth-based deck, but with a very modernistic art style with vivid colors and surrealistic images (especially in the Majors). The margins are quite wide and are done in tans and browns, so they are not (exactly) plain borders. The Minors are minimally illustrated, relying primarily on vivid colors and almost subliminal images. For example, the 3 of Wands (pictured) is all in reds with a background image that could be a tree, rose, or other such thing. The cards have a silky feel to them and are easy to shuffle as they don't stick to one another. Though the large size may be an issue for some folks. The deck has an interesting, almost woody smell without much of the astringent smell of some decks, but this could be because of it being an older deck. I like the feel of the deck and it seems that it should really spark my intuition. You can see some other images of the cards at the Tarot Garden site here; http://tarotgarden.mybigcommerce.com/basic-tarot/
CharlotteK Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 Howdy. I'd like to get back on board please with DoTW. I'll be using Tabula Mundi this week :) Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
jema Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 1001 night is really beautiful and since they are illustrations - they tell a story. I like that a lot. I think I might get a bit out of whack with the group though cause for me it feels more natural to do the switch on sunday night. No biggie though. Trogon, I like the look of that tarot deck!
Page of Ghosts Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 The decks I chose have been out of comission since I've used them for the Sacred Days of Yule spread and they have several cards missing that I'm using for that spread, building it up over time. Now that the new year dawns I will hopefully finish writing up that spread so I can use my cards tomorrow :o
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 With the Centennial, a few hours ago I performed a full 42-card Months of the Year spread with 3 Guiding Cards for 2018. I made so many shuffles and cuts for that one. I also conducted a 3-Card weekly reading so I was bushed. My Thoth was very succinct - 2 cards for 2 important questions. For my first question especially, the card I drew was so apropos that I felt that I had to withdraw all the succeeding questions I had for the matter since there was nothing left to be discussed. I'm beginning to believe in magick now.
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 I'm in with the Osho Zen Tarot paired with the A’HA Oracle. Thanks VG! Hope all the DoWers have a Happy New Year! I shall be using the Osho Zen a lot more this year. I feel that it would be so apt. Happy New Year to you too, Bodhiseed. :)

It's been on my sell/trade list for ages but I was thinking I may give it a serious chance. I removed the Osho card ages ago as it gave me the creeps. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Yeah, I've read the weirdest things about him too. I just try to separate the product from the one who created/inspired it tho that takes some getting used to.
CharlotteK Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 I decided that I would draw a card a day from Tabula Mundi and sit it alongside the Thoth equivalent for comparison. Yesterday I drew Four of Disks - Power. Consulting Book M, some connections with the Sun, the Devil, Capricorn. Wealth brings power (or illusion of it) and there is a theme here of guarding wealth. There are symbols of authority in the disks around the Green Man head. Thoth shows a fortress with towers featuring elemental symbols. Well. I did admit yesterday to myself and my husband that I am somewhat of a hoarder and protective of my 'stuff'. I shared with him my plan to have a massive clear out for charity, which feels like a good thing to do. Today I drew Six of Cups - Pleasure. There is some really great symbolism in this card. Again, a strong association with the sun, which glints on the water. The cups for the downward triangle elemental symbol for water. The eagle soars high above the water and appears to be flying into the 12 pointed star (reminiscent of the twelve petalled lotus flower of the heart chakra). The Thoth shows the 6 cups filled by golden lotus flowers. I like the TM card much better. Today is a family day. It's the start of a new year, we are together and we are happy. Madame Squee Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Thank you for the thread, VG, and Happy New Year Everyone! I've finally settled on the Pagan Otherworlds Tarot and the Golden Lenormand Oracle to begin this year. The Pagan Otherworlds arrived early December, and I've only flipped through the cards a couple of times. The Golden Lenormand is still sealed. So, this will be an exciting week!
Bodhiseed Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 I have also been thinking about digging the Osho Zen out again lately. It's been on my sell/trade list for ages but I was thinking I may give it a serious chance. I removed the Osho card ages ago as it gave me the creeps. I removed the Osho card as soon as I got the deck. ;D There are times when I read the cards as I see them, rather than following the book. My draw today was a perfect example (Four of Swords). The book suggested it was about indecision and procrastination, but it seemed more of a 'rest now, play later' card for me.
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 I've finally settled on the Pagan Otherworlds Tarot and the Golden Lenormand Oracle to begin this year. The Pagan Otherworlds arrived early December, and I've only flipped through the cards a couple of times. The Golden Lenormand is still sealed. So, this will be an exciting week! This is one of the more glorious combinations I've seen in the DOTW. I also have both and like you, my Golden Lenormand is also sealed. I'd like to try this pairing myself next time.
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Btw, does anybody have the Tarot in the Spirit of Zen, another companion book for the Osho Zen? I was curious about it before, but the reviews I've read weren't encouraging.
Bodhiseed Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Btw, does anybody have the Tarot in the Spirit of Zen, another companion book for the Osho Zen? I was curious about it before, but the reviews I've read weren't encouraging. From what I could tell from the description, the book has punch-out cards of the Osho Zen major arcana with pretty much the same information as the companion book that comes with the set.

Thank you, EmpyreanK. I can't take credit, though. The combining of these two was luck. I actually hope I have time to unseal my Golden Lenormand before the week is out -- the Pagan Otherworlds has already grabbed all my attention. Up until today, I thought that I would like this deck because the art is beautiful. However, it turns out that I like it, because it's fun to read. The beautiful art flows back and forth between cards, creating fascinating patterns and interactions amongst its symbols and figures, which I find very satisfying to examine and interpret. I can almost guarantee that I will be continuing with Pagan Otherworlds and the Golden Lenormand next week, too. (We can be twins! :-* )
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 I'm thinking of performing this pairing with the onset of spring. The Renaissance Tarot is pencilled in my dance card for the next 2 weeks. :)

As I was surfing the net, I got to check out the Google Books sample pages for the book and while the text has differences with the companion book, it doesn't add a lot of additional info. I should have done this before!
