For me it was Steampunk Art Nouveau i thought i wouldn't like it at first sight but then i stumbled on a full flip through in which i got to see the deck and i ended up really liking it by surprise i got wowed instead 😅

I doubt I'm alone on this with the Deviant Moon. I went from "yuck" to "huh" to "maybe" to "interesting" to absolute love.

(Slightly off topic, honourable mentions to three decks I didn't think I'd like and in fact still do not like but they read so annoyingly well I can't bring myself to let go of them 😄: Tarot Illuminati, the Gilded Tarot and the flipping Doreen Virtue Fairy Tarot.)

It would have to be the Heaven and Earth Tarot. At first I thought it was too ethereal, too unremittingly light. Some cards also seem so life-like. I and photorealistic decks: the twain never doth meet.

Now I'm just absolutely besotted.

I never did come round to Deviant Moon ... but I bought Valenza's Della Luna deck and I'm now a total Valenza fan.

I got a Tarot llluminati at a give-away ... and ended up giving it away. The disembodied arms on the Aces ... my Virgo Moon was, like, UGH! Bad Photoshop technique every time I got an Ace. Plus it made me think of Jeffrey Dahmer chopping someone's arm off.

For me it was the Haindl Tarot. It's not so much a case of thinking that I wouldn't like it, I just believed that it was so dense and multi-layered that I would have to build my knowledge a lot more first before attempting to read with it. But I was gifted a copy and have read with it a couple of times, and although I have to sit with it and let it stew for a time, the messages are very meaningful.

I found exactly the same with the Haindl. I knew I'd like it but was I lacking the knowledge I'd need to get much out of it? Surprisingly, had no trouble whatsoever. There's something powerful about that deck and the books are excellent too. Must pull it out for DOTW soon.

I totally agree. Visceral is the best way I can describe the way I reacted to the cards, it's fascinating.

I haven't researched the books, I'll take a look now and they'll likely go on my shopping list!

You are not alone . It wasn't my style but somehow I ended up buying it. It soon became one of my favorites. I have an immense admiration for P.Valenza and his art 'cause if someone through his art makes me like something that I otherwise don't that's a big accomplishment!

I have to admit I have had several decks that hit me that way, the Cosmic Tribe was one that really surprised me.  I bought the deck because it had 3 Lovers cards (male/female, male/male, and female/female) so I got if for collection purposes.  I am not a huge fan of photo collages or digital art, not fond of in your face nudity in my decks either, but the elemental influences of the deck, and the way that nudity was actually used as a design element, not to mention the vivid colors just instantly connected with me.  I never expected that in a million years.  I have loved the deck ever since.
