The colors of The Magician's garments also correspond to the flowers; Red for passion, strength, etc. and white for the purity and other things you'd mentioned (with the lilies). It is noteworthy that the red robe symbolizing his earthly passion and strength partly covers/conceals the white of the spirit/purity/feminine - indicating that The Magician is all about the use of his strength for earthly, rather than spiritual matters.

I know this is an old thread, but I am new here so it’s new to me. I am just learning and this focus on all the minute symbols seems like a good way to learn. When I looked at the table I thought “laying it all on the table“. When you lay it on the table you or someone else becomes aware of what’s possible or what’s at hand or what the situation involves. So this could be awareness or consciousness. So I went and looked up the High priestess because I know she seems to be the one who thinks it over but I was reminded that she’s the one who uses her unconscious, her intuition. So with that in mind it would seem the magician was more the conscious the Yang energy maybe to the High Priestess’s Yin. Also I wondered about some of the interpretations I have read that make the magician a man of action. At least initially learning the symbolism, The magician seems to be more of a mental understanding that comes before we take action.

I'm going to answer my own question as practice. Later, I had a 'duh!' moment as I realized the Magician IS an action. He is combining above with below, joining divine to earth, using the mind to fashion nature into the very implements the original exercise ( the meaning of the table) was about. Maybe the table says that any of the tools we don't already possess, we have the power and talent to create. Just another reminder that the cards, though not complicated, can always be read on so many different levels depending, I guess on their position and the question asked.
