EmpyreanKnight Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Coming this Spring 2018 from US Games - the Zillich Tarot in a Tin. It's a Thoth-based deck that features intriguing watercolor artwork from Christine Zillich. The initial printer proofs from USG made its Thoth inspiration more evident, with the corresponding Hebrew letter displayed for the Majors and the Thoth keyword shown for the minors. Sadly, no astrological correspondence symbols are shown. The USG release will come with English text, as shown below. The imagery is different from the Thoth since the minors display full images and not pips. The majors and courts also diverge from the Thoth. I must say tho - the watercolor art in the cards is simply exquisite. I definitely want it. Coming in a Tin box, the deck would most probably be pocket-sized.. To see the art in most of the cards, check out the artist's Facebook page.
gregory Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 I like the look of that. Where was it published before ?
FLizarraga Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 That's a gorgeous deck. It reminds me a little of the Tarot of the Spirit. I would rather have the full-size edition, too.
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 2, 2018 Author Posted January 2, 2018 I like the look of that. Where was it published before ? My apologies, gregory, I jumped the gun on that one. In mid-2016, the creator said that the art for the 85 cards has been finished, she's only working on the booklet then, and she was also taking about the publishing and the printing process. Almost a year later, she said that USG snapped the deck up, so I surmised that the cards must have been successfully published in the interim. The physical cards with German titles shown in the first pic may have been mock-ups.
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 2, 2018 Author Posted January 2, 2018 That's a gorgeous deck. It reminds me a little of the Tarot of the Spirit. I would rather have the full-size edition, too. That was my impression too, albeit it looks more like its lighter, airier sister. I hope it would eventually be available in a regular size too, FLiz. Btw, here is a promotion for USG's early 2018 offerings that includes the Zillich:
EmpyreanKnight Posted February 10, 2018 Author Posted February 10, 2018 This is now available for pre-order in the US Games site. It is bound to be released this March 2018: From its USG page: German watercolor artist Christine Zillich explores mythological, astrological and kabbalistic symbolism in this intriguing Thoth-style tarot deck. Includes 78 cards and 60-page booklet written by Johan von Kirschner. Size: Tin 2.75” x 4.125”; 78 Cards 2.30” x 3.70”
Flaxen Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 This looks beautiful - I quite like the decks in a tin but hope it will be available in a larger size too.
Quester Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 I love the colors!! Another deck to add to the list!!!
FLizarraga Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 This one and the Maria Celia have me fretting for the first time in AGES... I can't wait! :)
EmpyreanKnight Posted February 11, 2018 Author Posted February 11, 2018 IKR? I'm going to get both of those decks too, FLiz. <3
Rose Lalonde Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 ...and I've pre-ordered. Enablers. :P EK, thanks for the heads up! (Btw, I can't see your images for some reason, but thanks for the facebook link.) (Amazon UK says May 15, while Amazon US says May 24. I ordered from Book Depository, a lot cheaper for me with free international shipping. They said it was coming from the UK and shipping in 2 days, but we'll see how it goes...)
Flaxen Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 Mine arrived today. Really pleased I got this one. The watercolour art is beautiful, it is influenced by the Thoth and the booklet is very well written. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rose Lalonde Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Received mine today. Very summery feel. Warm and light. One odd little thing I noticed: XX is called Justice. Card XI is Adjustment, Thoth equivalent of RWS Justice, so nothing surprising there. I expected XX to either be The Aeon or Judgement. The image and lwb description make me think of Judgement. I'm guessing it's probably not a typo, since XX is also titled Justice in the lwb. I don't really mind for myself; it's got all the hallmarks of Judgement. But I'm curious about her decision. (I should probably check facebook etc. to see if she commented on it, but if anyone happens to know, I'd be interested...) :)
Saturn Celeste Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Ok you guys have convinced me, I just ordered it. I'll get it Friday. Of course I just updated my profile list, looks like I'll have to do that again! ^-^
Saturn Celeste Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 my first deck in a tin! it is lovely! The deck is outstanding! It is also one of the most abstract decks aside from the Wild Unknown and Linestrider that I own but I love it. You might be seeing the 2 of Pentacles and the Ace of Swords in the 56 Favorite thread! I could only find a pic of the 2 of Discs. The cards are easy to shuffle even for their size. I'm not one for playing card size but this deck is totally worth it and it was only $16.22 including tax. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1572819243/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Page of Ghosts Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 The artwork is lovely! I'm a big fan of watercolours. Will put it on my list for that day when I'm out of my tarot rut and in the mood for something new ;)
Rose Lalonde Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Here's a pic of XX 'Justice' I was talking about above, in case anyone wants to see. (XI Adjustment is already the equivalent of Justice, and XX looks like Judgement's horn to me.)
DanielJUK Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I wanted to ask if you can read this deck if you don't know Thoth style reading, could you read it as a regular deck without those rules and that system?
Rose Lalonde Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 I wanted to ask if you can read this deck if you don't know Thoth style reading, could you read it as a regular deck without those rules and that system? Yes, I'd say it would work fine as long as it won't bother you that the keywords and imagery on a few minors differ from RWS, if that's your regular... like 7 of Disks 'Failure', 8 of Cups 'Indolence', and to a lesser extent, 6 of Swords 'Science' (Technically, I feel like you can read with any deck however you prefer, but I get what you're asking! Some decks are more obvious about illustrating their underpinnings than others. Zillich would probably be one of the easier Thoth inspired decks to read without referring to the Thoth, because of the watercolor art.)
FLizarraga Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 I have been taking a sort of involuntary sabbatical from the forums and even Tarot itself. However, I'm happy to say that this thread has enabled me to finally order this deck --first one I order in centuries! Can't wait to see it up close.

I agree that you could read this without being fully versed in all things Thoth. It is a lovely deck - I’m going to be using it all this month. I love that it’s in a tin as it means I can throw it in my bag without worry. [emoji3]
